His brogue is so wonderful & wish he could use it on screen more. I don't get the criticism agst his American accent --- he sounds just fine. Nobody has a perfect American accent even us Americans.

HA!!!! Isn't that the truth! When I went to Las Vegas a couple years ago, I had at least five or six people asking me if I was Canadian. I'd say, "No Detroit." I guess it makes sense though, I can be in Canada in 45 minutes from where I live. Also..HA! I talked to Canadia on the phone last week and I didn't notice any accent and that is probably because she sounds like me. This is a good example of a Canadian accent (if anyone is interested)... I can hear it, I wonder if anyone else can. This is Mickey Redmond: a beloved announcer for the Detroit Red Wings Hockey Team. Mickey was born and raised in Canada. The accent difference from American is more of a rhythm that Canadians have in their speech pattern then words being pronounced differently. The difference is slight. Or there's this... Geeze I had just graduated high school when this came out... Canadian accent exaggerated....

Now if we could get critics to stop bashing but that's a lost cause they never listen & love bashing too much.

No, im not bashing Gerry and he does a good job of removing his accent, but i think people like Alan Cumming or James Macavoy do a great job of getting rid of their accents...likewise Hugh Jackman, his Aussie twang..gone!

Listening to the interview Gerry did with BBC Radio Scotland, he was very conscious of his accent, they talked about it, and the whole 'Sheena Easton' phenomemon. I remember him talking about his loathing for her americanized accent. Poor guy, the shoe's on the other foot now! It's funny, there was an interview with Billy Connelly before Gerry and he hasn't lost his accent at all.
