sorry - i thought we had a thread to post what movies we'd like to see gerry star in? can't find it so, for lack of a better place. but, gerry's recent tsirt gave me an idea....columbia university has set up a 'think tank' 'studio X' for 'global design & connectedness for web' based in rio dejaneiro, nyc, moscow, beijing, mumbai and nairobi...wouldn't be interesting to set a drama action - could be global governmental/ corporate sci-fy espionage...

I saw where someone posted about tv, I think that would be a great idea. I also like it if he did an over the top big budgeted blockbuster along (accidently put slong ) the lines of XMen and Avengers. I mean if Hugh Jackman, Michael Fassbender etc can do it. then Gerry can do it. Of course Michael Fassbender did full frontal in Shame, Gerry likes to drop trou and it was about a sex addict (of course that may be too close to home). If Bruce Willis can show full frontal then Gerry should have no problem. Then all doubt (like the should be any ) Something dark and suspenseful like a thriller. He wants to show range, that would do it.

if i could choose id love for him to do a movie or better all movies that are about to be made by alejandro gonzález inarritu!!! one of my fav directors evar..id like him to play a character where complexity, flaws, weakness and vulnerability beneath the layers get exposed. i think he could do excellent with that type of story's!!! but generally with every good movie i see i wish for Gerry to play the lead...

Hey Everybody! Wonder what happened to "A Hanging Tale?" Since he supposedly has/had the rights to a series about the Pinkerton Detective Agency, one day while I was writing up something, listening to music, and barely watching tv at the same time (yeah...not my "greenest" day, I admit), a show came on that gave me an idea (the bold parts = crazy coincidences): It's about TOM HORN. Born in SCOTLAND County, Memphis, TN in 1860, he was an army scout, quater master, interpreter, rodeo star, silver miner, and, yes, a Pinkerton detective, among other things, before becoming an outsider/hired gun in gentrifying/modernizing Cheyenne, WY. At over 6 feet tall, the intimidating, yet intriguing bachelor loomed head-and-shoulders above, physically, and as far away as possible, emotionally, from most. A full-time wanderer and part-time drunken braggart, he lived by the gun, blabbed by the pint, and died by the rope (a day before his NOVEMBER BDAY, at age 43). The very skill, drive, and boastfulness that made him successful eventually made him a suspect, when a 14 year old boy is shot dead in a probable case of mistaken identity and Horn is accused of the ambush. While researching this, I found out that this was one of STEVE MCQUEEN'S final roles, and while that movie has it's moments, it also has it's faults/inconsistencies (there were several directors and writers). Still, with the success of "True Grit," I think this (my!?!) kind of a re-make would not be the typical HW fare... I'm about 40 pages into my script (your average script is at least 90), and am actually enjoying the process more than I thought I would (my first run at a western). Imagining him in the lead does make the task A LOT less taxing, though. I would LOVE to know what do you guys think! Please be kind. I bruise easily. If you can't be good, at least be safe.

Sorry, about that temporary sleep deprivation It's crazy, I thought it would be more of a chore, but I'm actually kinda excited about this as well. Big country,* cattle wrangling/rustling, chases/shootouts, and him in the middle of the intensity and action, hat cocked, high in the saddle, gun belt slung low...I'm kinda loving the movie that's playing in my mind, and I hope I can translate it well enough for others to enjoy someday (soon). (*I don't know how familiar our younger, non-American friends might be with the phrase in relation to American cinema/westerns, but "big country" = wide, sprawling, open land) Back to it (45 pages down, 45+ to go )

Hi, and thanks for your "+1/like" vote My mom is a HUGE fan (Gene Autry is her fave), so I was familiar with it, in a VERY broad sense. Now that I am doing the leg work, renting/watching old ones, checking out old series like "Rawhide," "Big Valley," etc., I *think* I am getting more detailed lessons in the subtleties of actually creating, not just watching. And they run from awesome to awful, as all movies/series do. I like to learn new things, so I'm loving reviewing the "spaghetti" westerns right now, like "Fist Full of Dollars" with Eastwood. Off-shoot of this type of movie - Kurosawa's samurai films ("Fist Full..." is a remake of his "Man with No Name/Yojimbo" series) are also helpful and enjoyable . McQueen's "Tom Horn" is a bit heart-wrenching. You can see he was struggling physically (and creatively, it had a lot of personnel changes), and for some that added some depth to his performance. The faults are not blaring if you go in not knowing the full details (Horn's actual appearance, names of important players, etc), but the inconsistencies in storyline itself are sort of apparent. Have a good weekend, all!

I'd love for Gerry to do a western. He pretty much has done every other genre, but no western, yet. I was excited about The Hanging Tale, too bad it fell through....

fifi posted a link to the recent 'excalibur' youtube interview (say, wait a minute, wouldnt that be interesting for G...an olden day version of arthurian legend....hmmmmm )) meanwhile, here's an excerpt from the amazon.com reference to the book ,"Shantaram" gerry is presently reading, "It took me a long time and most of the world to learn what I know about love and fate and the choices we make, but the heart of it came to me in an instant, while I was chained to a wall and being tortured." So begins this epic, mesmerizing first novel set in the underworld of contemporary Bombay. Shantaram is narrated by Lin, an escaped convict with a false passport who flees maximum security prison in Australia for the teeming streets of a city where he can disappear. Accompanied by his guide and faithful friend, Prabaker, the two enter Bombay's hidden society of beggars and gangsters, prostitutes and holy men, soldiers and actors, and Indians and exiles from other countries, who seek in this remarkable place what they cannot find elsewhere. As a hunted man without a home, family, or identity, Lin searches for love and meaning while running a clinic in one of the city's poorest slums, and serving his apprenticeship in the dark arts of the Bombay mafia. The search leads him to war, prison torture, murder, and a series of enigmatic and bloody betrayals. The keys to unlock the mysteries and intrigues that bind Lin are held by two people. The first is Khader Khan: mafia godfather, criminal-philosopher-saint, and mentor to Lin in the underworld of the Golden City. The second is Karla: elusive, dangerous, and beautiful, whose passions are driven by secrets that torment her and yet give her a terrible power. Burning slums and five-star hotels, romantic love and prison agonies, criminal wars and Bollywood films, spiritual gurus and mujaheddin guerrillas---this huge novel has the world of human experience in its reach, and a passionate love for India at its heart. Based on the life of the author, it is by any measure the debut of an extraordinary voice in literature." THIS would be a fanastic movie. gotta have great script, director and producer. could be awesome debut for gerry & magdalina to film together. hmmmm....i can see it now. what about tarsem singh or ang lee directing...alan/gerry produce......
