Hubby and I saw Movie 43 on Friday. I have to say it was the raunchiest, grossest, most disgusting film ever, yet we laughed through the entire movie!!! It was hilarious!! It's definitely not a movie for everyone, but like I said before......having raised two sons, (not to mention growing up with a brother plus my husband has FOUR brothers) there wasn't anything in the movie that shocked us!!! There were, of course, some segments that were better than others, but the Hugh Jackman/Kate Winslett one, was absolutely hysterical!! We thought Gerry's was good, too!! I really don't know how some of the actors got through their scenes with a straight face!! I hope the DVD has a "blooper reel"!! I definitely can't recommend it for everyone, but if you decide to go......be sure to go, as GA said, with an OPEN MIND!!!! Kneum P.S. There were only 4 other people in the theater with us, but we went at noon on Friday.........

So this movie is labelled as a flop... However I think that is too early to call. Without hardly any promotion it made about as much or even more money than many well promoted movies (including PFK...) I think this movie will gain momentum through word of mouth.

I saw Movie 43 today and wasn't impressed at all. It was a juvenile raunchy movie. I have nothing against it but not for me. I was at the early show with about a dozen others. I didn't look at each person but it definitely looked like mostly older men in their 40s or older mostly by themselves. I imagine going in the evening would give you a whole bunch of young people as well.
I thought Gerry's skit was the least offensive. Blood doesn't phase me anymore. He was quite cute as a lepracahn. Never thought i'd say that. I wonder if it was meant to be a longer skit if Colin Farrell was involved. It was really short.
I am sure there is a crowd out there looking for a raunchy comedy...mostly guys. I can't imagine women going unless a guy takes her or she's a fan of one of the actors. That's why I went.
The acting was good but I am sure glad Gerry wasn't in those other roles.

Yes, I had some women in my showing as well... And they giggled through most of it... Roeper and Ebert HATED the movie, according to them, worst movie ever. They gave it zero stars, however the users gave it four....lol. I disagree. I have seen much worse movies. Here is Roeper's review... Careful, lots of spoilers!!! Major spoilers!!! rogerebert.suntimes.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=%2F20130123%2FREVIEWS%2F130129973

not long. i think he's got maybe at least 10 shots BUT we have double the pleasure.... Oh My God...i havent laughed this hard in awhile. the tears were streaming down the face and the belly ached so bad. TOTALLY GROSS!! we spent an early birthday gathering downtown schenectady (thats where the film showed closest), had dinner then jogged across the frozen street (just above freezing, thank youverymuch....below zero with the wind chill ) inside the theatre was toasty and served chilled wine and cheap chocolate. it was half packed, mostly young adults. craZy film...loved dennis quaids manical proding greg kinear to get his film done (so, i should take a lesson? oye)....the 'happy birthday' skit with G and two hysterical dudes sean william scott (very handsome but heftier? ) and johnny knoxville ( nutcase LOL) gross but the irony is what got you laughing....the other fav's were the date skits (halle barry, kate winslet, hugh jackman) and the 'middle school date' scene - very VERY funny. i'll mention it was novel & delightful to see married couple liev & naomi in this role...liev REALLY does have quite the comedic side to him. he's SO deadpan.....i LOVE it. all in all, its a rib kicker. if you appreciate the sick, twisted humor. of which, i do. ((tooley tucker ~ ya did it! but, why the 'cat' GAK ((cough)) GeKaka...that really messed with my sensibilities....

I don't know Deadline said the Cinemascore was a D - that is a survey they take as film goers leave the movie to get their impression of it or some such whereas Chasing Mavericks and Playing for Keeps had much higher Cinemascores then the critics were giving Falling from #6 to #7 is Relativity’s $6M R-rated ensemble comedy Movie 43 that earned a dreaded ‘D’ CinemaScore from audiences to hurt word of mouth. Playing in 2,023 theaters, its gimmick is 12 directors, 30 name actors, and 18 writers working on different shorts stitched together. I’m already hearing a lot of them regret taking part. Movie 43 debuted at $1.8M Friday and +10% to $2M Saturday for a weekend of $4.0M. That’s only half what Relativity predicted. “If you are going to take a creative risk, what better way to do it than on a $6M budget with the opportunity to work with a large pool of writers, directors and actors including Peter Farrelly and Charles Wessler – two comedic geniuses.” Actors worked for scale and the production moved to accommodate schedules. This explains why the film was shot over 3 years. Seriously, how much longer is Relativity going to keep claiming its risk is mitigated by international pre-sales, outputs and Netflix before P&A spend? Meanwhile Ryan Kavanaugh, listed as a producer, may well be in the Witness Protection Program because he’s mercifully stopped publicizing himself. With Alliance Films distributing in Canada, Relativity owns worldwide rights and Lionsgate International handled international sales and distribution. Movie 43 has supposedly taken in $10M overseas. www.deadline.com/tag/movie-43/ouch But the good news is this movie will probably more than break even, good for Relativity Media. I do think it will do killer in DVD because all the kids who didn't or couldn't go to the movie will want to get at the DVD just for the gross factor.

Both Chasing Mavericks and Playing for Keeps got a Cinemascore of a B+ but the word of mouth didn't help the box office. But Chasing Mavericks was up against a Hurricane and Playing for Keeps was up against a total over the top trashing by the critics.
Who knows what a D- will reap maybe people will be interested in seeing what was so awful LOL And I agree the movie will probably be a big hit on DVD.

Huh, I don't get their math. What am I missing? Friday 1.8 Mio, Sat 2.0 Mio... Why do they predict only a 4 Mio weekend? I'd think it'll make at least another Mio today... ?
Plus 10 Mio overseas...it's already a success considering the budget.
Boxofficemojo estimates the weekend at 5 Mio, that sounds right.
Considering that the movie wasn't promoted at all, that's not that bad. They never seem to add that into their calculations.

RM had predicted 8 - 10 million for the US weekend box office that is what they are referring to but I am not sure

Official UK box office figures are out tomorrow but the provisional figures are in and Movie 43 looks to have gone in at around number 9. Not sure what to make of that position.
Another provisional set of figures have gone online giving a box office position of number 7 so not sure what the official figures will reveal.
