deadline.com/2014/09/gerard-butler-olympus-has-fallen-sequel-babak-najafi-842692/Gerard Butler Eyes Babak Najafi As ‘Olympus Has Fallen’ Sequel Helmer EXCLUSIVE: Looks like Gerard Butler won’t be alone for London Is Falling, the Millennium Films sequel to the action hit Olympus Has Fallen. Babak Najafi, best known for helming Easy Money II: Hard to Kill (better known as the sequel to Snabba Cash) is now in discussions to helm the action film that is being transplanted to the Blighty. This has been a hot open assignment since Charlie Countryman helmer Fredrik Bond bristled at the scale of the movie and exited. He got the job after the helmer of the original, Antoine Fuqua, didn’t like the sequel direction and decided not to take part. Several up and comers went after the job, and were rumored to be getting on a plane and heading to meet Butler. One was Wayne Blair, helmer of The Sapphires. Now, I’m told that the job will belong to Najafi is his reps at UTA and Magnolia can make the deal. Najafi made his directorial debut with Sebbe, which won Best Debut Film at Berlin in 2010. He has also directed episodes of Banshee. The original grossed $99 million domestic, and $161 million worldwide. Setting the action in an international front could improve the latter number.

Thanks for posting this, Elenoire, giving us an idea of what's going on. I like that it "has been a hot open assignment" but wonder about the comment that Fuqua didn't like the direction of the sequel(thought it was because he was busy with other films).
I get heart palpitations every time I see a link with LHF, fearing the worst. So, on the whole, this seems positive. I was hoping that LHF would come along next year but can't see how they could do this with Gerry filming in February if I remember correctly.
Of course OHF got to the screen quickly to beat that other movie. And maybe most of the cga will be completed if other filming begins soon.
Well, enough of my speculations. I just want to see Gerry in a good movie SOON

I have my reservations about this project, I would rather not see a Gerry film next year if it isn't a good movie. The only bright spot for me is that the original cast has signed onto the project even without Fuqua.
I was also shocked to read that Fuqua is being quoted as not wanting to be involved in the sequel because of the direction of the film. When the sequel was announced it was announced at that time that Fuqua wasn't available because of The Equalizer project and Southpaw with Rachel McAdams, Jake Gyllenhaal, Naomie Harris which is presently in post-production. I wonder if the writer took liberties with this comment for Fuqua said something inn recent interviews.
We need to hope this director will be good for the project, he is an odd choice I think.

Now this is news, Gerry was mulling over the idea of leaving LHF because he was not liking the directing prospects- There must not be a good enough of newer directors who do action films out there hope this new guy doesn't disappoint.

I'm really worried about LHF now with a practically unknown directing the movie. It certainly doesn't speak confidence for the movie. It sounds a bit like the problems may be the downfall of LHF and I really hope not. When you look back at Gerry's career, there have been quite a few of his movies that don't work out. I hope that isn't the case here!

Gerry said in his Hugo Boss Q&A that LHF starts in December... for him or the others is still unknown
@sparty67: What is it about HUGO BOSS that made you decide to be a spokesman? How much longer until London Has Fallen gets going? Sparty67 #bossbottled is thought-provoking & inspiring. I wear #boss fragrance, so it’s a perfect fit! Film starts Dec! #spon #AskGerard

Shellie! www.thewrap.com/olympus-has-fallen-sequel-lands-jackie-earle-haley-as-first-new-cast-member-exclusive/‘Olympus Has Fallen’ Sequel Lands Jackie Earle Haley As First New Cast Member (Exclusive) Babak Najafi is directing the Gerard Butler action movie “London Has Fallen” for Focus and Millennium Films Oscar-nominated actor Jackie Earle Haley (“Little Children,” “Watchmen”) has closed a deal to join “London Has Fallen,” the sequel to last year's sleeper hit “Olympus Has Fallen” that's being mounted by Focus Features and Millennium Films, TheWrap has learned. Babak Najafi (“Easy Money II”) is directing the movie, which will reunite original stars Gerard Butler, Aaron Eckhart, Morgan Freeman, Melissa Leo, Angela Bassett and Radha Mitchell. Butler returns as a U.S. Secret Service agent tasked with stopping a terrorist threat — this time overseas. When he attends the British prime minister's funeral with the U.S. president (Eckhart) and Speaker of the House (Freeman), a deadly plot to kill powerful world leaders reveals itself. Haley will play Deputy Chief Mason, though character details were not immediately available. Christian Gudegast wrote the script with original scribes Creighton Rothenberger and Katrin Benedikt, whose “Olympus Has Fallen” grossed nearly $100 million at the domestic box office. Butler is producing with Alan Siegel, Mark Gill and Matt O'Toole, while Millennium's Avi Lerner and Focus Features CEO Peter Schlessel will executive produce with Trevor Short, Boaz Davidson, John Thompson and Christine Crow. Haley recently co-starred in Martin Scorsese's “Shutter Island,” “Steven Spielberg's “Lincoln,” Tim Burton's “Dark Shadows” and Sony's “RoboCop” remake. Haley is also in post-production on his directorial debut “Criminal Activities,” in which he stars alongside John Travolta, Dan Stevens and Michael Pitt. He's represented by WME, Leslie Allan-Rice Management and attorney Todd Rubenstein.

Just read the tweet and saw the photos of the filming for London Has Fallen in London, it does say they are filming for CGI, I wonder if any actors are on set? Or just pre-production stuff. I really hate that Gerry is doing two films at the same time, I think it has to be difficult. I remember when he did TBH, he was coming fresh off of filming/producing LAC and on top of that the film was in post-production being fast tracked for that October release date. I think it affected his performance in TBH,he was just "too" intense at times as Milo, his character was all over the place. It is exciting to see news of both films though, we need 3 movies of Gerry's to look forward to!

I'd have to agree with you. it's tough working on two projects same time. it must. really. but, wasn't the two other films mentioned at least in the states while the current work is between America and England? Gerry is a 'jet setter' in the purest sense but STILL....he's not s cyborg, pfst (( but a human bean who requires sleep, rest LOL)) oh alright, some might say a 'workin' machine lean and green'....

Oh, Elenoire, thank you. I may have missed it somewhere, but who is playing the "English MI-6 agent who rightly trusts no one"
Can't tell you how pleased I am to see that Radha Mitchell will be back. Maybe Leah and Mike can finish that kiss they started at the end of OHF. I certainly watched that in slow motion more than a few times.
Less that a year, Ladies!!! I'm counting the days.
