Ahhh...POTO. My poor, lost Erik. *le sigh* I finished the original book not too long ago. It was interesting to see some of the differences between Laroux's novel and ALW's musical, and how much of the story ALW left out. All understandable changes given what ALW was trying to do with it. And I must say that Erik is improving with age...the older he gets, the better he looks! I bought a copy of the special edition DVD for Christmas, and when I opened it, it was 2 copies of the movie, no special features. I contacted the seller, shipped it back only to have it returned a month later as undeliverable, no forwarding address. Grrnoying! I'm still looking for a replacement. If anyone happens across one, please let me know! TTFN, Auntie D

I always feel like I´m in denial while watching the movie, constantly hoping Christine will release her true emotions and go to Erik. But no, always end up crying at the end Thank God for fanfic.

Shattered was not released to audiences except a couple of theaters in Miami and then it went to TNT. I really like Shattered/BOAW, the twists were so good! Gerry really put his heart and soul into that movie! I first became a Gerry fan with seeing POTO in the movie theater. I became besotted with Gerry and POTO. I participated in the RUG auction for the costumes/props and I was fortunate to win a gypsy dancer's and an artist behind the scenes costumes. I have the dancer's dress on a manikin in my living room and I like to bring out the artist's smock on Halloween. I also won a mask from the Masquerade scene which I have in a shadow box frame. They're my special treasures! I have seen both costumes in the movie but I was never able to see the mask in the scene. There were lots of dancers in the background though so it's hard to tell.

Sounds cool Teepat. I love the movie & love his voice. I was too late for props Tec so I just have to settle for just looking at G, such a hardship but someone has to do it.

LOL...I got it from Amazon. I'm still searching, I'm just not trying to pay $40+ for it. I think it's out of print? I'm gonna hit the used book/dvd/game store later today and maybe find it there.
ALW dumped a lot of Erik's backstory, including a character that knew a great deal about Erik, changed the nature of Erik and Christine's relationship quite a bit, and made Buquet (sp?) a bad guy when he really wasn't.
I have to giggle - when I first heard that POTO was being made into a movie, there were a lot of rumors that Antonio Bandaras was going to be cast as Erik. I wasn't a fan of that, even after I saw the video of him singing with Sarah Brightman. I really wanted to see Geoff Tate (used to sing for Queensryche) cast in the role because he's got such a powerhouse voice. I had idea who Gerry was, but I must say I fell in love with the movie when I saw it. He really did justice to Erik and the story. The critics can bite me, because even Michael Crawford didn't sound that great to begin with. If you've ever seen "Hello, Dolly," you'll know what I'm talking about. Cornelius was played by a very young, very raw Michael Crawford. ^_^

I have read the book before , but know i want to read it again.
Yeah , Erik is darker in book and isn't so romantic as ALW version. But it's a great book. I recommend to watch the 80's cartoon , before you read the book. It's pretty accurate except for a couple minor details.

Welcome beechgirl !!! I'm also obsessed with the Phantom of the Opera every since i saw on cable a year and half ago. I have pretty much seen or read any adaption. Even the silent movie with Lon Chaney from 1925. Another favorte is the Phantom of the Opera with Charles Dance. Gerry was great in Phantom of the Opera. I have the soundtrack on my MP3 player. For sometimes , i listend to it a lot. It helped through the rough times.

Bought it beginning of 2012 which started my obsession of GB. I have a neighbor and she comes over to see it. I am lucky that she has some memory loss and will watch it over and over because she can't remember it. My Family hates musicals so it is good that she comes. I'll tell you I can watch it over and over and love it, but the music stays in your head and you can't forget it. This version is wonderful and I have stated I have seen it so many times on stage, but the movie took it to new heights. I just love it. I am so glad I can blog with you Girls, because I have to stop mentioning GB Friends and Family are starting to get annoyed.
