The reality is that was a highly successful movie and soundtrack and that is because a whole lot of people did love the singing and that is all Gerry needs to remember. Because POTO fans are fickle and even if you may not have won them all over you won over a lot and you brought in a lot of new fans to POTO. One of my best friends, who has exquisite taste, has to watch POTO with Gerry at least once a month or she has withdrawal and she is not otherwise a fan of Gerry or not especially, okay she loved Attila and had to buy the DVD, but anyway, she is more a fan of POTO and that film. He brought me into the world of Phantom of the Opera because of his portrayal of The Phantom and his singing.

Latest on Consent to Kill Author Vince Flynn talks 'American Assassin,' movie[/u] October 30th, 2010 12:16 pm ET Toronto - Best-selling American author Vince Flynn appeared in Toronto to promote his latest novel, sign copies of the book and ask questions from the audience. Flynn touched upon the Mitch Rapp character, an upcoming motion picture and other issues. On Friday, the multiple time New York Times best-selling author, Vince Flynn, appeared at the Indigo bookstore in the Manulife Centre in downtown Toronto to promote his latest book “American Assassin” and to sign copies of the political thriller. The novelist, who has written 12 books and has been a story consultant to the hit television series, “24,” discussed his book, how much the Mitch Rapp character has transformed his life and the upcoming motion picture. Flynn began to write this series of novels because he realized the serious threat that the rise of Islamic fundamentalism has to the United States and the rest of the world, which he feels is not “going away anytime soon.” He also alluded to numerous occasions that Islamic extremism played a role in. According to Flynn, who is a frequent guest on Glenn Beck’s television program, Mitch Rapp, the central character in Flynn’s novels, the ultimate goal in the books is “to get them before they get us.” Despite the success of his novels, Flynn never expected to have his books read by political figures, including former United States Presidents Bill Clinton and George W. Bush. Also many people in law enforcement and the military, says Flynn, consider themselves to be a Mitch Rapp. The book is planning to be made into a motion picture. However, there have been many delays due to complications by the distributors and producers. There have also been a number of re-writes (5) and one was written by “Shooter” screenwriter Jonathan Lemkin. Antoine Fuqua is attached to direct but there is a long list of actors wanting to play the character of Rapp, including Gerard Butler, Eric Bana, Bruce Willis, John Hamm, Matthew Fox and Christian Bale: “In the next two weeks, a Scottish actor will be contacted.”
When asked if he would prefer a no-name actor, Flynn responded positively and said he would prefer that because then moviegoers can really get to know the unique character of Rapp and not the actor. Flynn noted that he has no say in the casting, similar to so many authors who have their books adapted into motion pictures.[/i] “American Assassin” was released on Oct. 12 and is number one on the New York Times bestsellers list. www.examiner.com/headlines-in-toronto/author-vince-flynn-talks-american-assassin-movieInterview on Laura Ingraham I am going to work on a transcript of the interview that pertains to Consent to Kill

Interview of Vince Flynn on Laura Ingraham Show[/u] October 29, 2010 Flynn is as noted in the previous article promoting his new No. 1 Best seller in the Rapp series, American Assassin which is a prequel about how Mitch got into the CIA in the first place. First transcript of just the pertinent portion: 7:32 mark LI: Isn’t Consent to Kill, you got the book optioned right? VF: We, ah, got the fifth re-write of the screenplay, they’ve done the location scouting, we’re almost..I mean Gerard Butler is at the top of the deal, followed by Bruce Willis and a few other really good actors. I am thinking next week we might have some good news.[/i] LI: Oh great I can’t wait to find out about that , don’t you have a poll on your website about who should play Rapp... VF: We do- these events have been so crazy lately that it’s the No. 1 thing people want to know and start screaming names at me so we put a button up there and said go there and tell us who you think should be Mitch Rapp. LI. There’s got to be someone. There are not many very masculine male actors I mean.... VF: That’s the problem.... LI You are limited, there are a lot of girly men- like the Orlando Bloom-izaton of masculinity, they are all hairless dogs.... VF: Here is the other problem. I was told a couple of weeks ago it has to be an American actor LI: wow. VF: And I said to the powers that be at CBS, LI. Who? VF: I said, there aren’t any other than Bruce Willis and he is probably a little too old. I’ve always though it is going to be an Australian, a Scot or an Irishman for this reason, they weren’t raised in a polictically correct culture, they don’t care what Susan Sarandon or Sean Penn is going to say or not, they just want to get paid, drink some beer and met some babes and you know what, more power to them. LI: It’s almost like you just need to find a real military guy to do it - just turn him into an actor, almost better to do it that way then try to find a really masculine actor that don’t for the most part exist unless Vince Vaughan can lose 40 pounds and get really in shape and lose the smart alec attitude, he would be pretty good, but he’s really fat... VF: He’s mushroomed up again LI I like him though VF: He’s hilarious [laughing] but there are guys like Eric Bana, Gerard Butler[/i], I think Jon Hamm, he’s another guy who is interesting, one of the few Americans that is ready to do something like this. LI: Big liberal. Huge. [yadda yadda] Not sure he would be convincing. [my note that is why it is called acting Laura] So I sounds like Flynn doesn't think it needs to be an American actor but CBS does? Not sure what he means by Gerard Butler is on top of the deal............. The interview is here www.lauraingraham.com/mediabits Bestselling author Vince Flynn - October 29, 2010 The relevant bit is 7:32 - 9:32 The poll Vince Flynn is referring to is here www.vinceflynn.com/Who_Should_Play_Mitch_Rapp.htmlThe top nominees will be put into a poll later.

Thanks Canadia!
I really don't get this fixation with an American actor. A good actor is a good actor and they should be more focused on who can bring the audiences to the theatres. Besides Gerry is a chameleon actor who can leave "Gerard Butler" at the door of the set and really be any character the director and the producers want him to be.
Not to mention that no one beats Gerry when it comes to promoting a film. He managed to convince audiences that TBH was a half decent film and it turned it into a success.! :-)
In fact I gave all these reasons when I voted and I hope someone listens.
My guess is that a lot of people involved in this production would have chosen Bruce Willis if they were making the film 10-15 years ago. So now they are looking for the next Bruce Willis and I believe Gerry fits into this category: good looking in a masculine way, earthy looks not like Brad Pitt), tanscending a bit of humour in his roles as well, even the serious ones, popular with both men and women, younger and older audiences. I believe if he were American the part would have been his a long time ago. But somehow some studio head decided that he/she wants an American actor and now there is probably a lot of debate and power games.
Let's hope we find out in the next two weeks.
Although to be honest, this islamic fundamentalism theme doesn't sound too exciting, it's been beaten to the ground by now. And I don't think it helps the relationship between different cultures if we perpetuate certain stereotypes. I am a huge fan of 24 but it got to a stage when I was tired of the "islamic threat". Come to think of it, if Gerry does this film and having done MGP too, he will need bodyguards. :-)

Well fans of the novels may feel Mitch Rapp is an American hero and that an actor from another country is not quite up to snuff though since the author doesn't mind why would anyone else though you do have that issue of accent.

I agree, I'm not a big fan of the politics of Consent to Kill either, but this movie could be the main stream hit Gerry needs in between all his indie movies, and he could really let loose playing such a man's man. The director Antoine Fuqua seems to be an interesting guy and it could potentially turn out to be a great espionage/ thriller/ action flick. I think they really could use Gerry's looks in that and the fact that he is a chameleon. When he goes undercover in the middle east the thick, longer hair and beard will be perfect. I also read that Mitch uses a false identity as business man in the western world, and Gerry can do that easily with his hair brushed back and clean shaven. My concern is though that he really has to master the US accent. People will not be forgiving of that. Both Gerry and voice coach Jerry Butler have their work cut out for them. I think even when he's off Gerry is working on the accent because the Scottish accent was much lighter when we heard Gerry talk in Michigan a few weeks ago.
There is a website I think it's called "thirdoption.net" something like that for fans of the book and even they voted for Gerry to play Mitch.

I have done a lot of independent research on Al Queda and Islamist terrorist groups, well people argue whether Hamas and Hezbollah fit the bill, even Sein Fein is now a political party, which proves violent means can work eventually. So I can see all the Flynn novels being up my alley. I think you can separate out the politics of left and right because people on both sides acknowledge that Islamist terrorists are a threat and in particular Al Queda because Bin Laden was able to forge an almost global shadowy network which is where Al Queda is different, taking it to the next level because Bin Laden figured out a way to get different Islamist groups who historically hate each other to work together. The irony is that Bin Laden effectively used and uses the very rights and freedom of speech we have in the west along with the technology of the west like the internet to propagate his message, the very things he abhors about the West and would shut down if he and his ilk had total control. Of course I refer to Bin Laden more figuratively than literally as I am not altogether convinced he is still alive. A recent documentary around the anniversary of 9-11 indicated the intelligence community is split on the issue.
People may disagree on the whys and how to deal with the issue but everyone acknowledges it is an issue, it is a threat, it exists, Democrats and Republican both and it is certainly a big part of the CIA agenda in real life and even in Canada. We have a trial going on. I think the first guy got sentenced, did he plea out, 16 years. Canadians like to think because we are perceived as nicer we won't be a target but we are infidels to the extremists, so it doesn't matter which is something many people just don't get. To hear these guys were scouting Toronto landmarks for possible targets, very creepy, but New Yorkers know that first hand.

Just an up-date on the casting of The Hobbit, I know Gerry was never rumored to be in the film but I was hoping he would be. Here's the cast listed so far. Martin Freeman Graham McTavish Richard Armitage Michael Fassbender (in talks) Ian McKellen (in talks) James Nesbitt (in talks) Andy Serkis (in talks) David Tennant (in talks) I've just read in the imdb threads that Fassbender is rumored to play Bard.... Noooooo!!!! Not that scrawny guy! He gets all the roles I want Gerry to play, this wouldn't be the first time (Rochester in Jane Eyre was another one...). Unfortunately a lot former Gerry fans started to trade in Gerry for Fassbender after 300... I know quiet a few of those. I don't get his appeal. OK, he's talented and not bad looking but he is no Gerry!!!! Not even close!!!! Sigh.
