Gerry is a naughty, naughty boy with a wicked sense of humor. He admitted that he liked Borat. I think deep down he actually enjoyed making that movie. Also, it's not a surprise that they got mostly European and Australian A-listers... I think they just have a bit different attitude towards some of this stuff than Americans. Just do a search for the German trailer for this movie and you know what I mean. I can not post the link here because the trailer is VERY r-rated!!! Not for the faint of hearted. I didn't think this movie was for me since Borat was too much for me and I'm not a prude... Lol... I am from Europe originally and nudity doesn't shock me but Borat was just too much. So I thought I would pass... However after reading that intriguing review I decided to watch it. I'm going with a coworker on Tuesday. That should be interesting...lol I warned him about the movie... But be admitted loving Borat so he may like it better than me... Lol plus Tuesday is bargain day so if I walk out I only waste $ 5... I didn't have a problem with Borat. Laughed and enjoyed it. I will probably enjoy Movie 43 too......I'm neither squeamish nor prissy. I sometimes like raunchy humor. Sex is often VERY funny!! People need to lighten up about the big S. Me too, I thought Borat was hysterical!

Hubby and I are going to see Movie 43 tomorrow! After raising two boys, I am quite sure there won't be too much that will shock or gross me out, BUT I will let you know.......... Having lived in a household with lots of testosterone and male humor for a long time, perhaps I'm conditioned!! We shall see..... Kneum

I did not have a problem with Borat as I was a fan of the character on the Ali G show but Bruno was so bad, glad I did not pay to see that one. Now the Jackass movies do not appeal to me whatsoever. My favourite part of Borat is him wearing that green mankini thing LOL. I love raunchy comedians though live /stand up like George Carlin so glad I got to see him live before he died, Chris Rock, - I love his routine about being married vs being single been to Yuk Yuk's comedy club many times
some of the jokes in Movie 43 are a bit cringeworthy from the review, a bit too reliant on shall we say stereotypes that are definitely not political correct right now
actually I suspect that Gerry's bit is one of the best bits and the one with Hugh Jackman definitely sounds intriguing
who could not love RocknRolla, clearly this guy lets his personal feelings about certain individuals cloud his judgment about the movie
a good critic like Roger Ebert has an open mind every time he or she goes into a screening but unfortunately it seems more critics go in with preconceived notions
it happens in music too you wonder if the critics hadn't written the review before going to the concert or seeing the movie and just filled in a few details sometimes you wonder if they filed it before they saw the movie, and some critics look like they just copied someone else's review
I bet there is a site out there that critiques the critics

OK good news; bads news. I genuinely was hoping that the snowstorms that have hit the UK would mean that Kermode would not be able to get into London to see and review Movie 43. Unfortunately he is actually in the cinema now (according to twitter) watching the movie so there will be a review this afternoon. Kermode is one of the most powerful men in the UK movie industry, he has damaged careers. Oddly enough one of the funniest moments I have ever heard was just after Atonement was released (which Mr K Hated) Benedict Cumberbatch (TV Sherlock Holmes) and star of Atonement with Kira Knightly was being interviewed by Kermode and Mr K called Knightly Ikea Knightly (ie a wooden actress) this resulted in BC punching MR K live on air. I cannot find the audio clip as I suspect the BBC dare not put it online. Also for those interested Revolver: www.youtube.com/watch?v=ooPdPYZpR2sBy the way Kermode liked Sherlock Holmes Pirates of the Caribbean 3 : www.youtube.com/watch?v=lZMfe4qnoKUI am watching twitter for any indication of his thought on the movie and Gerard and to be honest I am scared. This is what Gerard is up against.

Benedict Cumberpatch just shot up even higher in my respect for him I bet a lot of people got a vicarious thrill out of that I know that when Lainey was interviewing Gerry on the red carpet, Gerry was too nice though IMO I thought they were both nervous for obvious reasons but I wanted him to throw in just a little dig but he didn't I wanted to see her turn 1000 shades of red and to be fair it was the only time she was nice about him in her column because he was the only one who stopped to talk to her on the red carpet it didn;t last long though on the other hand Gerry himself said the movie would either be hilarious or a disaster

Thank you for the feedback on Kermode. I am increasingly intrigued about Ebert. I have heard of him but does he work on TV, radio or in print.
Mary I notice that he either goes off the deep end in blind anger over a film or praises it to the heavens.
What is sad is that I can only recall Gerard getting a couple of good reviews in the last 10 years. One was One More Kiss and the other was Coriolanus.
The oddest moment I ever heard in regards to Gerard and reviewers was the time when Andrews Collins was guest reviewer of the Mayo Kermode Show.
For some reason he mentioned that he would dearly love to get hold of Gerard and squish his face into the ground. I found this buzzard for various reasons but mainly because Gerard is a 6 foot 2 Scotsman and Collins is a rather pale white middle class gentleman who would run a mile if Gerard lost his rag. I still do not understand in what parallel universe that would happen.
I still have no idea why Gerard provokes such resentment within the critical fraternity of the UK.

Unfortunately, that still fits most of today's critics, especially the ones who only write on the internet. I wonder how many of them could understand it without checking a dictionary every other word. If they own dictionaries. Excuse me for criticizing critics. I've been reading their bashing of the OHF trailer. Larue I moved this post from the 'What makes me laugh' thread because I thought you would want it to be here. Fifi

Pothos, that's the most bizzarre thing I have heard! What was the context? Was he talking about Gerry personally or his on-screen persona?

I saw Movie 43 this evening even though I was nervous about seeing Gerry as a leprechaun. It was definitely not my kind of movie but I will say that IMO the two best segments were 1) Hugh Jackman and Kate Winslet and 2 Seann William Scott, Johnny Knoxville and Gerry (as the foul-mouthed leprechaun obsessed with balls.) They were funny and well acted segments. Some of the other segments were IMO gross and not really funny although well acted. What HW needs IMO is more GOOD writers.
In my theater there were just a few people, mostly men, and they were laughing. I think later on when the teenage boys come out to play, they will enjoy it. I will say Gerry somehow convinced me that he was indeed a leprechaun which to me shows the depth of his talent. The foul-mouthed obsessed with balls part was not so much of a stretch. I bet he thought the whole movie was funny, but I hope his mother skips this one!

Since my co-worker can't make it Tuesday as we had planned, we both spontaneously decided to watch the movie tonight. I just got back. Omg... I haven't laughed this hard in a while. There were about 20 people in the theater, mostly younger, but a few older ones as well. Some of the segments were brilliant in their raunchiness. I think my favorite one was the Hugh/ Kate segment. They were both great. Another hilarious segment was the one with Richard Gere and the one with Christopher Mintz Plasse... The storyline that brought it all together was great as well, with a very believable and charismatic Dennis Quaid but I don't want to give anything away. However... Don't hate me for saying that... I didn't care for Gerry's segment. I don't like blood and gore and that was the one segment with blood and a bit of gore... Plus I didn't think it was as clever and didn't have that great of a twist as some of the others. Gerry was good of course, though you have to get used to his computer modified voice. Though it clearly was him speaking and he definitely got the leprechaun accent down perfectly.... I didn't care much for his costars. But there were a couple of other segments that weren't up to par with the better ones. But all in all I enjoyed the movie a lot which I didn't expect. It was at times extremely clever with unexpected twists that made my jaw drop in shock several times. The movie is disgusting, shocking but also different, unpredictable (a rarity in Hollywood), well acted in most cases and really clever. At times it makes fun of social convention, it's really funny if you have an open mind...VERY open. is all I can say... My coworker enjoyed it as well. The audience reaction was great, lots of laughter.

Mary I can only recall that it was part of a movie review and this comment came out of the blue. I have no idea why Collins said it or his motive. At the time all I could think of was that he would not dare say that to Gerard's face. I genuinely feel that the UK broadsheet movie critics have a real issue with Gerard, his success in Hollywood and his apparent lack of desire to create a project to please them directly.
I would love OHF to get his mojo back in box office terms not just for his benefit but to annoy them.
By the way just enjoyed reading some old posts about the Cherry Orchard and noticed that the posters all seemed to really enjoy the movie and yet it is a movie I could never connect with and actually put me off Chekhov.
Interesting how some projects have totally differing effects on Gerard's fans.
I think in the end with Movie 43 the bottom line is that Gerard seems to have enjoyed himself.

And the reality is that word of mouth is better for a movie than millions spent on promotion as many people don't read what critics say they ask their friends did you see Movie 43 or their friends will say you have to see Movie 43 man it's hysterical
No one can be expected to like all movies of any artist everyone has their own tastes.
