It’s up to Gerry to figure out how he wants to moderate this stuff. He can hire people to help him and he has done so. As long as he avoids the sort of extremes he went through for 300 he should be fine. The fact that he relaxed for a while, avoided weight training and enjoyed eating his favorite meals should not be the big deal it’s turned into. He’s done the exact same thing many of us have done for the past couple of weeks. But being the restless guy he is I suspect he stayed active with skiing, golf and walking. It shouldn’t be too hard to ramp up and get in training again. And G has never set himself up as a fitness guru. In countless interviews he’s made it clear he works at staying in shape, struggles with his weight, and likes to eat. I’m sure he’s mortified as anyone would be by the brouhaha over his physique. And he has heard I’m sure. But it’s not the end of the world he got caught on a beach without his shirt on ether. He’s not Tiger Woods with his harem of cookie cutter porn stars. What’s infuriating is the fuss over a minor weight gain; I bet G is still within his proper weight range, I think our culture is dysfunctional on the subject of food and weight. And everyone at the blogs who’s bitching about it no doubt has lots of extra pudge around their middle. About the pink trunks: I don’t like them but they are so dorky they make me laugh. I like that “what the hell these will do” aspect to Gerry’s personality. Well said, I don't know about you all but I ate like a freakin' hog during the Christmas season and things have begun to jiggle a little. I have a message for Gerry, "Com-mon hot stuff, I say lets run away together and do some jiggling in the horizontal position...Vertical, sideways backwards, hell I don't care its all good. Anyway by the time I'm through with you you'll be as lean as turkey bacon! How about it...*looks around sneakily* call me.

I promise that these will be my last words on the topic of Barbados Gate!!!! ...but my disappointment is in G having bad judgement here. In Dubai he looked perfect and I am sure he didn't put on lbs in that short span of time (maybe a few more) but he shld not have put himself in the position to be photographed on a beach looking not like Gerard Butler. Face it he is known, famous more for his body and looks than his acting at this point in his career. That is a fact and he gets paid very well to keep that image. There r too many young men waiting in the wings to take his place so he MUST play the game no matter how shallow we think it is
I love Gerry!!! I love him no matter what size, shape... But his judgement was poor in this instance and he is paying the price!!!

I like that “what the hell these will do” aspect to Gerry’s personality. well said sophie. i really must agree whole heartily with all your points made. although i certainly understand prince's trepidation concerning gerry's 'star' image and 'younger men' waiting in the wings. but, lets continue to be honest here, gerrys future does, in fact, rely MORE heavily on his talented acting skills then his looks alone. it is this 'magical combination' of his looks, his skilled acting, his 'personality' & 'persona' along with his excellent business savvy which 'makes' him marketable! and - hollywood knows it, the audience knows it, gerry knows it... so, a little fluffy-flit of shite tossed around about some extra holiday baggage doesn't necessarily convey 'lack of judgment' in my opinion. gerry's not a machine....he's a human being perhaps caught up in mechanical genuflecting to keep PR peeps happy, but like prince said...this is what he gets paid for. it is the 'nature' of his work. i'd like to debate something else right about now.... ....what color should i wear when gerry asks me to join him at the gloden globes next week? black? or blue?...be nice.....

I guess we have given up hope that he will be on People Choices Awards but the Award show people are being very tight lipped about who is going to be on the show, I've only heard about a few musical guests and nothing at all about presenters. I just watched a video on the 300 workout - some guy from Access Hollywood tried it - yikes, definitely not made for me, I couldn't do one pushup or pull up to save my life, bwah. Jillian on Biggest Loser would make mince meat of me. www.accesshollywood.com/tony-potts-300-workout_video_1179541

I understand what you're saying Prince but we'll just have to agree to disagree on that point.
Tiger Woods & his porn stars? Bad judgment. Gerry on the beach in Barbados? Not so much. If he wants to have a long career he will have to be more then a sex symbol, Russell Crow may not be the hot sexy guy anymore but he has an Oscar at home. And if sexy guy is all that Gerry has to offer, that will fade real fast. He’ll end doing movies on Lifetime! I think Gerry wants more out of his career then being the sexy ab guy. And tabloids will always find ways to snark and feed on celebrities like Gerry no matter what they do. It’s the nature of the beast. Only Gerry is the one in the barrel right now.

Last year in Miami during New Year Gerry kept his shirt on and even was seen flipping off the Paps, now we know why.

I don't think Gerry should walk around in a burka if he gains a few pounds but if he had been tipped off about the paparazzi he probably would have headed to the pool instead of going to the beach. This is the sort of thing that could drive him into an eating disorder.

"300" was Gerry's breakout roll, the one that really got him noticed and I know he's grateful for the success, but I think he's tired about all the questions he [still] gets about his body in that role. Had Gerry kept up that physique, he would have only been pegged for action roles and, as Gerry even pointed out, he never wanted to do just action roles, he wanted to do it all, to challenge himself and have fun with his roles. I, for one, thought he looked sexy in those pics even with a little belly bulge, more of him to hug and I heard he gives great hugs.

He was so amazing in One More Kiss, The Jury, and Dear Frankie, where his physique wouldn't even have been an issue, but those films are often overlooked, and 300 remains his most noted role.
One of my friends on YT met him and got to hug him, and said how good he felt. She's so lucky!

What he ought to do is get ahead all this nonsense and make fun of it, hook up with one of his SNL pals to make a funny You Tube video, about “ belly gate." There is nothing sexier then a guy who can have some fun at own expense.

They all defended him. Here's a link to the video: www.msnbc.msn.com/id/21134540/vp/34746017#34746017I was on JustJared when I found this link... you want to talk about snarky comments, these people were cruel, especially the one called "Oy", he even made a cruel comment about another poster there because she mentioned she was a 44D. Saying that of course she supported his doughy physique and that she probably hoping to borrow one of his bras. Mean and spiteful! Here's my comment:

Good on Matt Lauer - I heard he said this is news? Really when you think about it, Gerry did not have six pack abs in 300, those were at least 12 pack abs and only competitive bodybuilders can sustain that kind of form. For the high end guys this is their job - they don't focus on anything else. Interesting article at GQ website - a guy who had done an interview with Gerry in 2007 and got to work out with him - GB was just starting to get into shape for Gamer - reprinted the interview in light of all the hoo ha about the Barbados picture: www.gq.com/blogs/the-q/2010/01/gerard-butlers-just-desserts.htmlInteresting too someone says they not only saw Gerry in Barbados but danced with him [lucky b****] and said he looked gorgeous and he was a sweetheart to paraphrase, p. 27 over at JJ. I can believe it. I think Gerry is one of those guys who as good as he looks in still photos he looks better on film and even better in person. Oh I love Barbados, trying to imagine which nightspot - all the happening spots are in St. Lawrence's Gap. I remember it fondly -on my second trip, I had three guys fighting over me one night along with a marriage proposal from one. Never happened to me before and never will again. Pretty sure though the guy with the marriage proposal was looking for a way into Canada, not into my heart.
