May i spoil some of the story for you, Tori ? Well, as a matter of fact in the first book they join each other. And stay this way in the greatest part of the book, too. Yet right at the end of it something happens and James has to force Claire to return in her own time ( He's from 1746, she's from 1945). The whole of the second book is about those years spent apart without each one knowing if the other is alive or not. Claire discovers that Jamie is alive at the last page of the second book. And then you rush off to buy the third book and see what's next..... ;D It's a saga that simply won't let you put it down, no matter how you fill about the story's length. As for Twilight, i read about it in IMDb, and i thought it is a movie i want to see. I'm afraid i'm not that much into Vampire stories reading, though.....

Spoiler AlertPardon me Dianne, i transfer this part of our discussion here, cause it seemed more appropriate as the subject is JF and not Gerard's pics. I hope it's o.k.. When he was injured at Lollybroch I was a little disappointed when he realized it was really her and he got a little stubborn again....It was almost as if his pride came into play. And those other scenes were so touching....I also loved the scene in the garden when she wanted to run from him after she lost the baby. I thought that was very touching as well as heartbreaking. I didn't blame Jamie for hating Frank. Under the circumstances Claire asked a lot for Jamie to let what Jack Randal did lie for a while, although I understand her reason.

MORE SPOILER ALERTIMO, the injury scene at Lolly broch was just so real....i mean we often say things that we really mean when we think we won't have another chance. And Jamie being at the death's threshold and thus speaking was overwhelming for me, romantic fool i am. Well, later on his pride involved, you're right - after all he's just a human, isn'the ? Well, indeed Jack and Jamie had their own issues to resolve and James showed and unparallel strength of will in obeying Claire. Now, how can i forget the night when she asked him not to kill Jack, the tension and the painfully huge gasp between them...."Don't touch me...just let it be" oh, this line was killing me. Now, dearest Dianne, please enlighten me, am i to enjoy some more passion and dramatic twists such as these in Drums of the Automn or am i going to be bored to death reading about the flora and fauna plus the social structure of native inhabitants of America ?

Has Jenny forgiven Jamie yet for Ian? Because soon after she forgives him Jamie has a moment about something that Jenny reveals to to him in a letter....And I wish Claire hadn't taken it as well as she had. I myself would have been very upset even though he assured her that she had nothing to be upset about....I would have had a little hissy fit if I was Claire. There's a few very touching moments something people a long time together would have not the newbe passion they shared in the beginning.
As they age I feel that both would have a lot harder time moving on if either one lost the other. Even though the twenty years appart was devestating for both I feel that now it may be impossible to endure for either. I have heard stories in real life of one dying and the other one dying later of a broken heart. This may be the case for them.
Oh and I think that bullet was meant for Claire.
Also Long- de-what's her face.....Funny she wanted him bad and was willing to lie steal and cheat to get him. She gets him and doesn't know what to do with him....typical.
I almost choked when I found out about her.....

I'm afraid i'm just in the beginning, Dianne. They are on their way to find aunt Jocasta and the only possibility of ever return to Lollybroch is James accepting Governor's propose. Bullet ? You mean the bullet coming from Laoghaire's shot and almost killed Jamie ? I hate Laoghaire, pretty little bitch, she already tried to kill Claire once, together with Geilan, yet if i put myself in Laoghaire's shoes and see my "rival"coming back from the deads 20 years after, i won't be ovewhelming with joy either..... It may have escape my notice, yet, right at the beginning of "Outlander" and in 1946, Frank on his way home at night, he comes face to face with a man dressed in kilt, who is staring at Claire's window, looking totally in despair....Frank things he's a ghost, Claire hasn't met JF so far....i presume he's JF...does this episode find an explanation maybe and in which of the books ?

No, all I can gather is that was Jamie's ghost. Their was never and explanation and it was never brought up again.
Jamie has shown the ability of ESP through out the story....Maybe Gabaldon should have had Jamie dreaming of Claire in prison and somehow projected himself forward in time....
That would have been a great explanation...he could have pondered the dream about seeing a man that he knew to be Frank.....Again that is just what I thought she should have done....it would have been interesting....

Hmmm..... i like the projection explanation, more. I won't wish to read about Jamies Fraser death. James never dies. Make him a vampire, a wolf man....i really don't care, just don't let him die, O.K....? Although judging on Mrs Gabaldon prolific pen, the Outlander saga is going to be with us for many good years.... ;D And since the "Ghost James" scene is so strong and characteristic, i don't think she will leave it as a loose end..

You know what....I always wondered about that as well. And I wondered why she never brought that ghost scene up again. I mean Frank made the point of telling her he saw a very feirce looking warrior in full Scots dress..... What is happening now where you are reading because I hate to ask you something that will give anything away. Has Roger and Jamie met? But Jamie is pychic, he does see his loved ones in dreams. I had to laugh at one point. Claire was trying to explain heredity to him and there was something about Brianna that wasn't like him. It was either the ear lobes or being able to roll your tongue and he looked at Claire funny for only a moment because whatever it was Brianna had she didn't get it from him....and he had just this little flicker of doubt. I felt like flicking him in the head. Everyone just looked at him.....Like you have got to be kidding me???" and he was completely shamed. I think that is what makes her books so great is her characters are so human. Jamie, is not a perfect man but has faults...many faults. Claire, I love her but she doesn't use common sense. Brianna let people walk on her, especially her husband and I thought Roger was selfish in a lot of ways. He took Brianna for granted. I think if Roger hadn't had a firm set of morals he would have strayed in his marriage.

www.cco.caltech.edu/~gatti/gabaldon/gabaldon.htmlGood Lord! I was googling and searching DG and "Outlander" to no end yesterday night.... So, i've come with some interesting finds: DG's site and a quote which i can't for my life say where did i read it from, that Diane will connect the Ghost Scot episode in the last book of the series. I can see why Claire forgot all about the Scot appearing out of her window. It was just a few hours before she walked through the stone circle and with all that has happened since, no doupt she has wip it out of her mind as a minor detail of everyday life. Besides, she didn't knew James yet, the only connection with Scotland being the care of some Scotish lad during the war..... Isn't it wonderful though that both her marriages happened at the same chappel ? Fate....!

Interesting about the ghost, but do you really want to know how they meet....The what, the when and the how? I'm glad you told me that because I didn't want to give anything away. By the end of the sixth book Jamie and Claire are in their 50's. I think Gabaldon is just going through their whole lives and they have a romantic death together in the end. Sad but it will have to end....
