I'm so invested in this man and his career that new like this is quite devastating. Can only imagine how Gerry manages to deal with these things which are beyond his control.

I am gutted by this. From what I have read about this film and what I have read so far of the script this movie really deserved to be made and would have been great for G. Isn't Hollywood ready with anything that isn't a sequel or remake??!

Nooooo , i was really looking forward to that movie. It sounded really good Hmmm... after OHF , i think that Gerry's next project was Manhunt and Afterburn. I just hope that that those gets confirmed after this. He has also been talking about that Robert Burns movie for years.

I agree , he really need a couple of major hits to get his name out there again. I loved MGP and Coriolanus , but sadly *intelligent" movies don't do so well in Hollywood.

This is not good news at all Gerry will have completed one film this year and even though he is doing Thunder Run that is a CGI film nothing else has been slated for sure.
Once again WB has screwed Gerry, there has to be bad blood between Joel Silver and WB because first RnR was "too British" and they would not give the movie a wide release now they place a hard release date for Motor City when they knew they could have difficulty doing post production.
It also makes me sick to see how many indi films that group of producers are involved with .. why couldn't they stick with Gerry's movie and shop a new distributor!

I hope this is just delayed and not cancelled... I heard Cincinnati just implemented some major tax breaks for movie productions and probably looks more like Detroit anyway than Atlanta... Hint, hint

collider.com/motor-city-production-cancelled/192564/Production Shut Down on Gerard Butler Revenge Drama MOTOR CITY Merely a few weeks out from the start of filming, production has been halted on the revenge drama Motor City. The film, from director Albert Hughes (The Book of Eli), has had a rather rocky development, with a number of actors (Dominic Cooper, Jake Gyllenhaal, Jeremy Renner) flirting with the lead only to subsequently drop out. Gerard Butler was finally set in the starring role of a felon who, after being released from prison, begins tracking down the men who framed him, with Adrien Brody onboard as the villain and Mickey Rourke in a supporting role. Filming was set to commence on September 17th, but the crew has now been told to go home due to some complex issues that have arisen behind the scenes. Hit the jump for more details. Per Deadline, Motor City came to a halt when the film’s backers realized that the firm March 31st release date would be impossible to meet. As I understand it, this release date was intricately tied to the foreign distribution deals made for the film, so with producers and backers now admitting that they can’t make that release date, those distribution deals now need to be reworked. As such, the film could not secure a bond (ie. insurance) to move forward, so production has now been halted. Warner Bros. issued the release date for Motor City via Joel Silver’s Dark Castle banner, but it’s now unknown if the studio will still be involved down the line. WB was only onboard for distribution, so the film’s financing should still be in place. Here’s how a spokesperson for the pic’s producers and financiers explained the decision to postpone production: “Faced with the realities of a very short post-production schedule and complicated visual and special effects, the producers have decided to push back production on Albert Hughes’ Motor City. We are dedicated to delivering top-tier productions such as 2 Guns starring Denzel Washington and Mark Wahlberg which is currently in production and Peter Berg’s Lone Survivor which is in pre-production. The circumstances surrounding this project made it impossible to meet the firm March 31st delivery date without compromising the quality of the film.” It’s clear that the film’s producers aren’t ready to scrap the project just yet, but there’s no guarantee that the entire cast will be available whenever they decide to pick production back up again. Butler is currently filming the White House actioner Olympus Has Fallen and has been circling the action-thriller Manhunt. Motor City has remained resilient through a number of stumbling blocks already, so the project may yet survive. We’ll be sure to keep you updated as more information becomes available.

www.comingsoon.net/news/movienews.php?id=94290It's not unheard of for a film's financer to get cold feet on a production, but it's not often when a movie is less than three weeks away from shooting when the plug is pulled and the entire crew is sent home. According to Deadline, that is the case with director Albert Hughes' revenge drama Motor City, starring Gerard Butler, Mickey Rourke and Adrien Brody, as the film's producers realized the March 31 delivery date set by Warner Bros. for the movie didn't give them enough time for necessary post-production and have decided to shut the production down. With plans to start filming on September 17, the film's backers Emmett/Furla Films, Envision Entertainment and Mark Damons Foresight, saw that it might be a problem finishing the movie in time for the release date set by distributor Warner Bros, which played a large factor in the film's international distribution deals. Unable to make the hard release date, the project was unable to secure a bond to move forward. In the film, Gerard Butler was going to play a man who wants revenge on those who framed him and had him imprisoned (similar to his 2009 thriller Law Abiding Citizen actually), but right now, the producers are scrambling to work things out with the cast and crew and it's uncertain whether Warner Bros. will remain involved if they get back up and running. What's interesting about the reasons for stopping production is that Warner Bros. hadn't announced a release date for the film publicly, and some may wonder why this release date wasn't negotiated earlier to be pushed back to allow Hughes the time to do the needed post-production rather than just stopping things cold. Either way, this news is being reported by Deadline, who even were able to get a statement from someone representing the producers on the shut-down: Faced with the realities of a very short post-production schedule and complicated visual and special effects, the producers have decided to push back production on Albert Hughes Motor City. We are dedicated to delivering top-tier productions such as 2 Guns starring Denzel Washington and Mark Wahlberg which is currently in production and Peter Bergs Lone Survivor which is in pre-production. The circumstances surrounding this project made it impossible to meet the firm March 31st delivery date without compromising the quality of the film. Meanwhile Emmett/Furla Films have a number of other films in various stages of production including the Fox thriller Broken City, directed by Albert Hughes' brother Allen, starring Mark Wahlberg, Russell Crowe and Catherine Zeta-Jones, the Sly Stallone-Arnold Schwarzenegger prison drama The Tomb at Summit, 2 Guns pairing Denzel Washington with Wahlberg, Stephen Frears' Lay the Favorite starring Bruce Willis, Rebecca Hall, Zeta-Jones and Vince Vaughn, which premiered at Sundance and will be released by Radius-TWC and Peter Berg's Lone Survivor in pre-production for Universal.

If I remember it right Gerry wasn't a producer for Motor City? Basically it's been pushed back ..... again but hopefully they will still make it after they rescheduled the whole thing. Hihi Berlin again pretty please. As far as I know you are right, he was not a producer on that. I was worried about potential problems as soon as I read about the trouble between WB and DarkCastle. I hope maybe they can find a solution to this. This sounds like a really cool movie. I would be very sad if it wasn't made!!!

screencrush.com/motor-city-halted/Despite an all-star cast and an experienced director, the revenge thriller ‘Motor City‘ has been put on indefinite hold. The cause? Scheduling woes, of course. According to Deadline, the the film was cancelled without warning and the entire pre-production crew was sent home immediately. The Albert Hughes helmed project, which was going to star Gerard Butler, Mickey Rourke and Adrien Brody, was set to begin filming in just a few weeks. Here’s the gist of what went wrong: in order to appease the various distributors (including Warner Bros.) and secure proper backing, ‘Motor City’ was given a “drop dead” date, meaning that it had to meet a certain release window no matter what. When the film’s backers saw that this would only allow them twelve weeks of post-production time, they chose to pull the plug rather than work under such a constrained schedule. Here is their official statement: “ “Faced with the realities of a very short post-production schedule and complicated visual and special effects, the producers have decided to push back production on Albert Hughes’ Motor City. We are dedicated to delivering top-tier productions such as 2 Guns starring Denzel Washington and Mark Wahlberg which is currently in production and Peter Berg’s Lone Survivor which is in pre-production. The circumstances surrounding this project made it impossible to meet the firm March 31st delivery date without compromising the quality of the film.” It’s always sad news when a film gets shut down. In addition to the director and cast losing the project, there are hundreds of other crew members who are suddenly out of a job. The film’s producers are currently working to get the project back on track.

This is sad news. Gerry wants to do this movie. I get the feeling it's been delayed numerous times since so many actors bowed out.
Let's hope they can fit the shoot into Gerry's schedule next year and have a realistic goal of a release date.
On the other hand, maybe this gives Gerry less stress about promoting Chasing Mavericks in Oct. He'll be free to do that. Hopefully A LOT!

Making movies is a tough business and when you think that Gerry just lost a major paycheck with the plug being pulled only 2 weeks from the start of filming it has to be a major blow. Lots of people lost a job and a paycheck this late in production. I would be sick if I lost a new job, And it seems like those producers were willing to walk away and cut their loses by pulling the production at this point. You know they are out that pre-production costs. And most of all unfortunately Gerry has to deal with headlines associated with a project that gets a pulled so dramatically. I have a feeling this project will probably be shelved for a few years due to these circumstances making the project less attractive.
