John Malkovich, Gerald Butler, Penelope Cruz to star in “Pythagoras: The Gates of Light” As ancient Greece and mythology has become the recent trend in Hollywood, the new film about mathematician-philosopher Pythagoras comes as no exclusion. Beginning in September, they will be filming in Greece, and more specifically in Samos and Delphi. At the same time, filming will take place in Belgium and Luxembourg. The film “Pythagoras: The Gates of Light” is based on Mia Sperber’s book, and will be directed by the Chilean Raúl Ruiz (Time Regained). Manny famous Hollywood stars are in discussions for a role in the film. Among them are John Malkovich (for the role of Pythagoras), Gerald Butler (as Pythagoras at a younger age), Penelope Cruz, Ben Kingsley, Brendan Fraser, Casey Affleck, and Patrick Stewart. They are also planning to film a TV series directed by Raúl Ruiz too, as well as a documentary directed by George Economou. The British ‘Fountain of life Productions’ and the Greek ‘Inkas Film Productions’ are in charge of the film production. The pianist and composer Lalo Schifrin will take care of the music part of the film. hollywood.greekreporter.com/2010/05...gorean-theorem/

OK, seriously? Gerry as Malkovich? Who's kidding? Oh, oh, OK - so that means that Pythagoras was HOT in his early days and - ugly when he got older?! O-K.
Well, if that's case, I'd like for that movie to shows us the life of YOUNG Pythagoras (the whole movie)!

The sad thing is, I believe Gerry is versatile enough he could do both age ranges. Hell, he's lost 15 years since Christmas!

Are they insane or just blind? These two don't even look remotely like each other. I would buy a Gerry and Russell Crowe looking alike more than these two (just so everyone knows, I don't think THEY look alike either, just showing how ridiculous I think this notion is).

Sorry to say it, but I think any role that entails portraying the main character in "his younger days" is destined to be a 10 min role. LOL Maybe this is going to be some type epic film with a bunch of cameos but I'm hoping the casting info is wrong and there is another juicy role available for Gerry.

i'd have to agree...casting in a cameo typically will take about 10-20 minutes & edited in bites throughout the film. the idea sounds very appealing...greek! anything of antiquity gerry looks the part... and speaking of john malkovich....he's always so very interesting to watch. he's a compelling actor, rich, deep, metaphorical or quite frankly, in your face. i like the contrast. but again, agree....gerry and john do not share any facial features similiar and their age 'group' is rather close compared to a youth versus old age spread.....if gerry does this role (which i'd personally love to see) i'd be hoping for more of a constance rather than glimpse of......
