I don't care for James Franco at all even with all his degrees. I don't think he's attractive in the least. Second time now this has happened just before filming. I hope insurance covers the half million. What in the world will Gerry be doing now? He's got way too much time on his hands which always spells trouble. Now I'm wondering what will happen with Thunder Run...and what about all those other movies Gerry was going to star in? This really stinks!! Could be a diva move on the part of Franco, directing is still new to this guy but he still wanted to do the film on his terms with his people. Or maybe he got cold feet and decided he couldn't pull off the project. If they start filming Thunder Run this Summer, it looks like Matthew McC. may have to drop out since he is doing a movie with Christopher Nolan- Interstellar which is slated to start filming this summer. I keep hoping Gerry has something new that is just not announced yet.

Gerry was to produce The Garden of Last Days, which James Franco was going to direct and star in the film. Gerry was not part of the cast. James Franco has now dropped out of the project and that is what the article I posted was reporting. This was to be a full length movie, I think Guilty Hearts that you are referring to was a number of movie "shorts". That would have been a win for Gerry. What a shame. That would have have catapulted him to be such a force HW. I still have hope. Perhaps this will bring him back in a hurry from Europe to look for a director, so it won't be totally dead in the water. Maybe he could also takeover Franco's role...who knows anything is possible.

He has the talent to direct...I worked on a set with him (behind the camera) and he came up with two great solutions to technical problems the director was having. It was a night shoot and he very politely made some suggestions that helped the scene so much.
Gerry, you can do this! Take over for Franco and do the directing you've always wanted to do!!! In his own words "Why not me?"

That is a real shame that J Franco pulled out at such a late date. I hope he doesn't get hired to direct after acting like this. It's not a big budget movie. Why does he need certain crews and if he does, why not say that up front before he signs on for the project?
I hope Gerry finds some great projects to produce and act in this year. He deserves it!

If Gerry decides to direct this movie, he's need time to get ready for the shoot. It depends how long the delay is. He's too old for the actress in the movie. Well, in my opinion..not in his life apparently. It also depends if it can get going in time for him to do a project in the autumn if he has one ready to go then like he mentioned. That's also a rumor he put out there himself.
What a mess....just seems to never end for Gerry. I feel for him.

Hope and pray if they chose to, who ever they get to replace Franco will be available, immediate, and even more capable. But if they have to cancel, I'd rather that than something that is slapped together in attempts to save bank and face. I don't blame them rejecting Franco hiring "associates" that they don't know or trust. One or two of them in lesser positions, fine, more than that, forget it. Why risk being sued by a bunch of unknown, unbonded whoevers if they were fired, got hurt, or got someone hurt on set/location? That's labor laws logic. Never mind what kind of impact their inexperience or unproven work ethic could have on production itself. If this had to happen, best this happens now than during production.
((MY UNGROUNDED OPINION, MY UNSOLICITED SUGGESTION, MY ULTIMATE WISH, I wish he'd come back to the states sooner rather than later, off-/on-again in tow or no. I'm glad he was able to unwind for such a long time, but I would love for him to come back and INFUSE BOTH HIS MANAGEMENT AND PRODUCTION TEAMS WITH SOME NEW BLOOD/TALENT AND A BUUUUUNCH OF IDEAS/SCRIPTS/DEFINED GOALS. Get them focused on actually PROGRESSING/EXECUTING Burns' biopic, Bruce's story, hell, do Bob the Builder's, doesn't matter. Meanwhile, he can be getting his face-to-face, hands-on hustle back out here on the industry's fickle streets. I know, he can use phones, emails, skype, etc. Not the same. Not gonna get much done if it's wake-up time where he is but it's closing time here. Remember, my statements are for entertainment purposes only!)) **************************************************************************************************************************************** "And this I pray: that your love may abound yet more and more and extend to its fullest development in knowledge and all keen insight, that your love may display itself in greater depth of acquaintance and more comprehensive discernment, so that you may surely learn to sense what is vital, and approve and prize what is excellent and of real value, recognizing the highest and the best, and distinguishing the moral differences, and that you may be untainted and pure and unerring and blameless...with hearts sincere and certain and unsullied..."

James Franco has an intellectual vibe going on, at least some media likes to promote him that way...but to me he always came across as a fake. Yesterday I checked his twitter account twitter.com/JamesFrancoTV to see if he said something about a movie he was going to film in two weeks time (The Garden of course)...and all I saw were the pleads for donations for his other film. He even has an online campaign, but it seems like a high-school project, maybe charming but so unprofessional.... After this stunt, I'm not so sure he's going to reach his goal...

The book author Andre Dubus still has hope in Gerry that the film will be made with a new director... www.newburyportnews.com/local/x1145374032/Star-actor-backs-out-of-movie-based-on-local-authors-bookHollywood star James Franco has backed out of directing and starring in a movie based on a book by local writer Andre Dubus III. Franco was slated to start working this summer on a movie based on the best-selling novel “The Garden of Last Days’’ by Dubus, who grew up in Haverhill and now lives in Newbury. But yesterday, it was announced that Franco was pulling out of the project. Dubus said Franco’s decision had to do with “artistic differences.’’ Dubus said he is hopeful the company looking to make the movie will find a replacement for Franco, allowing the film to eventually happen. “These things happen when you’re trying to make a feature film,’’ Dubus said. “But I hold out hope that the producer, Gerard Butler, and his partners will still get this made. The script by Hanna Weg is really strong, which is what essentially gives me faith this movie will make it to the big screen.’’ Franco has starred in several major motion pictures, most recently as the title character in “Oz the Great and Powerful,” with Michelle Williams and Mila Kunis. “The Garden of Last Days’’ was to be the second of Dubus’ books to be made into a movie. In 2003, Ben Kingsley and Jennifer Connelly starred in the movie version of Dubus’ best-selling novel “House of Sand and Fog.’’ There has also been talk in literary and Hollywood circles that his best-selling memoir “Townie’’ — the story of him growing up on the tough streets of Haverhill — will also be made into a movie. “The Garden of Last Days’’ is based on the terrorist events of Sept. 11, 2001. In it, Dubus tells the tale of a man who plans to hijack a plane. Dubus spins in the hijacker’s personal relationships, including with an exotic dancer, before the terrorist plot unfolds. Dubus said he began writing “The Garden of Last Days’’ in 2005, after reading a story about the terrorist hijackers — and how one of them was rumored to have visited a strip club in the days before the attacks. Dubus wanted to give the hijacker a voice and tell his side of the story. Dubus spent months researching the events of Sept. 11. He read the Koran twice for an understanding of Islam, and he read other sources including the history of Egypt and of Saudi Arabia, even books about strip clubs — 33 books in all, he said. “The tough part was how to write from his (the hijacker’s) point of view without judgement,” Dubus said. “As Ernest Hemingway said, ‘The job of the writer is not to judge, but to seek and understand.’ “When the book came out in 2008, I don’t think the reading public was ready to step into the point of view of one of these terrorists,” Dubus said of “The Garden of Last Days.’’ “I think now that we’re more curious about what causes this kind of madness.’’ Dubus said he is working on a new novel and that his latest book — a collection of short stories titled “Dirty Love’’ — will be released in October.

Why not Gerry's long time friend, Ariel Vromen, who directed "The Iceman". ? I thought the same thing when they announced Franco bailed...Not sure of his schedule, though.

James Franco is in London making a movie right now...the same time he should have been doing Gerry's movie. There is no way Gerry didn't know about James pulling out of this film way before it was announced to the public. They must have decided not to announce it until right before he was going to be seen filming in London. It's a shame James isn't acting professional.

This is the movie that James Franco is now filming in London. And it looks like there was a filming conflict, what is interesting the film in London is a Millennium Film:
Makes you wonder.

Franco's DIRECTORIAL debut was also with them, since "As I Lay Dying" was presented at Cannes in 2012. He was in "Iceman," Vromen's vehicle released earlier this year. He's also featured in "Lovelace," a Millennium flick due out. Franco is no stranger to Lerner or Millennium.
