You guys are the BEST at research. LOL Too bad you can't get paid for it! I think whatever and however they do it, Gerry will be fantastic. I really really hope they don't die his hair bleach blond, though, and he doesn't have that overgrown soul patch. But however Gerry decides to bring Frosty to life will be great. Yes, I'm with you on that... But the good thing is that this is a current pic of Frosty while the movie takes place 15 years ago. Frosty didn't have the soul patch in some of the other pics and his hair looked darker. So I hope they'll let Gerry just have his normal hair... And it'll probably be long (see the surfing pic of Frosty), so G will have long hair until then.... yeah!!! But in all the pics Frosty was rather... well... not built like Gerry...LOL I hope Gerry is sticking with his athletic physique and they're not going to be too true to the real life guy... Though again, Frosty probably was skinnier 15 years ago too... I still am not sure how old he is.... maybe late 50ies now (just guessing, but he doesn't look mid-40ies)? So he would have been early-mid 40ies when the movie will take place? His surf style is interesting and it seems he is one of the best surfers alive. So Gerry will really have to get a lot of hours on the ocean in which we won't mind, esp. if there are pictures

Oh My good Lord!! away for a few days and so much happens!!! woof...gerry never ceases to amaze us....he's got some really great films on the board....CAN'T WAIT!!!! AND, now....(grrrr) i'm especially pleased to hear himself will be ON THAT BOARD!! LOL about 3 yrs ago i had such an overwhelming deal getting into 'surf docs', learning about it and in pursuit of wave riding in the northeast (no kidding...lake ontario huge fresh water surf along southern coast)...meanwhile, one of THE best surf doc's by stacey peralta (california skater boy legend) made ' riding giants'....with the giant wave riders laird hamilton and dave kalama along with all the 'mavericks' wave riders history is detailed. the 'mavericks' are especially interesting b/c this group sets out in cold waters to ride these fierce waves in northern california.... watch this doc....it is truly inspiring tale of how world over rides the waves.... and, jay moriarity - now....of course, if the film scouts are searching for a nice place to take on waves gently.... try the virginia beach to outter banks coastline....(cough)....THIS lifeguard is stand-ready to rescue any handsome scottsman out to sea....... september/october is perfect waves....just sayin'......

Hey ladies!
Just found this on twitter and wasn't sure if you've seen it... In looking at the last few posts, I didn't recall seeing it... Another article from a surfer's perspective...
Gerard Butler plays Jay Moriarty's mentor in "Mavericks" Written by Editor at SurferToday.com Saturday, 12 February 2011 19:31
"Mavericks" is the name of the surf movie that will tell the real life story of Jay Moriarty, the Santa Cruz surfing icon that tragically passed away in a diving accident, when he was only 22 years old.
Gerard Butler will play the role of surfer Rick "Frosty" Henson, Moriarity’s mentor. The surf movie will be directed Curtis Hanson, the man behind "L.A. Confidential" and "8 Mile".
"Mavericks" is the ultimate surfing biopic. Jay Moriarty was a great surfer and had a short but still fulfilled life by the sea and riding waves. Today, he is remembered every year when the big wave surf contest "The Jay at Mavericks" kicks off at Half Moon Bay.
The cast of "Mavericks" is not yet complete. Curtis Hanson is looking for a young actor to play the role of Jay Moriarity. Gerard James Butler is a Scottish actor. He studied law at the University of Glasgow and even became the president of the Law Society. Butler was inspired to try acting, after seeing a stage production of "Trainspotting", at the Edinburgh Festival.

The more I see of Jay, the more I think Zac Efron should play him.

some more reports - I am only adding ones that have something different to offer info or opinion wise * Gerard Butler is going surfing with the supremely cool Curtis Hanson, who'll be directing him in "Mavericks." It's a reality-inspired story that, Kevin Jagernauth reminds us, also calls for a tragic hero in his late teens and/or early twenties. I wonder if Nicolas Hoult might want to continue the growing tradition of really skilled young British actors stealing parts from Americans with their flawless U.S. accents, superior discipline, and all. He actually already did just that with his small but pivotal role as an Angeleno student who turns Colin Firth's head in last year's excellent "A Single Man. www.tv.com/surprise!-its-the-return-of-the-end-of-week-movie-news-dump./webnews/288796.html Another dig at G whilst praising Curtis Hanson Curtis Hanson is an established, well-respected filmmaker. Gerard Butler has yet to prove himself in any kind of capacity that doesn’t involve the gym. Nevertheless, the actor is attached to Hanson’s Mavericks, a biopic of surf, wait for it, maverick Jay Moriarity. Kind of life the James Dean of the surfing world, Moriarity died at 22 years jumping off a cliff into the water. Butler will play Rick “Frosty” Hesson, Moriarity’s real-life mentor. Something like the Burgess Meredith’s Mick from the sound of things. Walden Media is producing the film, so those kin of cliches are to be expected. Maybe there’ll even be a magical wardrobe or something like that. Who knows? That said, Hanson has always been a solid filmmaker, even in his misses (see In Her Shoes). Chances are he’ll be able to squeeze drama out of this tale and maybe even some acting out of Butler. Well, let’s not get crazy. The role of Moriarity has not yet been cast. Thanks for all the additional articles and links. I agree, some are unnecessarily snarky.

I can hardly contain myself just thinking about an entire movie of wet Gerry, Gerry in a swimsuit, and Gerry in boardshorts....Am I the only one? Nah, didn't think so, Ladies....LOL Just add the total hair porn he's got going on right now, and imagine him walking out of the water looking all FINE!!!!! Oh dear, I need a moment here...
And for Gerry to take on the role of mentor, would be great to see. As far as I recall, this will be a totally new perspective for him. I just love how he keeps challenging himself. He never ceases to amaze me, you go Gerry!!!
I second the Zac Efron suggestion, btw.

I just hope Gerry will have plenty of screen time.... there never can be enough of him for me.... and not sure how much he'll be in it since it looks the movie is more going to be about Jay. I'm afraid they may cast Taylor Lautner.... But I really don't care. There is no 20 year old actor I care for anyway. I'm more into the 35-45 year old actors...LOL Just hope it's not just all about the kid and we actually get to see Gerry surfing and shirtless and not just the kid.

Don't know if anyone has posted this or not, but I think that Cory Skyler might be an interesting consideration for Jay Moriarity! He's 19, very good looking and athletic (former speed skater). He's also got the same acting coach as Gerry. Just a thought!

Gerard Butler Signs on for Jay Moriarity Biopic Movie will tell the story of how the surfer prepared for Mavericks By SAJID FAROOQ fwix.com/sfbay/share/526d038fdb/gerard_butler_signs_on_for_jay_moriarity_biopicUpdated 11:00 AM PST, Wed, Feb 16, 2011 | Print Share Buzz up! 0diggsdigg Gerard Butler is keeping things ambiguous. Getty Images Hollywood is hoping to ride Mavericks' big waves to big box office success. Director Curtis Hanson has signed actor Gerard Butler to a movie about Bay Area surfing icon Jay Moriarity and his quest to surf the waves at Mavericks. The movie will be aptly called "Mavericks" and Butler will play the role of Rick Hesson, who was the late Moriarity's mentor. The San Jose Mercury News reports the story will focus on the relationship between the two surfers as they trained together to ride the fame wave at Mavericks. Hanson will reportedly not focus on Moriarty's premature death in 2001, when he lost his life in a diving accident in the Maldive Islands. The shooting of the film is expected to begin in October with local surfers possibly getting roles as stuntman but not actors in the film. _______________ Even nicer, the article is rated and it says Locals are 70% thrilled by the news........
