Casey Shenefield, a 2007 graduate of Northmor High School, is now a U.S. Navy Seabee currently stationed in Haiti as part of the post-earthquake relief effort.
The local Seabee recently got an unexpected perk along with his military service: he got to meet and be photographed with several celebrities who are assisting the Haitian relief effort, including superstar actress Demi Moore and actor Gerard Butler. Shenefield has posted the photo of himself with Butler as his “Facebook” picture. Shene-field also had the opportunity to meet other celebrity philanthropists, including Ben Stiller, Susan Sarandon and Sean Penn.
A photo of Shenefield and Moore is included as part of a People Magazine profile entitled “Inside Demi Moore’s Trip to Haiti: The actress joins her fellow stars on a goodwill trip to the earthquake-ravaged country.”

The Seabees are the Construction Battalions (CBs) of the United States Navy. The Seabees have built bases, bulldozed and paved thousands of miles of roadway and airstrips, and accomplished numerous other construction projects in a wide variety of settings, dating back to World War II.
Shenefield’s mother Tonya shared with the Inquirer that her son’s unit is currently working with the Jenkins-Penn Haitian Relief Organization to teach Haitians, who were devastated by the Jan. earthquake on the Caribbean island, how to dig ditches and install irrigation systems, as well as other skills that will enable the people to recover from their ordeal. More information on Penn’s organization can be found at jphro.org/
Casey’s father, Haven Shenefield, is a retired Seabee himself. The family of the younger Shenefield couldn’t be more proud, reports Tonya. “It’s really exciting for Casey and his fellow Seabees. They work so hard, and it’s nice when they get to have some fun and meet these celebrities, who are so generously helping out in the situation down there.”
The Inquirer would like to thank Seabee Shenefield’s grandmother, Galionite Joyce Braden, for bringing this interesting and heart-warming story to our attention.
