I hope you realise, Ladies, that the only reason for not commenting on POTO YET, is that once i start with it, you will never hear the end of it..... I was listening to the music on my PC this afternoon and during from the "Say you share with me...." he sings at the catwalk in PONR till the final " It's over now the music of the night!" my heart was aching...badly! If she hadn't been in love with what's his name and had chosen the phantom and minus the man that was killed....say that never happened because when she saw him in the first place....She said Hi Raulph....bye Raulph......Don't let the door hit you in the ass Raulph...... How do you think it would have worked out? Pure speculation.

I really can't see Christine chosing Erik/ Phantom. They could not have lived under the Opera, not with the whole mob chasing after Phantom. I guess that's why Phantom let her go.... Now, if the naive lassie hasn't a habbit of continuously de- masking poor Phantom they could have a life together, she as a Prima Donna and him as her secret tutor or even as a mystic Tenor as he proved in PONR....But then no tragedy would have struck and no tragedy, no play, no musical , no money....! ;D

I imagine them being a unique couple her the star and him her dark mysterious mentor. He messed everything up though in the end, poor love struck guy.
I cried at the end of the phantom (play). Did anyone see the movie for the first time and cry. Was Gerard performance as moving....Its hard for me to judge being it was actually the first time I say it. I would say Gerry gave the most smoldering performance.

Are you kidding me ? I watched and cried for at least the first 4-5 times ! And when we say crying, we mean crying my eyes out, especially at the final scene where Phantom sings to himself "Masquerade" in front of the monkey box, in such a childish, stunned way and then when he says "Christine i love you " and ....oh, don't let me start all over, you know very well what i mean. It's a movie so open to interpretations, though.....Especially in PONR scene there are so many things go on in stage, out of stage, so many glancses, gestures, signals........never knows where "Don Juan" the play ends and where starts the " Phantom and Christine" real duo... MARVELOUS, MARVELOUS STUFF !

I loved the story and the music but I didn't cry again after that first performance when I saw it on stage.
I wanted Christine to end up with the Phantom so bad.

I cry everytime I see the end. PONR is my favorite song in the film. Christine was crazy for going with Raoul. The Phantom gave his life to her. He mentored her and made her a great singer and she turned on him.

Hmmm...well that just seems weird.

You're right, it is weird. It just proves that he didn't belong there. Of course I think he was supposed to be french.

Agree, it sounds pretty Spanish yet his whole name was Raoul Vicomte de Chagny and he was a French noble, not British...

Woohoo! I got this film today! I am planning a Gerard marathon with the movies I managed to find in the past two weeks. (I also got Timeline today from Walmart.com for only seven dollars). Of course, just because I am planning it means it probably won't happen. Such is my life.
