When I re-read my post from yesterday (man, that was long!), I realized I needed to correct myself and I also wanted to clarify a couple of points that have been brought up since. I said, "There was more than twice the amount spent overall on TBH than Love Happens, but that's not the whole story". What I should have said was that the traditional promotion for the movie cost twice as much, i.e. Internet & TV ads, print, etc... That had nothing to do with the cable deal, which is what really nearly bankrupted Miramax. A modest estimation would be roughly $300 million over a 7-month period. Plus the $200 million on regular promotion, then having to pay countless entities to keep the lie of their fauxmance alive until at least the premiere was a lot of moolah. To have spent that and still not have gotten what they wanted is a massive blow to their bank accounts. As far as the script is concerned, it was changed considerably by the time filming began. Milo was made far dumber in the new script than the one Gerry agreed to. But, he had no power to change it as Jen was in control. It was intentionally done to coincide with Jen's ability to stupefy any man using her girly-girl powers of seduction. It was really for her cult following, as much as it was for the cabal running Hollywood to reduce Gerry's status from alpha to oaf. She was serving many, many masters, which is why she was given so much leeway to do whatever she wanted with his image and to control his press. I'm sure you've all noticed that a lot of the vitriol against Gerry has been from women. These are mostly disciples of Jen who have spent the last 20 years throwing up everything they've ever eaten, destroying as many men as they possibly could, eschewing motherhood in favor of freedom (anti-Angelina), learning nothing new, honing no usable skills, etc...all because they've been told by their high priestess that this was the way to hotness. They were acutely aware that it was Jen chasing Gerry, not the other way around. So, with all the tricks she was using (just those used publicly), she should have been able to easily nail a big, dumb punk like Gerry. Her failure was a slap in the face to them, because it meant that they were failures too and, just like Jen, were facing 40 and the rest of their lives alone or completely unhappy. Look what Jen has had to settle for just to get publicity, after being that close to a real man (and a hunk) like Gerry. How dare he reject our queen?! They are full of hatred for Gerry because he's made them re-evaluate themselves and that was never supposed to happen. It comes out when they attack him in countless blogs. I wanted to address something Canadia said: "But I only thought the game involved the usual Aniston dates her co-star until the movie is released Huvane driven PR machine. It was still confusing though, like why did Gerry go to Mexico for her birthday which just put fuel on the fire." Those events are all part of the promotion of a film and are agreed upon when the contract is signed. Just like their GG appearance; that was planned then, too. Those things have to be put in actor's contracts for the very reason we're having this discussion; if there is a falling out, some of the promotional activities may be rejected by one of the stars and they can't be made to do them at that point. In this case, everyone expected Gerry to be under Jen's thumb, but it wasn't to be. He did his job and smiled pretty for the camera, but he was cringing inside. In case you haven't been paying attention, after Jen's "wardrobe malfunction" at GG, she hasn't been invited to any major awards shows since that night. It was one stunt too many and ridiculously inappropriate. Part of saying he "loves" Jen is part of it as well and he still can't speak against her or distance himself too much because he will be attacked for it. She's like a very bad penny; just ask Brad. The people who want Gerry out of Hollywood do have enough power to destroy most people (there are a lot of them who do), but Gerry has too much juice, thankfully. When I watched Ryan Kavanaugh kill MGP, I thought, I know he's been approached by someone who can't stand the thought of Gerry coming back on a high note. There are many ways to harm people without ever doing anything publicly. Ryan has many irons in the fire and if he was attacked at this point in his company's history, he might not make it. Look at what is being done to Jen. She's one of the most powerful actors in Hollywood history (not because she's earned it, but her deals and manipulations put her there), yet they've found a way to destroy her. Her Achilles heel turned out to be keeping her from making more movies so that she will have to leave the spotlight because she can't explain her unemployment. Gerry understood what he was up against when he and Alan started Evil Twins. He knew he wouldn't have access to the better scripts and after Jen, he wouldn't have access to the media. So, it's a strategic game of chess for him and I don't doubt that he'll win. I can't seem to shut up! OK, no more posts for me... Everything I've read on this topic moves me to realize that I have alined myself with people who enjoy following an individual who never has hurt anyone and continues to be aware of what his fans want. But I never realized how in jepordy he could be from one very nasty woman. I only hope that people realize he is a good actor and continue to allow him to make movies (that can be seen by his fans) we will enjoy and he will enjoy filming.

Patty for opening a most interesting discussion. I read somewhere recently that Ted Casablanca, in answer to a question about our Mr B looking like he is aging rapidly, said Hollywood really takes it's toll on people. Seems to tie in with what Patty is saying about the politics of Hollyweird. gerardsgurl wrote: But yet, Gerry should take some of the blame, I believe one of the mistakes he's done, was that he was more concerned about the quantity of his delivered work than quality, he wanted to stay on the scene, and I can't blame him for that, as they say "Out of sight out of mind", and as you might know, Hollywood shows no mercy !! Mr B recently said he had to prove he could bring in the big box office, and I think the multitude of less than stellar projects have more to do with proving his ability to carry a film than with keeping his face out there. A few years back, I read an interesting interview with Matt Damon. He had had 3 flops back-to-back (the golf movie, the horses movie, and I can't remember the third) and suddenly all the offers dried up. He hadn't received a script in months. The only movie he had left in the can was the first Bourne, which did megabucks at the box office, and suddenly he was inundated with scripts. Hollywood is a business, and all they really care about is making money. If your films don't bring in the bucks, your butt is out the door. And the only reason anyone in the business (minus the actors) cares about awards is because an Oscar brings in more bucks. But, doing the rom-coms and proving his worth got him the Coriolanus film. They said they needed a movie star to carry it, and Mr B had proved he indeed has star status. So, along with the bad has come the good. I think our sweet Mr B tried hard to please everyone until it compromised his integrity. And he knew where to draw the line. Now, he has the respect of the community, and is finding himself working with some of our finest directors. Hats off to Mr B. He has managed to swim in shark infested waters and survive a bit bruised and battered, but intact. Smart, talented, hard-working and immensely likeable, Mr B is going to be OK. Look for bigger and better things to come for him. It's what he deserves.

Kiss, from your mouth to God's ears. Let the word go forth Mr. B must be looked at as a serious actor. One that is deserving to be given good roles. Hang in there Gerry we will do the same. For those who leave his sites how sad I thought you would stick by him no matter what. Those who remain lets always ban together for him.

This is just so WRONG, I just watched ET's preview of movies coming this winter/spring and neither of Gerry's films were featured. Coriolanus was not announced for January And they announced all of the films being released on March 9th except for Playing the Field. I really hate to think Aniston/TBH could have caused him to be completely ignored by ET. And I want to know how can PTF be highlighted and promoted unless there is a trailer! Just not Good! shellie

You make a good point, Shellie, that scares me too that there is no PTF trailer yet with the movie coming out in two months. Usually the trailer is out about 3 months before the movie unless it's a huge epic movie when the trailer hits much earlier or a movie they don't have much faith in like MGP when the trailer only comes out a few weeks before the movie.... Maybe they move PTF's release date back a little since they still did reshoots in Dec.... I hope it's not going to be another MGP.

I know there is something not right about there not being a trailer yet. I checked the release schedule for March 9th on BOM and it is a busy weekend, maybe it would be a good idea to put the release date back later since there are 4 wide releases including a second comedy, John Carter Sci-Fi Adventure Buena Vista Wide Playing the Field Romantic Comedy FilmDistrict Wide The Raven Thriller Relativity Wide Think Like a Man Comedy Sony / Screen Gems Wide Limited releases: The Bully Project Documentary Weinstein Company Footnote Foreign Sony Classics Jiro Dreams of Sushi Foreign Magnolia Playback Horror Thriller Magnolia Salmon Fishing in the Yemen Drama CBS Films shellie

I think moving PTF to a less crowded weekend would be good. It also worries me that they label it a romantic comedy. Some people won't give it a chance simply because of that and because TBH still being too much in people's memory. Wish they would label it family/ sports drama.....

Gerry will get his day, and when it comes it will be sweet indeed. Every account I have EVER read of the business end of Hollywood is down right nasty. How anyone keeps their head on straight down there is beyond me!

The best revenge. Gerry will work consistently and as time goes on have more and more influence on his films. His films will make lots of money that continue to support his creativity. There has already been a shift in how he is perceived. Now if his PR team could just change that 'ladies man' image. An award would be nice but .....at least Gerry is making movies and we continue to see the show from the sidelines.
