I totaly love that movie, was watching it yesterday...Gerry was a good daddy!! Totally agree with you. I love that scene when Frankie hugged him for the first time - The Stranger didn't know how to react. I like his character - it's mysterious, sexy, with heart - just the way I love it. Yeah you"re right that was totaly cute.My fav was where Frankie gives his"Father"the sea horse.Ohhhh sooo cuute!!

LOL, I know. It's brilliant. Speaking of brilliant, I wish one of you brilliant writers here would continue Ian and Lizzie's story. It is so ripe with possibilities! I tried, but Erik wouldn't let me continue. I'm afraid I belong only to him. LOL! Once I finish my current fan fic story(Love You Till the End), I plan on writing a fan fiction story with how I would imagine a sequel to be.

Lovely blog on Acting that discusses Dear Frankie Thoughts On Acting Excerpt: "I was watching Dear Frankie again the other evening, Shona Auerbach’s very unslick 2004 film that got a standing ovation at Cannes. She does things that you don’t often see anymore – close-ups of just the eyes, shots of characters where little is said but so much conveyed by their body language. Look at the long, drawn-out awkwardness before Gerard Butler and Emily Mortimer kiss. Where did Auerbach find the confidence to do that?" From a blog Adventures in Riding and Writing One of the movies I just watched is a cute little movie called Dear Frankie. I think it has just become my new motivational movie. I'm the first to admit that the movie isn't the greatest I've ever seen. It certainly isn't my new favorite movie, but there is something about it that whispered to the writer in me. Not only is it a lovely story about the love between a parent and a child, but for the romantics out there, there is a small hint of romance. Most people would probably complain about the ending, which simply stops, but for me it worked. It isn't the type of ending that leaves you with the sense that the world is at peace, but rather the type of ending that lets the viewer know that the story is far from over. The next time I find myself in the position of starting a new project and not having a single idea of where to begin, I think I might use the ending of Dear Frankie to springboard a free writing session and see where the words take me. To me, the most intriguing part of the movie was the character who was simply called the stranger. Gerard Butler played this character and if I didn't already admire Mr. Butler, this movie would have made it happen. He did an amazing job. Best of all his character was a writers dream. Throughout the movie you have no idea what his motivation is, what he would be doing if he weren't hanging out with a little boy, or even what his future holds. It is the type of character that allows the viewer to dream. If you haven't watched this movie yet, you should. It really is a sweet little movie that is full of hope and love. jessicaschira.blogspot.com/2010/07/dear-frankie.html

I have three OMG, heart stopping movie memory moments that still occur every time I see that particular movie (and if a movie touches me, I see them often...and these three movies are in that category)...One is in "Free Willy" when Willy, the Orca breaches the jetty where Jessie is standing giving him the signal to jump, and Willy literally flies over Jessie's head and into the ocean on the other side of the jetty...The second OMG, heart-stopping moment is in "The Man From Snowy River" where Tom Berenger rides his horse straight down a mountainous cliff, literally STRAIGHT DOWN...totally vertically...and this being validated by the fact that Tom Berenger is a master horseman and did his own riding, it was NOT a stunt double and there was no trick photography, and he did it in one take...a REAL OMG moment...but the third OMG moment for me, and another that literally stops my heart, as well as touches it in the most profound way, is from "Dear Frankie"...when Frankie and the Stranger are in the pet store and looking at the aquarium with the seahorses, and the Stranger comes around to the side where Frankie is, and kneels down beside him, and for the first time, smiles at Frankie...and the love that the Stranger emoted in that one scene for that precious little boy was so heartfelt and beautiful, it fully qualifies as an OMG, heart-stopping, but at the same time, profound heartfelt moment as well.
The entire movie, "Dear Frankie," is without doubt, one of Gerry's shining moments, as well as being one of the sweetest, most wonderful movies ever to grace the silver screen. To think that Gerry almost did not do that movie, just makes me shutter to think about.
Peace out.. Mareksgirl

Gerry was the PERFECT "Stranger" in Dear Frankie!!! He and Emily Mortimer were cast so perfectly in that movie.......I don't think anyone else in the world could have played their parts any better!! They had such great chemistry!!! It was one of those movies that I just didn't want to end....so heartfelt and sweet!!! (BTW The other cast members were wonderful, too!!) Kneum

I love how they had seahorses in that scene to symbolise the father figure. That's exactly what The Stranger was to Frankie. I agree...this is, and always will be, one of Gerry's best performances. He was the perfect Stranger, and the director even said that the minute he walked in the door for his audition, she knew he was the one.

Terez, I'm constantly reminded how many of my favorite Gerry interviews I might never have seen but for all the effort you give to making them accessible to us. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. In that Cannes Hollywood Reporter video you posted in the Cannes 2012 thread Gerry talks about Dear Frankie so I thought it would be a good time to share his Japan press conference with those who may not have seen it. In addition to talking about Dear Frankie and the methods he uses as an instinctive actor, he mentions Phantom of the Opera and is charmingly forthcoming about his drinking. It's also a good opporltunity to see the lovely Gerry of 2005, short hair, bare face and all.
