Beacon....
Love Patrick too! He was well known for his skills on Broadway long before he became known in film. Such a shame that his TV show didn't work out. I really enjoy watching him work. He always seems sooooo professional, and if I remember right, he was chosen for Phantom (the film) because of the incredible voice he developed in live theatre.
am....
I think Jessica is an outstanding actress and I was so happy to see her nominated. I am really hoping this Broadway thing works out for our Mr B. The idea of him doing live performance really excites me. I have a feeling maybe it excites him too!!

This would be such a fantastic opportunity for Gerry! Hugh Jackman and Daniel Craig were in a 2-man play called Rain a couple of years ago. Jessica Chastain, Dan Stevens (Downton Abbey) and David Straithern are playing in The Heiress on Broadway until February. Julia Roberts will be appearing in a television series as well. A lot of stars are looking into all sorts of options. I know several years ago Gerry was asked to do Shakespeare in the Park in NYC but he wasn't free at that time but said if he were he would like to do it someday. Gerry's first acting jobs were in theater and he sounds excited to be possibly returning. A regular job working in theater and living in NYC would be pairfect for him at this time. I'm so excited because I can see him multiple times on stage!

So, would the play be expected to debut in the fall of 2013 or the beginning of 2014? I also agree, would be great for him. Hi! This production is scheduled to begin previews on May 16 for a June 23 opening at the Lucille Lortel Theatre. "Since the average time of rehearsals for a play is 3 months I think we should hear an announcement of the cast by the end of February and rehearsals should start soon after that to get ready for that preview on May 16th. He may even do a 6 month run ending in December 2013. I really don't think he would take off more than 6 months from making movies.

A limited run could be for a chunk of months (3 or so) any time during that period. And, you can attend performances during the previews period as well before it officially opens. Doing that is fun because it's still in development so going during previews and after it opens you can see what changes they made to the production.
However, remember, mounting a Broadway production takes time, money, etc. just like a film...and the cast members' schedules can impact start times, too.
Some times the schedule of obligations runs really tight for the cast. The night of the last performance of "All My Sons" Katie Holmes left the theater with Suri in tow and went straight to a town car which took them to a heliport to take them to a private jet that took them to LA for her to join her then-husband Tom Cruise for after parties at the Golden Globes. The last show was a Sunday matinee so they go out of the theater before 6pm.
I was there that night and the usual crush of paparazzi were at the stage door barricades. I was completely amazed by the stampede they made as soon as Katie and Suri got in the car. The were racing to their own rides to get to the heliport. I was nearly mowed over by a few of them. All I could think was "poor Suri."
Speaking of stage doors. If Gerry does Broadway and the crowds are insane for him, they will restrict his interaction at the stage door for safety's sake. Those barricades aren't bolted down and it's easy to topple them over when the crowd has gotten unruly. And, if another theater on the block has a show letting out at the same time, it can be a real mess...
The next-to-the last performance of Gypsy starring Patti LuPone, the crowd was at least 6 deep on both sides and then spilled out into the streets. I wondered how folks go to/leavingt Angus McIndoe's next door were dealing with the wall of humans in front of that restaurant. I didn't even both staying to watch the cast come out. I was off to Juniors for Cheesecake!
Kissthegirl may have adventures to share as well about stage doors.

It would be great if Gerry returned to acting in theater, of course, this kind of work requires great sacrifices, and concentration, hard work of preparation, study. He needs total concentration and dedication to work. Requires a daily commitment. I'm sure Gerry has a lot of talent, and surely the theater is the place to stand out. Does anyone know what kind of script is it? Dramatic or Comedy? I hope dramatic I'm really happy for Jessica, she deserve it I hope she will wins

It's about relationships. It's a companion piece to his previous play "Reasons to be Pretty." Tony-nominated playwright Neil LaBute will revisit the ill-fated lovers of Reasons to Be Pretty, Steph and Greg, in a new companion play, Reasons to Be Happy. Written and directed by LaBute, the MCC Theatre production will run off-Broadway at the Lucille Lortel Theatre May 16, 2013 through June 23. Opening night is set for June 2. Casting for Reasons to Be Happy will be announced shortly. Reasons to Be Happy begins three years after a contentious break-up, with Steph and Greg wondering if they can make a fresh go of it. Trouble is, she’s married to someone else and he’s just embarked on a relationship with Steph’s best friend, Carly, a single mom whose jealous ex-husband, Kent, has trouble articulating his feelings. Navigating the rocky landscape of conflicting agendas and exploding emotions isn’t going to be an easy task for any of them. Reasons to Be Pretty premiered off-Broadway at the Lortel in June 2008, starring Piper Perabo as Carly, Alison Pill as Steph, Thomas Sadoski as Greg and Pablo Schreiber as Kent. The play won the Broadway.com Audience Choice Award for Favorite New Off-Broadway Play and later transferred to Broadway’s Lyceum Theatre, opening on April 2, 2009. Pill and Schreiber were replaced for the Broadway run by Marin Ireland and Steven Pasquale, respectively. The show went on to receive three Tony nominations including Best Play. full article: www.broadway.com/buzz/165869/reasons-to-be-happy-neil-labutes-companion-piece-to-reasons-to-be-pretty-to-premiere-off-broadway/

I know very little about LaBute but he seems from what I have read on the internet to write dark comedies and character based pieces. Interesting to see the familier names that have croped up in his works on stage such as Aaron Eckhart, Eric McCormack, Judy Reyes and Maura Tierney.

I think this sounds like such an incredible project for Gerry. He would be so good in it. He has an incredible voice and talent. He can inject so much emotion in his voice and face. I think this is a winner for him. I sure hope he does it. It would be challenge he would enjoy. It will be hard work with doing the play several times a day. But he will be rewarded by the audience response and the satisfaction of a job well done. Excellent news - I sure hope it is a go.

Gerry is a people's person and I am sure he will get so much back when he is performing in front of an audience. I have been doing ballet and other forms of dance since I was a child and up to a few years ago, I still participated in performances. There is no bigger thrill than locking eyes with a member of an audience while performing and realise that for that moment there is nothing else in their world but you and your performance, that they are totally into you and enjoying what you are doing. When you receive the response the moment you are giving your performance, this is extremely rewarding. The adrenaline is pumping. Not to mention when you take your bow or when they tell you how much they enjoyed the performance. Gerry loves acceptance and is a people pleaser, so going back to basics and performing at the theatre will be a huge kick for him. There is one I am confused about. When he said he had to do the reading in front of the writer, do you think he meant he had to audition?
