I think part of the problem with PFK in the UK is that it got such rotten reviews in the US. And one of the reasons it got rotten reviews in the US is because there was no press screening ahead of time. Critics don't like that. Word does travel. Gerry was really hung out to dry in the UK, doing all the press himself and getting busted over it. I really don't know how he kept positive while promoting it. I'm really happy to hear that it's doing so well in Italy!

Out of curiousity has it made its money back as it seems to be struggling to get above £600.000 here in the UK.
USA $13 million aprox UK $964,000 aprox Italy $2.6 million and rising

Latest UK box office.
Out of the top 15 and it must have earned less than £39.138 (just short of $63,000) although I suspect it completed its theater run.
To the US posters do you think changing the sport from baseball to soccer/football was a mistake or wise decision. Also do you regard placing 6th in the US was a indication of it finding an audience or a flop. Been left perplexed at how the USA box office played out in the end.

I really wonder about the result of the box office in UK. I means this movie isn't a masterpiece but it's not horrible as many journalists have wrote. In think that something in the promotion it was wrong. I really don't understand why they didn't invited the press to the screenings.

Audrey the UK did do press screenings although why none in the US is a puzzle.
I think the UK press campaign was a mess. I think that this really needs addressing.
I think The Bounty Hunter was a real turning point. Utter tabloid tosh followed Gerard with the JA fiasco and I think by the end the public had a negative thought process of him being a sell out and all Holly weird.
Since then he has not has a hit film in the UK; MGP and Coriolanus both just scraped into the top 10 and did more business than PFK. CM was not even released.
I notice his magazine interviews in the UK are in the tabloid end which are all Butler the hunk and to be honest that has undermined Gerard the talented actor.
I can also feel the panic in my soul as Movie 43 is next up and to be honest what are the odds that out of all the cast members Gerard gets hammered by the critics.
Gerard does not fit their agenda. Now you argue critics are snobs but here in the UK they are powerful and although I do not think I have seen a critic make a movie I have seen them destroy a movie. Up until Bounty Hunter Gerard was critic proof and box office gold. That has gone.
Add to that his disdain of art house, which is for want of a better phrase a life belt where actors like Colin Firth got noticed for A Single Man; or Fassbender for Shame and Hunger, and McConaughey for Killer Joe and you do wonder if Gerard has painted himself in a corner.
I wish I could explain how much damage has been done by p****** off Mark Kermode. No one bares grudges like him. If you want to get a taste of how vitriolic MK is go on youtube and try and look up his video for his Cannes review of Pirates of the Caribbean 3 (a full on 15 minute rant).
I hope that Gerard still has that innate fire in the belly need to act because he needs that more than ever.

Box Office Mojo: PFK $12,957,535 domestic; $14,768,758 foreign = $27,726,293. Foreign figures are not up to date.

I thought the PFK marketing was way off for the U.S. I don't know if they could have saved the movie when they had already slotted it to come out Dec 7th giving it only 2 weeks to make big bucks or kick it out of the theaters for all the holiday movies. While Gerry was explaining the heart of the movie was the growth of his character and relationship with his son, the ads were trying to make it out to be a romcom. This movie was never given a chance because of the date they released it. Perhaps waiting until January would have helped it. But the UK is proving that it didn't help it much.
Movie 43 isn't even being marketed in the U.S. They aren't expecting it to be a big movie in the theaters. Are their ads for it overseas? It think marketing depends on the internet more than anything these days.
CM was marketed well but it wasn't what the public were looking for and we had Hurricane Sandy and the election going on in the U.S. That movie was a good one in my eyes but it's not for the younger crowd who are the main movie goers in the U.S.

That is disappointing. It can't even open as a normal run movie? That is too bad. I am sorry you don't expect to see it on a large screen. It certainly deserves to be given a chance.
