I actually like Uma, despite her man hands and big feet. Not Gerry's type. Ain't going to happen. Speculation be damned.
Now if it was Sophia Vegara, we would need to worry. She's stunning and right up his ally.

Thank you GA!!! blogs.indiewire.com/theplaylist/archives/uma_thurman_jessica_biel_are_playing_the_field_with_gerard_butler/#Uma Thurman & Jessica Biel Are ‘Playing The Field’ With Gerard Butler It looks two actresses have come aboard to add some flavor to a sports-world comedy that will find Gerard Butler weaving through relationships both on and off the pitch. Variety reports that Uma Thurman and Jessica Biel have joined “Playing The Field,” a soccer movie that will find Butler playing a troubled father and former semi-pro soccer player trying to make up for lost time by coaching his son’s team. He ends up finding himself in trouble when he starts getting involved with some of the local soccer moms. Biel will play Butler’s ex-wife who is engaged to get married, while Thurman will play a cougar on the prowl for Butler. The project actually originated as a baseball story called “Confessions of a Little League Coach” but was reconfigured in way that will clearly give it much more international appeal. The film is set to be directed by Gabriele Muccino (”Seven Pounds,” “The Pursuit Of Happyness”) with a script in place from Robbie Fox (”So I Married An Axe Murderer,” “In The Army Now”). Lensing will begin next month, after which Butler will transition over to Curtis Hanson’s gestating surfing pic “Mavericks.” As for Muccino, he’ll direct the supernatural romance tale “Adaline” following this project, early in 2012. Sounds like an intriguing little project but with Muccino’s tendency to turn up the sentiment and Fox seemingly specializing in particularly broad strains of comedy, this has the potential to be all over the map. We’ll wait to see how this one plays out.

Again, thank you GA!!!! Uma Thurman and Jessica Biel Join Gerard Butler in Soccer Comedy PLAYING THE FIELD by Adam Chitwood Posted:February 22nd, 2011 at 6:43 pm 0diggsdigg uma-thurman-jessica-biel-slice The next big American soccer comedy (after The Big Green, yes that one with the Sandlot kid) has added two more names to its cast. Uma Thurman and Jessical Biel have joined previously announced Gerard Butler in Playing the Field. Directed by Gabriele Muccino, the film tells the story of a troubled father trying to make up for lost time by coaching his son’s team — but who finds himself in hot water after some of the local mothers take a little too much of a shine to him (and he to them). Variety reports that Biel will star as Butler’s ex-wife, while Thurman will play one of the soccer moms trying to seduce Butler. The actor is also producing the film, with a script from Robbie Fox (So I Married an Axe Murderer). Pre-production is underway with filming set to start soon. As we reported earlier today, Muccino will move on to direct the romance film Adaline following Playing the Field. collider.com/uma-thurman-jessica-biel-playing-the-field/77385/

Jessica Biel is not very impressive as a film actress, in my book (and, for the person who asked, she's dating Justin Timberlake.) She had very little screen presence in "The A-Team" as Bradley Cooper's ex-lover/a CIA agent. I think this might be a bit of stunt casting...getting a name rather than a talent. (Sorry to all the JB fans.)
Maybe her part isn't large. She's supposed to be remarrying so the focus is on the father/son relationship strengthening.
As for Uma...yes she can be seductive but I don't think this is a good fit for her...
Color me unimpressed so far by the female casting.

beacon. would've thought uma was going to be the ex-wife, it would've been age-appropriate. can't picture biel at all-sorry to any of her fans, but i don't think that girl can act. at all. uma can but i'm not sure this is what she should've been doing for this movie. not to be too negative, but i'm not overwhelmed by this news honestly. there's the potential for some good moments between uma and gerry, as long as they don't make uma too over-the-top and/or desperate. and, sorry, not to be mean, but if they have jb and gerry's characters end up together i'll be seriously not happy

I guess I'm tepid towards both choices is general. Like I said, not a Biel (or Thurman) fan, per se (that's fine, to each their own), but I'd looooove for HIM to be paired with an actress that can stand toe-to-toe to him in...presence AND pretty. Granted, I KNOW there are not a lot of good-looking actors and actresses out there that are compelling in general, even less that might be interested in this kinda movie, but to be fair, I have seen Biel in action, and she was just "okay" in the two ensemble casts. Pretty to some, yes, but she didn't really stand out for me beyond that in either case, IMHO. I'm not a casting director/producer (yet), but I'm not naive. This all boils down to bottom lines and deadlines: who is affordable, who won't hurt if not help box office receipts, and who is available starting late March. Ultimately, the direction this story will take is what will determine who are the key players and what "caliber" of actors/actresses will be needed in those roles, so I'm just gonna have to wait-n-see. I'm willing to be made a believer, just not one at the moment. Cheers!

Definitely underwhelmed by this casting news, especially Jessica Biel. Uma Thurman even though I am not a fan she is a good choice for a soccer mom cougar. LOL. Sorry, but with Jessica Biel, all I see is a wrong choice. She isn't funny and she isn't warm and I can't see her selling this role she reminds me of JA in her acting and we all know that didn't work on screen. LOL

The speculations will be about Gerry and Biel, especially if you throw ole JT in.... that would make a great gossip story... Jessica cheating on Justin with Gerry... bleh. Uma is box office poison. That has me worried. She also seems so cold. I mean she didn't have any chemistry with gorgeous Jeffrey Dean Morgan or Colin Firth in The Accidental Husband. I don't remember her ever having chemistry with anybody... maybe with Travolta in Pulp Fiction but I still hated that movie. (I'm probably the only one who doesn't like it, oh well...) I'm not worried about Biel being that much younger than Gerry. I think she looks a bit older than her age. She worked with Adam Sandler and he is older than Gerry. There is a mature look about her, it's going to look fine. I think she is a stunning beauty in a classic Hollywood way. I like her fine but haven't seen her in much.

I am underwhelmed by this news too.
I am thinking that perhaps this is going to be a Gerry movie with his costars being UT and JB. Instead of the scenario of "this is an Anniston movie with Gerry as a costar". Perhaps they wanted actresses that wouldn't be overpowering in the marketing of the movie so that he remains the main focus.
I sure hope this is a decent movie. Kind of concerned. Love the idea of him being a soccer player!

www.screenjunkies.com/movies/movie-news/jessica-biel-and-uma-thurman-to-star-in-soccer-comedy-will-they-take-their-shirts-off/Jessica Biel And Uma Thurman To Star In Soccer Comedy, Will They Take Their Shirts Off? Though I get bored watching soccer, it’d be hard for me to get bored staring at Jessica Biel and Uma Thurman. So I’m gonna call the new soccer movie Playing The Field a tie. The film stars Gerard Butler as a pee-wee soccer coach lothario, acting as the coach to finally spend quality time with his son, but really to spend quality time with hot soccer moms. Of course, I don’t know that I’d want to date a woman who’s screaming, “put my son on the field you f*cking piece of shit! He’s way better than that waste of space Bergman. He’s picking his nose on the field, for god sake. Are you blind?” But I digress. Thurman will play the sexy Hollywood version of a soccer mom (I guess we have Sarah Palin, but blood libels are also a turn-off), while Biel stars as Butler’s ex-wife. Playing The Field is helmed by Italian director Gabriele Muccino (The Pursuit of Happyness) and written by Robbie Fox (So I Married an Axe Murderer). The whistle will blow on filming very soon. The only thing I've seen JB in was the TV show "Seventh Heaven"; hard to say how she'd do in a comedy, but I am willing to give her a chance to prove herself. Unsure about Uma.

She's in I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry with Adam Sandler and Kevin James. She was the "serious" one, but she did really well. I have a feeling she won't be in too many comedic scenes; I think that'll be left for Uma Thurman and other soccer moms.
