amaZing. wonderful. everlasting. lovely. it has made every second of an otherwise brutal and miserable 2011 life experience thus far....worth it! getting off a 7 hour train, hopping into a nearby restroom to freshen up and change tops....my TIFF friend grabs me & bags galore and make our way over to the APJ event.....we were relatively early, so the cameras & crowd were just gathering thank God my friend printed off the paid tickets because for some ODD REASON my name didn't appear on 'the list'....((first thing noticed...you've got to be on 'the list' everywhere)) you can well imagine the excitement building all day long on that train from schenectady to toronto. Oh...My....God....lets talk. meanwhile, once we entered this darkened, very hip asian restaurant....all tension seemed to leave while thinking "just deep breathe dawne...every thing will be okay...you are NOT going to faint, you are NOT going to trip....you WILL look this man straight in the eye and be a normal human being" thank God for the other girls in our group...the friendly banter and good cheer helped....so, behind the glassy bar there's a huge screen with what was a suppossed 'live feed' from the events outside....when gerard's headshot came on....i almost lost it...my heart started to pound...just a bit though LOL yeah, really. huh, huh....excitement started to bound off the walls, everyone in the room went a buzz...you could literally palpate the energy. it was amazing! then..............and THEN, in gerard walks. i kid you not...ladies (and gents) every head pivoted toward gerry....every eye was fixated! he is tall, his suit fit well, his hair....luscious, he eased into the crowd and made every one feel at ease...his eyes are utterly striking....its more than the color....its what lies behind them. he is fantastically inquiring...extremely curious and alert. NO...and no...i didn't bring a camer and NO, absolutely NOT...i did not introduce myself (cluck, cluck)...i simply wanted as much of natural, organic, no frills experience. just breathe it all in...survey the landscape (manscape) for what it was. get a pulse on first impressions.....((as an aside....i was exhausted, dishevled, not at my best...))....gerard is without question or doubt a consummate professional, he reels great energy, his charm is unparalled and is he real. down to earth. real. but, i could also sense he was exhausted and dug down deep to 'carry on the show'....he loves people you can tell. he thrives on their love back toward him. its lovely and sweet. i am SO glad this trip took place. the rest of the weekend was interesting more to tell later.... i hope each and every girl on this board some time also have a gerry or near-gerry event....you will not forget it! xxoo ....oh, this made me giggle....'blond mud wrestler'...oh, you gerry

Dawne
Thank you so much for sharing! I am so glad for you that all went well and you had this memorable experience. You managed to describe exactly how I felt when I saw him. You really nailed it and especially this: "his eyes are utterly striking....its more than the color....its what lies behind them".
It was a good thing you decided to focus on G and not worry about photos and stuff. It can get too stressful and distracting.

Dawne Thank you so much for sharing! It can get too stressful and distracting. oh yes terez...yes, yes...just wanted it as raw, simple, natural as possible without any 'added' distractions...the hustle and bustle of traveling to a new destination is enough let alone getting into a huge metropolis during a world reknown festival (whew)anyway.... here's Part II:Saturday (9/10): woke up to filtered sunlight bouncing around my friends highrise apartment overlooking a lovely park. beyond the lush green park borders to the left - toronto's best urban sprawl and to the right....great lake ontario...a vast fresh water inland sea....my head is STILL reeling from the APJ event...'THE EVENT'.... standing in the same airspace as 'the G', lying there ruminating on what i saw...he is so cool. thats it...just SO cool. he seems like a lot of fun, down to earth, funny, heady yet humble.....saturday is warm, pleasant breeze, sunny....a lot going on in every corner of the city....never a dull moment....((couldn't get into any of the media conferences...i tried LOL) time lapses, much to do....toward the end of the day we get ourselves ready for yet another outting to an afterparty at the 'roosevelt room'...excitement mounts....we taxi over early, what a crowd already!! whoosh!! we wait in line for a bit then enter the darkened disco chambers.... hazy, smokey, blue & purple lazers pulsating to a HUGE techno beat...( i like it)...we recline on black leather couches and wait....a swift waiter comes along to deliver a bucket of ice enquiring if we'll order a $300 bottle of vodka ((and a sparkler)).... what? not today dear....not in this lifetime...thanks LOL((wink, wink))...as time rolls on, it become evident the 'G' man is not present (ealrier there was an award dinner)...so, we decide to leave and make our way down to the main theatre for TIFF...the streets were packed...and the word was gerry watching some festival films....so, off we go toward this theatre ((you guessed it)...and wait. honestly, didn't mind...everything was so exciting, meeting and talking to all these people, seeing the sites & sound of this international event...it was intoxicating....someone in our crowd i guess saw gerry and his friends about to leave the theatre but retracted elsewhere...the whole group moved like an amoeba....racing around a corner...i tucked back feeling kind of awkward...obviously, the man wanted his privacey...i really sensed he was exhausted and just wanted his space ((making no judgements here on any fan who pursues whatever it is she's in pursuit of...))...so anyway, me and a couple of other ladies held back and chatted....one thing for sure, gerry has terrific fans....met a lot of great people!! the other girls, did catch a glimpse of 'G' leaving and he did manage to wave BB....afterwards, we ended up hanging out and getting into some great conversations...this was striking...people at this festival wanted to talk, and talk we did...until the wee hours of the night......all the while, i am sure....gerry made the rounds to all the parties and events....i wonder at the end of the day...with all the hustle and bustle...he must sleep rather soundly! just wondering.... Part III ((the red carpet) upcoming

last installment. i promise. ((yakity yak))...wow, this board is ABLAZE with fantastic interview scripts & news...really like the youtube channel too. awesome. okay, here goes...if memory recollects proper....'the red carpet' part III actually, its wasnt a red carpet....more like a surrounding pathway of white plastic banners barracading the onslaught of toronto travelers...outside the ground covering was concrete. perhaps inside the 'tunnel' there was 'red carpet'. anyway, the crowd started to gather under the elm trees around 4:30pm - 5:00pm drips and drabs....by 6:00pm the crowd had grown to at least 400 people. yeS, it was quite the scene...everybody was SO excited....a fever pitch started to mount as the limo's pulled up midway...first recognizable was rev. childers & wife; then the director marc forester (whom greeted the crowd with handshakes, photos & smiles)....the writer came along then michelle was beautiful, warm & friendly....then....THEN...by osmosis the crowd squealed, cheered and crushed forward to see 'the' gerry pull up! as he left the limo....he made a mad dash toward the crowd who screamed and cheered....it was amaZing the level of energy and gleefulness gerry has toward his fans....there is such a fun spirit back and forth between them. gerry made his way around the crescent circle...shaking hands, giving photos & signing pics....the closer he got to where we stood the more people pushed in...i pulled back just to 'see' better believe it or not....in the broad daylight you could see the high energy level pumped him up....he has a lot of fun with the crowd....which was cool to see, feel & sense! alan siegel was present . he had such a warm, serene look on his face....like he understood, in this moment in time & space....gerry becomes 'one' with his audience...((i guess this is the only way i can explain it))...there's just a lot of good spiritedness and yes....YES, 'love' going around. its sweet.

TY so much Maddie!
I posted my story elsewhere, oh well. It was awesome. Saw him Friday night at an after party for like five minutes, but got to say hello and that I was going to the MGP premiere - we had a very brief exchange with him saying 'See you Sunday!' with a smile...ahhhh
Then I saw him Sunday along with two thousand others, lol, but we casually drove over to the after party location and lo and behold, there he was with very few others in front of the place and we had our chance. He was kind enough to take a pic and he looked great. It was rushed and I felt I didn't want to delay him so it was a quick snap. Then he scooted inside after we told him how great the film was. Souleymane was a bit different, all smiles, not in a rush at all, happy to stop, chat take a pic (turned out better)....all in all, happy to have had the experience, and pics to show!
