I dont know if we have this one but i"ve never read it before!!
Gerard Butler 19/03/2010 Gerard Butler says he isn’t always a nice person on movie sets.
The Scottish hunk has had to shoot several emotional scenes for films he has appeared in and preparing to feel angry or upset can have a negative effect on him off camera. Although Gerard always tries to be pleasant with the cast and crew, sometimes the feelings his character is experiencing spill into real life.
“I'm pretty good on set and I think I have a reputation for that. But I do play some pretty heavy roles sometimes. It's not that I go as far as the Christian Bale outburst but I can get a bit into it sometimes,” he said in an interview with BBC’s Newsbeat. “It's hard because you spend the whole day dipping into this crazy emotion and your screaming or crying or whatever it is. It doesn't make me this nicest person, but I always try to be.”
Gerard’s The Bounty Hunter co-star Jennifer Aniston recently said she can’t tolerate working with people who are moody on movie sets. The actress says she is a generally upbeat person and doesn’t understand why some Hollywood stars treat their cast and crew members badly.
Gerard has confirmed Jennifer is a joy to work with because she loves her job and remains in a good mood even after spending long hours shooting scenes.
“There's no one better than Jen for that, she's very appreciative of her cast and especially the crew,” he said.

I think if you have any experience working on the movie set or just common sense, you have to understand that all actors have their own process and esp when they have emotional scenes to do, it is best to leave them alone, give them their space and let their process do its thing. Gerry is actually better than most of the more purely method guys and some actors just turn it on and switch it off - that probably comes with more experience or some actors just never bought into the method.
That said, I do not condemn Christian Bale totally for his rant. The guy he was yelling at apparently had made the same mistake several times before which is not paying attention to filming and being in the scene whilst it was filming requiring the director to cut and the actors having to start over again and this was a particularly intense scene and Bale is intense on a good day. This guy was one of the cinematographers I believe or whatever he was he had been on enough movie sets to know better. Frankly I were the director I'd have been reaming the guy out first so Bale wouldn't have to, or I'd have fired the guy on the spot. And Bale is not the only actor or actress to do this, but someone taped him, held onto it for over a year and released it just before another one of his films was premiering, the Dark Knight. I am sure Gerry has reamed someone out at least that bad, there is a videotape of him cussing out a reporter that shocked me because this was on a red carpet, might have been after the premiere but still. That got him sent back to Media Training classes yet again. I have to find that sucker sometime.
But I can imagine him cussing someone out when he was wearing his producer's hat and time is money etc on LAC. And they cut out the part of the tape where Bale starts to apologize profuselyor so I had read, I can't remember if I actually heard the whole unedited tape or not, it is admittedly hard to listen to.

Great article, Pearl. I think it's hard for actors to be "on" all the time; everyone has their not-so-shiny moments, it's just that these actors and actresses will sometimes have theirs with cameras around them.

oh yes pearl. point well taken! not without one doubt! each and every one of us has had days of being ill-tempered & lacking patience displayed. the only difference is these folks have 24/7 cameras focused on every move. even the bloody hairs on their heads are monitored! THIS would drive me BONKERS! even though i'm usually 'behind' the camera or mic (as well as enjoying voyeristically interviews, photos etc)...i still respect privacy. it's a BIG issue in most industry's nowadays.......

Since we read people are wondering why Gerry isn't as open on the set of Machine Gun Preacher maybe it's because of the subject matter which from what I've read is very dark. So maybe Gerry wants to do his best for the movie and not hob nob with the public where he is always nice and down to earth especially with the material he is working with this time like in the Phantom he said he wasn't always nice on set. So he doesn't want people and his fans to see that since he's known to be so nice. Just a thought of maybe why we aren't getting full access to him.

I'm scared to even watch the Bale rant....even with all your input!
But true, we tend to take things at face value, but not try to think of 'why' and pre and post to get the full picture. That's why I don't read gossip magazines, or really search for things about Gerry besides on this site, where I can get multiple opinions and views, not just a 2D version. New pics are always fun, but the articles are just so off the mark, it's ridiculous - just to make a buck.
Enjoying very much following the filming of this particular movie, both for the story, the location (so close to many of you!), the input from peeps/posters on the set (how exciting!!). Also so glad he's back to the more serious genre with recent work - he is going to absolutely shine!

With "Coriolanus" and "Machine Gun Preacher" slated to be his next movies released, I don't know how people will be able to avoid taking him seriously. Anyone who has seen "Please" or "Dear Frankie" knows he can bring it. Now maybe more people will get the chance to see what we already know. Love this guy!

I think some of his male fans have been disappointed because, lately, he's been doing the rom com's and no action flicks... once these films come out, there will be something for everyone: testosterone injected action for the men and delicious eye candy for the ladies.

A few guy friends watched Law Abiding Citizen and loved it. He can totally bring it. Watching Dear Frankie with my hubby - though he rolls his eyes because he knows I love Gerry, he really enjoyed it. Of course 300 - what guy hasn't seen that? And Please was intense from start to finish.
But I absolutely loved him as Mr one-two - though the movie itself wasn't as good as other Guy Ritchie movies, GB certainly held my attention! Love that he could keep his accent.
Apart from LAC, he hasn't been very serious. Can't wait until Coriolanus and MGP come out. I'm hoping they'll release MGP at the Toronto Film Festival next year since it's slated for around that time, I think (?). I am totally going to go to that last night cocktail party, even if it costs me a few hundred bucks!
