I watched Machine Gun Preacher yesterday. Having heard so much about it and so many different opinions, I have to say I was positively surprised I watched Blood Diamond a couple of day before yesterday, so I have to say I couldn't keep from comparing them, but I think they were both good in different ways. I do think, though, that neither of them were Oscar material, though they were good and thorough and dedicated in their presentation of the topics. I think GB's performance was good and I got a very different view of him as an actor in a good way, even though I already liked his work and his method (so to speak). As a few people have said before, I think the movie jumped a lot around, and it was difficult for me to immerse myself completely in it, but I don't know what should have been different.. I did like it very much! I'm glad I watched it, and I think GB can be proud of it! Seeing Sam Childers talk at the end, gave me a completely different view of him. What a charismatic person he is, IMO! GB was a good choice for that role!

Mak, i'll tell you what though lately i've gotten caught up in the KONY 2012 news. SO very interesting, captivating, perplexing and frustrating all at once....africa is such an interesting, mysterious and diverse continent. isn't it ironic that now this evil despot is encrouching on the worlds last vestiage of tropical rain forest (congo). personally, i am so THANKFUL our gov't finally wants to get involved...but, do we really need 'advisers' in uganda? no...we need policing military in central africa NOT east africa! hello, knock, knock.... meanwhile, one thought occurred today....gerry is INDEED a special guy in so many ways. how timely...PERFECT timing for gerry to star in this film about a man who has spent YEARS rescuing and saving these poor sudanese and ugandian children. i guess the 'invisible children' troupe has also spent many many yrs getting the word out to college & high school student....i SO am thankful: (metaphorically speaking) the 'river has swelled & truth is carried to the four corners of the earth'.....joseph kony has GOT to be brought to justice. (regardless of the time frame of his horrible deeds). perhaps NOW, since the entire globe has its full attention on their 'military' & 'paramilitary' practices which has 'seen the light of day' and been fully exposured....change will ensue...this even goes for 'our' gov't to keep its STICKY CORPORATE HUNGREY fingers OFF africas oil, gold, diamonds etc....

Dawne, ITAWY! As they claimed in Blood Diamond, some powerful people in the Western world don't want peace in Africa, because war and poverty keep the prices on e.g. minerals low. And many rebel armies in Africa don't want peace or freedom - they just want money and power - and for some weird reason kill and mutilate other people. There are around 800 million people in Africa today, and it is estimated that there will be 2 billion people in Africa in 2050 - despite the AIDS epidemic and hunger/famine! They have the right to a decent life! It's beyond tragic and incomprehensable - and as you say complex! sorry to write about such sad stuff - I'll get down from the box now...

I just watched an interview on YouTube. Gerry talking about MGP - he is so passionate about that whole project. I hope he talks about what happened one day , in regards to the movie not getting a wide release. I still don't understand the reasons........... Feel sad for him, he put in all that work & all that expectation for nothing. I hope it does well on DVD and more people get to see it. I also wonder if the disappointment of MGP lead him back into the darkness. Hope his next project is better promoted.

For any Australian fans, MGP has been released this week. You can buy it from any JB Hi-Fi store ( if your from Melbourne ) Not sure about Blu-Ray. The standard DVD has no extras, no commentary -isn't that strange?? Looking forward to watching it..

cute boys - all of three :-) That is a sweet picture. There's a scene where Sam is trying to sift dirt and these little kids kept running through the dirt that Sam was sifting and looking at those childrens legs I wonder if they were in that scene?
