Hmmm...
A reading is usually a chance to get a feel for how it may go when it is staged. Plus a chance to show possible investors that it is worth backing the project financially. A reading in his home may have been a general reading to see how the play "feels" but it also could have been a chance for Neil to look at possible cast members.
I'm very curious about this. The cast is quite small for this so everyone would have fit in this apt. Also, by hosting this, he may have a advantage. Perhaps he's also thinking about throwing money into it as well.
But, it is important to remember that not everyone in a reading makes the final cast.
Fingers crossed for Gerry.

If I am not mistaken, this is a sequel to a previous play, so I imagine there must be some thought about continuity of characters. I sure hope our guy fit the mold, and we can look forward to some really amazing performances.
BTW, I actually have NO stories about back-door happenings after plays. I generally don't make an effort to meet cast members unless it is an event sponsored thru the cast.
But I DO have some great stories about attending the "Inside the Actor's studio" tapings. If any of you ever get a chance to go, they are awesome!!!! 3-4 hours of convo go into those 1 hour programs...it is utterly fantastic to have so much time to hear about how the actor sees his/her life and career.

I love that series KTG - I always thought there must be a lot that doesn't make the final cut. If you ever have the time to tell the stories, you've got an audience here!

I have emailed insider the Actor's Studio to have G on there but so far nada. I love the show & would love to go to taping. You are lucky. We should talk in the Off Topic section. Send me a message thru forum. Fifi & I both want to hear your stories & I am sure others will join.

There is also another play by Neil LaBute that is being revised. The Company of Men. www.profilestheatre.org/company_of_men.html . It may be worth considering a possibility as well as "Reasons to be Happy". In the Company of Men was also a movie, well received at Sundance 1997. Here is the trailer: companymenmovie.com/ Only second time posting. Hope I am doing it right. You already know I can't do tweeters...ha ha

Ha, it worked. The only thing about this play is the misogyny part. Gerry took heat for that in PFK and would hate to see that happen, but it is a good play from what I have read. I would love for him to do Broadway. A fine feather in his theatrical cap and well received first time around. The picture received the Independent Spirit Award for Best First Screenplay, the Filmmaker's Trophy at the 1997 Sundance Film Festival and The New York Film Critics Award for Best First Feature. Its controversy is rooted in the misogyny of its two main characters.

I'm confused Jessie. Are you talking about Gerry playing in In the Company of Men (Broadway) or The Company of Men, the movie which is already out? Gerry auditioned for Reasons to be Happy by Neil LaBute which will be opening at about the same time as In the Company of Men.

Sorry, I didn't know it was determined that "Reasons to be Happy" was the play that Gerry auditioned for. Hadn't read that. I merely posted the trailer of "The Company of Men" as a synopsis of the story line and to show that it was a successful play and movie and a consideration as another choice as I posted.

How does it work if an off Broadway play goes on to Broadway? The current dates are set off Broadway. I heard the first play went on to Broadway. Would Gerry have to commit to a longer period of time if it moves on to Broadway?
I would love to come to NYC and see him in the play if he does it. Just wondering how it all works in the theater world. I have no clue.

Dawne You bet I am sooooooooo excited about this. Love NYC, my son has to go every time he comes from TX even if it has nothing to do with work. Here is the other exciting thing for me Eric Schwartz (Gerry will portray him in Thunder Run) is an instructor at the US Army War College in Carlisle PA which is less then a 1/2 hour from where I live.

Usually these stars appear for a limited run and then someone else well known will take over. Yes, there have been plays that have started off Broadway have gone to Broadway. Right now Jessica Chastain is playing in The Heiress on Broadway which will end on Feb. 10th.
