That's an inteview on ELLE ( November) . It was in a "quartet" under the title "Fantastic Four" and it presented the 4 marvellous guys, the new movies of which, are expected to rock the theaters worldwide. For every inadequency put the blame on my poor translation, not Gerard ! ;D
Rock with me, Baby!
He’s the man who, two years ago, made the entire Hollywood and the rest of the planet speaking about him, his intense eyes and the line of his that made history in 21st century’s cinema. He yelled “This is Sparta” to the Persians on screen, overwhelming the theaters with the hot, burning metal of his voice and making the women around the world, impatiently awaiting his next role- preferably one with a lot of close-ups. “Gerry is an amazing mixture of charm and danger” said Guy Richie, the director of his new movie “Rocknrolla”. The famous script writer and director is coming back to his familiar, intricate style of his older movies, signing a new film full of black humor, sex, crime, and rocknroll. Gerard Butler is the head of Wild Bunch, a wannabe mobster group, which wishes to enter the real estate field, a field where a lot of billions are in risk and the whole underworld of London is clashing, intriguing and making conspiracies in order to rule.
Here, in Gerard’s own words, is the movie itself, his character and his career, just before the movie will be released on cinemas – as the first part of a Guy Ritchie trilogy.
ELLE:
What did you think when you first read the script ?
GERARD BUTLER:
When I’m reading a script for the very first time, I always go on my instinct. If on first reading I’m having fun and looking forward to see what happens next, then the project is definitely worthy. This happened with “Rocknrolla” : I read the script, loved the characters and the plot and I said “yes”.
ELLE :
The audience loved a particular scene, where you dance a little bit clumsy with Thandie Newton, who’s portraying an accountant wishing to take part in the “big game”. Did you play the scene on impulse ?
G.B.
Partially, yes! We discussed the scene for a while with Guy Richie and then we did the filming on spontaneous acting. The director’s instruction was “Dance without dancing”, so the result was sort of funny. Actually the script isn’t very clear about OneTwo’s - my character - dancing skills. For anything that happened in that scene I blame Guy !
ELLE:
Is the name “ OneTwo” an ironic reference on his non-existent dancing skills ?
GB:
No, it’s probably a reference on his eagerness to use his fists!
ELLE:
Yet you also have some other dancing scenes, and one of them – particularly liked by the audience, too – was called “gay”….Which one do you enjoyed the most ?
GB:
It was quite funny for me to have to pretend the clumsy dancer I front of the most gorgeous woman I’ve ever seen, Thandie, still yes, I prefer dancing with a woman, even clumsy, than with a man…..
ELLE:
When you read the script initially, were you sort of afraid about this gay scene with Tom Hardy?
GB:
In the original script, the one I read, this particular scene didn’t existent at all. Tom, who plays the Handsome Bob, added it, because it fitted to the character of the hero, OneTwo’s partner. It was such a big success though, that Guy gave it more time. Luckily enough we just danced and we didn’t had to kiss each other as well!
ELLE:
In which terms do you chose the roles you are willing to play? Are there certain things you wish for doing in your career?
GB:
I haven’t got a plan in my mind. Besides, my roles are so different from each other. Perhaps i was attracted in this particular role by the comic element: OneTwo considers himself as the mobster -hero, yet he isn’t as courageous as he thinks to be…… I like to confront my own delusions, yet the audience has to have a good time in my movies, as well. Every each character you play has a different aim, according to what you want to do in each particular phase of your life.
