Javier Bardem would be a good choice. Well, he's one of those actors that should just be in every movie ever made anyway...

I am so sad to see Oldman leave... However couldn't care less about the girl. Bardem would be a great choice for the villain. Since the movie will be shot in Europe, maybe they'll cast an European actress as the gf? I see a Dianne Kruger or Famke Jansen. Famke is slightly older than G but so stunning, a wonderful example that beauty comes in all ages, not just in very young girls However since Gerry is European, they may go with an US actress... Not that it really matters since they all play Americans. PS, Kate Winslet or Rachel Weisz would be good choices for the gf too....

I dunno why Gerry's staying, argh. Probably because he can have a say in things. Damn it doesn't he know he does better w/ a SPEAKING PART!! Of course in gamer and phantom he wasn't saying much and let emotions come thru. Gerry does better w/ less imput because he is ALL OVER the place mentally.

Actually I go to see the movies for Gerry... doesn't matter who else is in it because I don't see them anyway. Actually, he could do a one-man show and I wouldn't mind.

I actually kind of like the idea of Gerry not speaking in this movie. Don't get me wrong, I love his voice, but if he doesn't have to talk, he won't have to worry about the US accent and he can really concentrate on his acting. He is so good at bringing emotions across with his facial expressions. I think some of his best performances are the ones he didn't have to worry about doing a certain accent right.

I haven't read the script but it sounds like Gerry says hardly anything. Is the character European? Is the girlfriend in it much?

I think since it's supposed to take place in Detroit they are supposed to be Americans. I've read in an article that Gerrys character only has one line. But who knows, it may change with script revisions.

so true. not to get off track but what article referring to re: 'one line'? just curious. if this is the case then it may not be 'a gerry film' perhaps just a cameo appearance?

I don't think he'd be at Cannes doing PR for Motor City if he isn't the star. My understanding is he's the lead character looking for his nemisis (was Gary Oldman). Probably more like GAMER where it was all action and not a lot of talking. But if he has girlfriend in it...is he not talking to her?

Thanks Shellie! www.deadline.com/2012/04/emmettfurla-films-funding-silver-pictures-drama-motor-city-with-gerard-butler/EXCLUSIVE: Emmett/Furla Films has stepped up and committed to fully finance Motor City, the Albert Hughes-directed action film that stars Gerard Butler as a man who is double crossed, and seeks revenge on the guy who put him behind bars and took his woman. Gary Oldman is aboard to play the villain, and Amber Heard the woman. The film, which has a budget north of $40 million, is now set to begin production in September through EFF and Silver Pictures. Joel Silver and Andrew Rona are producing for Silver Pictures, while Randall Emmett and George Furla board as producers for EFF, along with their funding partners, Envision Entertainment’s Stepan Martirosyan and Remington Chase. Brandon Grimes is coproducer. Warner Bros will distribute domestically, while foreign rights will be sold at Cannes by Mark Damon and Foresight. Hi, Ladies. I think this early deadline.com article man answer a couple of recent questions. "Motor City, the Albert Hughes-directed action film that stars Gerard Butler as a man who is double crossed, and seeks revenge on the guy who put him behind bars and took his woman." We can hope he gets the woman back and engages in a steamy love scene. No words necessary!

The article I am thinking of hasn't been posted here. It was the same article that talked about the lead character being scared, bald with tattoos. It actually contained a lot of spoilers so maybe that's why it wasn't posted but there was a link in the cbox. I tried to find it on imdb but the most promising link was broken. I think it was a script review.
I thought long and hard which actor is grande enough to replace Gary Oldman and I finally came up with another fantastic and strangely underrated actor who I would LOVE to see as a villain in a Gerry movie... Drum roll.... Alan Rickman! Another actor that should be in every movie. Love him, he is so fascinating... And that voice....

Ok, I found the article. It is posted on page 19 in the Movie Rumor Thread. But be warned, it contains a lot of spoilers, pretty much gives most of the story away.
