Having seen other Muccino's film, I thought that the feelings were deeper and with a surprise ending not with a happy ending. This film is not the version of Muccino as he said himself. Removing some dramatic scenes that would have made me understand many other things, have ruined it. You can watch, but I was expecting something better. I love Gerard with long blond hair maybe because when I met him it was like in the movie

They did change the ending of Playing for Keeps when they did the re-shoot last Spring after they pulled it's Spring release. The reason they had to do that was that the movie did not screen well and audiences where unhappy with the tone and ending of the film. Gerry did not get back together with his wife in the original version she marries her boyfriend and there wasn't much humor in the film. Seems like the audiences were REALLY upset. I wish they included an alternate ending on the DVD like they did for The Ugly Truth, but they didn't. Here is an up-date on the Box Office to Playing for Keeps and some DVD sale numbers: Theatrical Performance Domestic Box Office $13,103,272 International Box Office$14,702,360 Worldwide Box Office $27,805,632 Home Market Performance Domestic DVD Sales: $2,170,318 www.the-numbers.com/movie/Playing-the-Field

For me had to leave the original version without changing anything. That was the real Muccino's movie and would also have had more success as they had their time in Seven Pounds and The Pursuit of Happiness. To me this version with a happy ending and even exhilarating not like it, but it's just my opinion ... and that of Muccino. In all of the Italian explained what they did to his movie and has repeatedly said that they did cut some scenes very important: movie 'dramatic', of deep emotions and everyday problems, it has become a family movie.

I agree, they should have left the film as it was since I don't think it could have done much worse at the Box office even though the screening audiences scored it low. I can't help but thinking though that sometimes a script works on paper but not on the screen. Look at Brad Pitt's Zombie movie War Z, they went back and re-shot 40 minutes of that film and changed it from a R rated film to PG-13 movie, makes you wonder if they changed it to have wider appeal but it worked for them. Maybe that is what they wanted to do with Playing for Keeps, they wanted to appeal to a wider audience but the structure of what they had already filmed and what they changed did the opposite it made it lose it appeal.

After the first screening they had to shoot new scenes and is very evident in the film because in some shots Gerard has dark hair while in others he is blond. They wanted to make it 'better' instead they went wrong ... for me. The finish is obvious: it was better if she married her boyfriend. You also lose the father-son relationship that is not as intense as it should be. I thought it was better, but I was wrong.

I think you are right. they did make a mess of the film by trying to change the ending. Never understand when things like this happen. On the bright side, Gerry was very endearing in the film with his son, which is its only strong part.

As you said they made a mess and, if they had left as it was, it could be a really good movie... patience...
