This was quite a find and well worth it. Amazing that the film got made considering all the troubles they ran into with the weather conditions and the financing. Gerry was awesome and hot as per usual and you see a lot of him with and without the Beowulf wig. There are some extras (a couple of pics I won't be able to even put into Photobucket) and quite a lot of close ups of Gerry. Will post when I go through these, the one's for "One More Kiss" and "RocknRolla".

the first time i actually 'saw' gerry as an actor was in the tomb raider film. and on comes this rather interesting, silver haired, lean, good looking guy...i sat up and took notice and throughout this film i kept wondering 'where have the aussies kept this guy'?
the 2nd film i saw gerry in was beowulf & grendel on dvd...this is where i actually fell in love with his person and wanted to find out more about the actor and how the film was made. the insurmountable obstacles of mother nature taking to task this band of (artists) filmmakers & crew, yet they persevered and diligently completed what they set out to do. all the while, gerry (being totally immersed (mud& all) seemed inexhaustibly driven to give his very best for the good of all to make it work. he jokingly said 'suffer for his art' tongue in cheek...but, one can tell there was seriousness there. sort of like the two greek masks of theatre - one laughing the other crying.....
just love the time period, the panoramic views, the music, and esp. the scene where gerry donning a helmet shouting up to the troll pissing & fuming yet very funny, it was classic. this was the turning point.
great, great movie.

I love this synopsis of Wrath of Gods even though it is on that evil website that allows for illegal downloading of films including GB's more obscure stuff Many MANY years ago, being a dedicated Werner Herzog fan, I went to see the documentary, “Burden of Dreams” which was based on the many trials and tribulations of filming his incredible movie, “Fitzcarraldo” in the jungles of Peru. “Wrath of Gods” could be its Icelandic cousin. There seem to be certain films that fight against their creators. Their directors, crew, and cast must give all they have, and sometimes even a bit more, in order to see their dream realized. Indeed, there are moments during WOGs when the forced smile on director Sturla Gunnarsson’s face melts into something sad and desperate; those are among the most beautiful moments in this film, because that sadness and desperation added to the haunting (and I mean that in the most lovely and primal way) beauty of what became “Beowulf & Grendel”. There is no happy, storybook ending here; the film did poorly by Hollywood standards, but so what?! The film is ultimately true to the prose, true to the raging, frozen, breathtaking Icelandic landscape where it was filmed, and true to the tale of its anti-hero, Beowulf. It is almost an anti-Hollywood movie, and sometimes, who could ask for more than that? Thank you to the director of “Beowulf & Grendel”, Sturla Gunnarsson, to Jon Gustafsson, who filmed its filming, and to the extraordinary cast. Absolutely loved this movie. It has SOUL. I can’t believe what I’m seeing…a solid hour interview with Gerry Butler AFTER a grueling workday on the set. I’m amazed at his patience under the visible stress of an aching head and body after braving the Icelandic weather to shoot this revealing documentation. How much more can he do to show his appreciation for the support of his fans worldwide? His behavior speaks volumes about the depth of his character and his commitment to excellence and dedication as an actor. His star is definitely rising and he is indeed ‘paying his dues’…he is not afraid to shoulder the tough roles, transforming himself into a character in ways that startle directors and producers alike. When he signs on to play a role they can be assured of this: they will get much, much more than their money’s worth from the likes of this humble, towering Scotsman who has his feet planted solidly on the ground and who has restored the grandeur of moviemaking. Don’t look for his handsome face in the gossip rags as he’s rarely caught up in their sordid stories…he’s too mature to get swept up in their tasteless diatribes…he’s too busy concentrating on his career to cater to the crowded flashbulbs. The law profession lost an excellent attorney when he set his sights on becoming an actor; can’t you just see him in the courtroom making his case summarization! He’s stunning in a suit and tie but even better in his preferred ‘dressed-down’ look of an old tee shirt, old jeans and an old leather jacket – like in THE JURY film…go getum, Gerry. I may be old enough to be his mother, but I can hardly breathe when he’s on camera…go figure. kira3241449.homepartyhookup.com/2010/04/23/stream-wrath-of-gods-movie-online/

Watched the DVD again yesterday and the troubles that this production faced makes you realize what an achievement it was just to get the film made.
I still think it was profoundly dangerous to film on that sinking ship and all of the actors looked terrified as did the producers. Considering the chaotic events I was amazed how upbeat the actors seemed to be and considering the schedule it was admirable to have given that hour long plus interview after a long days shoot.
If you have not seen this I recommend this DVD highly.
Jude.

Could not believe my eyes tonight. I watched B&G and Wrath of God today. Canadia to his commitment to excellence. The first time I saw Gerry was POTO but not in the movies on DVD right around the time BH was starting to be filmed and TUT was coming out. That's me always late but I was so glad to get on the train.

Oh Ursi we all want sexy G to do movies like that if only wishes could make it so. If he made Vikings with Mel Gibson he would be in that type of movie. So hope they are talked about it. G would be such an imposing Viking.

WOG is incredible & really pulls your soul & heart. I loved B&G. G was breathtaking on the screen. His ability on screen is so ensnaring & amazing. He captures the character in essence & striking is his portrayal. This towering Scotsman is so earthly, you can feel the fire from him leap off the screen. He never fails to disappoint me. So thankful he became an actor. Don't give up the dream Gerry.

I love B&G and the way Gerry looks in this movie. I also love the documentary. Very revealing and wonderful to sit in on Gerry being himself. What a precious thing. Of course he was stuck in the middle of nowhere in Iceland. Hmmm.... the pickle packers need to kidnap him to a place like Iceland so he'll spend his time chatting to us on camera.
Can't imagine a better looking viking!

oh wow. so this was when gerard made B&W? you know girls i always thought these photos of G were extremely sexy bc there was a vitality, wild & wooley look. something extra special about him during this time. i wonder if it was the icelandic climate (even though he balked at the extremely bad conditions who wouldn't, really) or if it was perhaps the timing of all good things converging at once in his life??? either way...we'll take it! yes, yes and more yes...B&G total favorite little spot! and WOW....didn't know there was a facebook too?
