Just reading this article www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/showbiz/film/4518791/gerard-butlers-new-movie-motor-city-kod.htmlSo the crew got sent home yesterday though who knows which actually day that refers to Thursday/Friday. I am disappointed. I think a film with little dialogue was the actual challenge given to the scriptwriter and I loved the concept because you have to work harder when you don't have words to push the story line and I love it when actors have to push themselves and directors challenge the audience. I think Gerry could have been brilliant in this role. And casting the right villain and the right woman would make this whole film something very intriguing and different. Some of the articles are reporting Amber Heard as still attached yet another factual mistake? or was she not fully out of the picture I wonder. Oh, did you read any of the comments from this article, poor Gerry is taking a beating over this dramatic shut-down of MC and .. comments like these are all over the net. Makes me sad. because I think this was a power play between WB and Dark Castle that caused these producers to pull the plug. I have long since given up reading comments on any Gerry stories. There are some nasty, jealous, pathetic people out there who for some reason choose to slag off Gerry and others whatever they do. I don't know why people have so much venom and hatred for actors who, at the end of the day, are providing entertainment and pleasure for us! Also Shellie, I certainly wouldn't take any notice of people who read 'The Sun'. For those who don't know it, it is a horrible UK Tabloid newspaper that is still boycotted by a lot of people for the lies they wrote about the victims of the Hillsborough disaster.

There is a link on Twitter claiming that those that were providing financial backing for this project -pulled out at the last minute. what would have caused them to pull out at the last minute ? Sounds strange & like there is more to this story. Is that normal to pull the pin at the very last minute?? "Sounds strange & like there is more to this story." .... sounds to me like it's the tweeter who is trying to make more of the story, Catty.

Well I can see if Gary Oldman had heard any rumors why he walked because he was just in a movie where they had starting shooting, Monster Butler, in Scotland, a movie starring and produced by Malcolm McDowell and the financial backing was pulled couple of weeks into shooting in Scotland and they shut the thing down and crews had not been paid yet. Too bad because it was also an intriguing concept for a movie and Malcolm McDowell was the actor that inspired Gary Oldman to pursue acting in the first place. To see them together on screen would have been as cool as seeing Gerry and Gary together in a film with almost no lines. Now this was a lower profile indy indy movie but still. Who knows why financiers get cold feet. Maybe they had money coming that fell through and it is like a chain reaction.

Disappointing news. But maybe it was for the best. I'm sure there are countless movies that get casted and at the last minute the plug gets pulled. Hope that it can get back on track. The story line was interesting.

I was re-reading the LA Confidential interview last night and this quote seems particularly relevant now:
“I’m at a spot where the movies come to me more easily, and maybe I’m more at a place of a kind of spiritual acceptance that what’s for me won’t go past me,” says Butler. “That’s good for me, because to be honest, as much as I love what I do, it’s not the be-all and end-all anymore.”

Although at this point it seems this film is a no go, some interesting info surfaced today robot6.comicbookresources.com/2013/01/exclusive-chris-westons-art-for-albert-hughes-motor-city/Exclusive | Chris Weston’s art for Albert Hughes’ Motor City When comic artists work in the movie industry, we see little of what they produce due to Hollywood’s love of the the non-disclosure agreement. It’s understandable: Even if a movie is stuck in development hell, that doesn’t mean the project won’t eventually begin production (Brendan McCarthy originally worked on Mad Max: Fury Road from 1998 to 2003, and that movie is only now filming). It speaks volumes of the relationship between Chris Weston and director Albert Hughes that so much of Weston’s development art is allowed out into the wild — remember his storyboards for Akira? Weston writes: A little background: I spent six weeks in Atlanta, Georgia producing art for Motor City, a Silver Pictures production which was to star Gerard Butler. Based on a script by Chad St. John, Motor City was to be a high-octane 70s style revenge thriller with the added twist of HAVING NO DIALOGUE! Despite the script predating the release of The Artist, that film beat us to the punch … but at least it proved that modern audiences aren’t put off by by the idea of silent movies. I had great fun working on this one. I have no idea what the current status of the film is, but hopefully the insane action sequences that Albert cooked up for it will eventually be seen on the big screen. A quick check on the movie’s IMDb page shows Adrien Brody and Mickey Rourke attached to the Motor City, with no mention any longer of Gerard Butler; however, IMDb is hardly definitive in such circumstances. Weston certainly draws a great likeness of Butler, making him look at least as iconic here as in his career-making turn as 300‘s King Leonidas.

Thanks Elenore how sad it must have been for Gerry to lose this project when it was so close to filming. I just don't know how actors survive the emotional roller coaster of making movies. I am not a fan of Joel Silver and especially WB after distribution of RocknRolla, I think Gerry & Motor City became victim of a studio fight between Silver and WB.

I sure wish this would be revived with G in lead role. He would be excellent in this part. Its a terrible it is not going forward right now with Gerry.

This hurts my heart to see him dropped from this role. I hope studio's continue to see his skills as an actor. I thought Joel Silver liked Gerry, why this change or did Gerry himself pull out. Is there something else we don't know. One can only hope and pray.

Not only suing for his salary, but also the $1.1m his company paid to expedite the completion of OHF. We should really never wonder at him looking unhappy or stressed when this sort of business is going on. That's a potential loss of at least $6m ... not to be sneezed at when it seems there may not be anything firm in the immediate future.
