A different article on Gerry's career so far. Ok, I know I am VERY biased to Gerry, but I still disagree with a lot of statements in this article. Well, Ladies, you be the Judges... www.wordsole.com/?p=1209

Well, Ladies, you be the Judges... www.wordsole.com/?p=1209Thanks Jeanie for posting this, some I agreed with some I didn't. Ten lashes to the writer for not seeing Rock-n-Rolla. One movie I agree with is Bounty Hunter... I really didn't like it. I am also glad that the writer kept their comments about gender crap to themselves with 300. 300 was an awesome movie! It was, what it was and it certainly gave decent eye candy for men and woman (SQUEEEEEEEEE!) as well as tons of action. Love these kind of discussion threads Jeanie!

I think that the person who wrote this article should be shot! (not literally, of course) I disagree about what he/she said (mostly). I think that everyone of us has his/hers diferent point of view about Gerry's movies. But to practically spit on most of them...

God bless her for having seen Dear Frankie and not trashing PSILY. Shame on her for having not seen The Jury or OMK. I do realize that these movies she included are most of his mainstream performances, but several of his best performances were overlooked (and I'd include RocknRolla in that list).
Someone left me a comment once that said something along the lines of Gerard is someone "you either get or you don't". WE obviously get him, while SHE obviously doesn't. I really feel it's that simple.

How many other actors have played so many different roles, and pulled it off? We may not love all of the characters, but you can't knock Gerry for playing the various characters well. Isn't that what makes a great actor? Many actors just play the same guy over and over again. I have movie nights with my friends, and they still have to look twice to see that the Phantom is the same guy as One-Two. And when I point out that is Gerard Butler, they have said 'Who?", but now know that they've loved his performances over the years. They just didn't realize that it was Gerry every time. Can anyone ever say that about Leo DiCaprio, or Mel Gibson, os some of the other guys who've been around? Can't wait to see Coriolanus, or MGP, and ehatever comes next.

Isn't that what makes a great actor? Many actors just play the same guy over and over again. I couldn't agree more. Gerry is so well-rounded, he can do all these caracters so well. Yes, I'll admit, even if I am VERY biased when it comes to Gerry, he's done some movies that weren't so great, including Bounty and Reign of Fire, but he did his part well, and that's what I like about him. He a great actor and is capable of doing so many different things. When I saw the article I knew there would be some of the Phantom supporters in here that wouldn't like what she wrote about it. That comment really shocked me...No, it isn't my favorite movie of Gerry's, and no his singing wasn't like a trained professionals, but his acting was superb, and Gerry's Rock N Roll voice is wonderful in my ears. can you say Gerrygasm? I know the soundtrack by heart, for crying out loud! And the rooftop scene, was just fantastic. @ Steph. I was also disappointed to see that OMK and The Jury were missing in the article. Some of his best work, imo. And what about LAC? Yes, she definitely doesn't get Gerry. Well, her loss. I will admit, though, that I agree with her last statement...Leonidas is looking pretty far away...I have big hopes in Coriolanus and MGP, especially MGP which will hopefully let Gerry show his real talent again. Because we all know that he's got it...

I had to leave her a comment. Her "review" pissed me off too much.
"I think all your shut ups should be directed at yourself. For you to talk about Dear Frankie like it’s anything other than a brilliant movie is beyond reason to me. Hating Phantom? Seriously? There must not be a sexy, romantic bone in your body. The Ugly Truth was hilarious; I would suggest you see RocknRolla but you would probably only put it down as well. Too bad you don’t “get” Gerard Butler’s talent and brilliance. Which is fine. More for those of us who know how to appreciate a true actor."

I can't believe she didn't like Timeline; that movie was excellent! Not very happy with her in regards to her comments regarding POTO. A putz??? Are you kidding??? He looked sexy as hell as the Phantom. She skipped over not just The Jury and OMK, she also skipped Beowulf and Grendel, The Game of Their Lives, and Attila, all good movies IMHO. RocknRolla was the funniest movies I've seen, I loved everything about it. I have to admit, there have been some duds in his career like Shooters and I only liked his part in Gamer, could have done without the Society bits, though I know why they were in there. I liked his role as Clyde in LAC, he gave a bone-chilling performance. I thought TBH was cute and he looked really sexy in that white towel (only two weeks left and I can capture the screenshots from that gem of a scene). I'm glad she didn't mention Nim's Island, I'm actually scared what she would have thought about that one. canuckeh: I agree with you in regards to those actors who play the same type of characters in each film; two I can think of - one I love and laugh at and the other I cringe) - Hugh Grant (he's so funny that I am willing to forgive him for playing the same role, the bumbling love interest) and Tom Cruise (cringe!! He always seems to play the same type of character, I can't stand the man and won't go to see any of his films).

If you are going to critique a career you do need to see all the films or you are making an assessment on half of the facts. She is however correct in that TBH was a very wrong turn and TUT was risky. A lot of his 300 fanbase is not happy with the romcoms at all, Gamer and LAC helped with that fanbase but he has to be careful not to lose that fanbase, mostly men, Gerry is indeed at cross roads in his career.
Unless you are a teenage actor in vampire movies you need to appeal to both men and women to have success at the box office for a sustainable period of time.
When he took the Bounty Hunter he may not have realized that LAC and TUT were going to make that choice look like a big step backwards, he can't take roles for the " fun of it" right now because he's at that crossroad IMO. If he makes the right moves as we all think he is so far this year, then it will put him into that next level and then he can make movies for the fun of it but they are too expensive and Hollywood is so fickle you have to keep a good momentum going. Now as it turns out TBH did better than anyone expected because of the aggressive and expensive PR campaign which sadly included the constant romance and now baby rumours and the fanbases of both actors. Which is lucky for what I hate to say is a below average rom com and rom coms are not held that high in critical esteem as it is. So once again Gerry is lucky because his numbers are not impacted negatively.

I think we all have our opinion about every movie Gerry has made. You like some, and some of them you don't like. That's normal. Yes, I do think TBH should have NOT been filmed, I really don't like R'n'R, I wasn't so much impressed with B&G,... some people do say that TUT & PSILY (rom coms) are "the big step backwards", but THAT is why I really appreciate this man - he's done so many different role so far (from romantic guys, historic characters, tough guys, to unnatural creatures). And at the end of his life he could be proud of his contribution to the World of Film... We certainly ARE...even now, and there is still a long way to go...

Check out her Tweet reaction to our posts: Beth Hicks bethhicks0518 Six comments on my blog post about Gerard Butler. All of them calling me, in one way or another, an idiot. Is this how real critics feel? That's an interesting assessment of what we wrote. Still, I thought most people who "blogged" understood that what they wrote may receive criticism. This is a Gerard Butler message board for heaven's sake. Of course we're not going to agree with a lot of what she said. That comes with the territory. Regardless, our opinions were remarkably objective considering. We all recognize that some of Gerry's movies are better than others, and that he needs to be more discerning in choosing his future movie roles.
