SOOOSooooooooo...this film is finally going to be made. and, it can ONLY be made by one of her sons....gerry was created to do THIS part! (puts ear to the wind...) per chance, a distant daughter called forth to the ancient hills...hmmmmmm? drama + a period piece! be still my beating heart if mr. fiennes directs 'corlianus' in the way he was created to do....whoosh! perhaps the twain shall meet at 'burns'? any director, writers or cinematographer on board yet? burns born 1/25/1759....mozart born 1/27/1756...both gents lived around the same time period. what else was happening europe during the 1700's? ...a little ice age, wars fought & won, day of invention, exploration, enlightenment, america born....

this is going to be a great movie....gerry is going to look hottt...
a little poem by Robert Burns....
A Red, Red Rose
O my Luve's like a red, red rose, That's newly sprung in June: O my Luve's like the melodie, That's sweetly play'd in tune.
As fair art thou, my bonie lass, So deep in luve am I; And I will luve thee still, my dear, Till a' the seas gang dry.
Till a' the seas gang dry, my dear, And the rocks melt wi' the sun; And I will luve thee still, my dear, While the sands o' life shall run.
And fare-thee-weel, my only Luve! And fare-thee-weel, a while! And I will come again, my Luve, Tho' 'twere ten thousand mile!
...cant you just imagine him saying this ohhh...it just makes me smile..

Well, seeing Mr Butler and Mr Burns side by side i only can say that Scots are getting better over centuries....! Now, i have to confess that i first heard the above written poem MANY years ago in a whiskey commercial on Greek TV...i was just a teenager back then, not very fond of whiskey -not that i'm fonder of it now - and certainly with lesser knowledge of English language....however, those words albeit not easy to understand and that male voice - still don't know who he was - imprinted the poem in my soul for ever. I got the sense of the poem long before i get the meaning of the words.... I still remember it as one of the most romantic pieces i've ever heard .... PS Sassenach's second thoughts: Will it be wise to impersonise such a romantic figure by Gerard ? I mean will it be safe for the myriads of women around the world ? Shall it by a little bit cruel perhaps ? Will this movie, perhaps be the cause for the collapse of our civilization - as many have foreseen - in 2012?

Such a lovely poem Mrbutler thanks for sharing that one, and I am looking forward to this movie as well. I always loved men in period costume and Gerry is going to be stunning in this movie.

Will this movie, perhaps be the cause for the collapse of our civilization - as many have foreseen - in 2012? As regards the collapse of our civilization I don't know, but the collapse of our knees when seeing Gerry totally naked throughout the movie...well, I can guess something about it!!

He could be in a movie entitled, "Men Perpetually Attired in Turtlenecks and Long Pants" and we'd still be envisioning ways for him to be naked throughout the film!

HA! ..i LOVE you girls! collapse of society, turtle necks and gerry's nakedness.... yes! must agree, the only thing to collapse would be my knees, but of course, in the most strategically placed spot on all the earth...... and, if that was a cigar i'd schmoke it.....

With the news coming out today that it seems Burns is a GO for a 2010 film - 2011 release....I wonder about the choice of Directors in Vadim Jean?!?!? Vadim Jean is not exactly well known and more importantly he hasnt worked much. I know G worked with him on One More Kiss, but that was a pretty weak effort and not exactly classic (although I loved G in that movie and the cinemetographer shot some gorgegous scenes).
Vadim Jean = Burns!?!?!? I don't get it! Gerry has had a passion for this film for years now and with his star power they get Vadim Jean to Direct? Not feeling it at all....

Well I am glad you mentioned that because I had not heard of him - of course with an indy budget and timing issues you may not have a lot of choice. I'll have to look him up, perhaps he has done work in the TV realm? I do recall that sometimes stars have gone with lesser known directors going on gut instinct, even fighting for them with the producers and it has worked out brilliantly.
I can't think though are there any Scottish movie directors of some note. I would think if there was a Scottish version of Neil Jordan, that would be perfect. And did anyone know who Neil Jordan was before the Crying Game? One of my all time favourite movies BTW.

Jean has been attached from the beginning, he wrote the script. The project I think has been in development since 2004 or 05, the fellow who played the father in One Last Kiss is one of the producers. Those two spearheaded the project and Gerry came on board. All of this before 300, so Gerry's rising visibility has pushed Burns slowly along.
