Thought I would bring these pictures forward and add a couple more. The first one is the original pic of Gerry on the cover from the website without the blasted barcode covering his lovely foot. This one is the entrance to The Butler's Lair:

I flipped through it today, plus the Men's Health magazine - can you say sizzling hot???
The pic with him reclining in the armchair (not the cover), with those dreamy eyes.....I had to fan myself! A lot of the details are my style, love the columns, grand mirrors, chandeliers ancient looking decor (I am Greek!), rustic - for if I had millions, but that entrance shot looks like you're entering a lounge/club! There's a place here in TO called Easy on the Fifth and it reminds me of that.....though I haven't been there in years. Gerry can have some wild partaaaays!
Sigh.....

Now I have not had a chance to read the article about how this concept came to fruition but I had seen the work in progress photos at the designer's site and I did not like the hardwood floor, I thought it was too dark for my tastes, it looks like a dark walnut so it reminded me of English castle or a Bavarian chalet......I prefer the medium tones of hardwood floors, not light, not dark, but something warm, in between, and that certainly works better with a Tuscan kind of feeling, which many of the other features seemed to be aiming for, not that I have hardwood at the moment but if I did... either the way the lighting is set up, whether the loft lighting or the AD lighting or both, or they lightened up the stain since the original WIP pictures were taken or the original pictures were not a good depiction of the colour because that warm colour of hardwood makes all the difference - like a 200 per cent improvement, makes it much warmer and cozier, less lair like, so kind of Gerard to take my taste into consideration, LOL.
Just kidding - I am guessing the original hardwood was dark when the loft was bought from its previous owner, like the island cabinet in the kitchen actually, which it looks like they left it it the same or used maybe old wood that was removed, didn't they make the upper cabinets from wood that was removed elsewhere? perhaps the hardwood where ceramic tile was laid. The warmer colour of the hardwood, the trim and the ceiling beams is perfect, either new hardwood was laid or they restained the old wood after those original photos were taken, the windows are great - large windows are the coolest and when you are in a penthouse you don't have to worry about too many nosy neighbours......
My original impression had been this is POTO's lair and I was not sure I liked it. Even if the Phantom comes with. Now to me it says Tuscan villa or even mansion, warm and cozy yet elegant, molto bene. Bravo.

This whole thing got me thinking about that other thread where we saw his house in Hollywood Hills. I'd love to see the inside of that one. How many square feet was that mansion anyway?
According to the article, the NY loft is where he spends the most time. Then he also has a flat in London.
Also, there was one very big important thing missing from the whole AD spread - LOLITA! Surely, they could have put her in one of the shots.

If you look really closely at the bottom photo, you can see a picture of Lolita. I know it's not the same thing, but it's something. canadia: if The Phantom came with this lair, I wouldn't be paying much attention to the surrondings.

I have a spider plant too, I feel so connected with him now...LOL!

I'm with you, I love the way this loft is decorated. I think the placement of the two different chandeliers is odd, but hey it works. Give a elegance to a rustic design. Almost like the opposite sides of a color wheel.

I love his style. I've mentioned that my kitchen is Tuscany themed (well, it will be once I move out and have my own kitchen again); because I choose to live in apartments and you can't really change the color of the walls or anything else structural, I have to use decorating accents to achieve the look I'm going for. This is why his kitchen is my second favorite space (the bedroom is first for obvious reasons ), I love the rustic and old world look to it, the backsplash is really cool.

I think the pic of him in the inside of the magazine is hotter than the cover. Just my two cents. Hey, I love the cover, but the big goofy smile is not as much G as that smoothering sexy look he has sitting back all sexy in that chair....damn!

(This is the first time I'm actually able to accurately use that smiley since I just brewed a cappuccino a few minutes before reading that blog.) Good find, Canadia. That blog is a hoot. I read something not quite so pleasant about his loft yesterday. I won't link that. Yes, Gerry's tastes may be a bit over the top, but what do people expect, a Lazy Boy recliner and a couple of milk crates? I mean, obviously money is no object. He probably made enough this year alone to furnish that place 10 times over. If it makes him happy, that's all that matters.

Someone who must think they are a designer or has superior taste was slagging it and posted photos of men's apartments that he thought was better - I was tempted to post a comment but it was clear that was a snooty designer type crowd but I thought his examples of what Gerry should have done were in fact boring, they were cold and sparse and austere. So while he may not have liked the aesthetic of Gerry's loft, his suggestions of something better were not anywhere near as nice. I was going to say if you want to lure women to your place, as heterosexual men are inclined to do, we don't like cold and sparse and austere. Yes it may look good on the pages of Architectural Digest [and I was not impressed even then] but can you actually live on that furniture. I was going to say part of a good designer's job is to make a livable space a comfortable place to live in not just a musuem piece. But I figured I'd be ripped apart and I don't know enough about the interior design scene in NY to argue back, I just know what I like when I see it for the most part.

That was a funny blog. I for one love Gerry's taste and I could see myself living there... Yeah baby!
