That is a great attitude, Dianne. I had a similar experience several years ago doing website/fan work for another actor. I had to let it just roll off my back. Today the complaining/negative site and its staff is gone---and our little website network is happy, healthy and growing.
"I don't wait more than 3 and 3/4 hours for anyone"-Hannah Pitt
Ok this is what happened. We got there around seven....oh,oh,oh let me start by saying there was a mix-up there was a group there the same time I was and somehow somewhere they had gotten their wires crossed and I was mistakenly been grouped with the other group. It took a day to straighten it out and I became Detroit Dianne from WO and The Charity. Being that there was a mix up they weren't prepared for me.
So anyway Gerry being the humanitarian that he is, wanted to somehow squeeze me for the good of the the charity and the poor little kids from Kids Kicking Cancer.
So some people told me they would probably get me to sign a confidentiality agreement when I enter the set, but they didn't... However, I know how important this movie is to Gerry so I made a point of not asking any questions about it so I don't know anymore about the actual plot of this movie then you do. All I know is they are breaking their asses to get it done. I was told that Gerry worked from 3:00 to 3:oo AM Thursday and was going to do the same thing on Friday, the day I met Gerry. So poor Gerry was just being pulled in 50 million directions. Finally, through no fault of Gerry's we finally saw him two hours after we arrived. We parked our butts next to Gerry's trailer.
I didn't tell anyone this but after I saw the picture Wade sent me of Lolita I thought there was a chance I would see her while I was there, so last week I went to a craft fair and bought her a squeaky toy and a scarf. I picked out a scarf that would say she was a girl but yet not frilly since she is a man.s dog. Me and my daughter settled on one that looked like it was made of thin denim with red hearts.
So we're sitting there and waiting for Gerry by his trailer when an assistant comes out of the trailer with Lolita to let her go potty. My daughter who loves dogs is like... "OMG Lolita!!!"
We asked him to bring her over and he said he would after she did her business. So I gave her a few minutes and I started squeaking the squeaky toy and she runs over immediately. She is so cute and she snorts like crazy and really sweet and friendly. Her little tail was wagging and she grabbed the squeaky and let my daughter put on her new scarf. By coincidence she has a red heart hanging off her collar.
Me and my daughter and Lolita...
my daughter and Lolita...
Me and Lolita
Well after a while Gerry comes back to his trailer and he invites us in immediately and that is when I asked him if he remembered me and he made the comment of not being able to ever forget my hair.
He tells us to sit down and he is really friendly and animated and he begins to rip on me in a nice way. I think he could tell my reaction to the hair crack that I could take a joke and he could have a little fun with me.
He asked me what I thought of Machine Gun Preacher and I told him I liked it and that his accent had been perfect.... Well I don't know what I was thinking when I picked the word perfect but I think for a split second I was going to say another word and the word perfect came out sounding really strange. He smiled really big and repeated the way I said the word and then he cracked up.... It was just like the word automobile that Long Duck Dong said in sixteen candles.
I brought along the scrapbook I made from my experience with MGP because I wanted him to sign it. He got a big kick out of it especially the part about the orange paper in the window from my sign. I had the scrapbook set up just like the way I originally told it on the board. He laughed about the hotel room that Klousdancer and I rented that day and teased me about us having a grand scheme about getting the room whose bathroom window opened on the set.
I also told him the story of how in shock I was the first time I met him and how I mistakenly got in that little girls picture.
That tickled him to death. My daughter said, "Yeah, she's a picture bomber!"
About that time his manager comes in and tells him he HAD to get to hair and make-up so he had his assistant film the scrapbook as I told the story and pointed out the pictures.
Also he really liked the squeaky and the scarf and introduced Lolita as the love of his life. So he hurries up and signs all the charity stuff then he signed my scrapbook and a Phantom of the Opera picture for my daughter which he personalized.
As he left he took pictures with me and my daughter and he told me my scrapbook was a trip and that I was a riot.
That's him signing my scrapbook. You can see the Phantom picture he personalized for my daughter. He's covered in fake blood.
My friend saw this picture on my daughter's facebook and she wrote, "Where's your mom, passed out on the floor?"
See through the trailer, there's the bedroom with a Queen size bed. Spacious on the inside for being so little on the outside.
Me, he does look like he's holding me up. I look pregnant too. Maybe he's so potent he can knock-up a women whose had a hysterectomy by just being in the same room.
Got a couple more pix of Lolita in her bed.
The round plush thing is the squeaky I got at the craft show for her.
As he was saying good bye to us, I told him I really like his hair short and he said, "Yeah, me too."
Right after they told him he had to go for hair and make-up, I said,,,"Oh boy... we have a 20 question thing for you."
Bless him, he grimaced and said, he just didn't have time and they would have his ass if he didn't hurry, but he offered to call me and do an over the phone interview.
I saw how stressed he is and I know his schedule, so for his sake I declined... He has enough on his plate.
I thought about it later and although I am not sorry I declined I am going to write him a thank you note tomorrow and ask him I can take him up on the phone interview as soon as his load is lifted a little. Actually the way he's going it seriously won't be for nine more months. It's something to look forward to though and maybe from now to then I'll teach myself to record phone conversations so everyone can hear it.
Congratulations, Dianne--you really made it happen! I know you work so hard for us just because you love doing it, but it's great to see you get a wonderful, well-deserved Gerry experience. Thanks for posting tonight--you must be exhausted.
I can't believe how the excitement works its way into our hearts as well. Reading your story, looking at the pics and imagining how you felt--I almost feel as though I were there.

Awesome Dianne! Great pictures! You, your daughter and Lolita look great... And yes, that dude who happens to be in the pictures doesn't look bad either! Knowing you in person I have to say your hair absolutely matches your personality. Never change either
Great story and so glad you did get to visit with him. He sounds exactly how I would imagine. Congratulations and I know you will get another chance to visit with him.....you, Gerry, your daughter and Lolita are buds!!!
Dianne so happy for you and your daughter. He looks great and Lolita is adorable. I envy you and am happy you had this chance to meet him. OMG just being that close to him I would not have been on the floor I would have been under the trailer. He looks younger with the short hair.
Dianne! So happy all went well in the end and you spend such a great time with Gerry and Lolita. And is there anything more we can say about Gerry being such a great person, always finding time for fans no matter how hectic his schedule is... Enjoy your experience as I'm sure you are still on
