hot off the presses: gerry's cover for britains 'mens health' december issue:
"Comment Written by Rosy on October 30, 2009 – 9:47 am Accidental Sexiness online
Gerard Butler is Men’s Health Magazine December 2009 cover model and boy does he cover that mag well! Even though this is from an old photoshoot, it doesn’t take away from the libidinous Gerry.
In this issue he discusses why his “out-of-control” behavior helped him find his way as an actor.
“You have to understand that I was completely out of control. If I hadn’t been so lost and insane, I’d still be a lawyer. I said to myself, I’m aiming for the stars. I’ll worry about the details later.”
The 300 actor credits a stroke of luck with helping him achieve success, but insists he wouldn’t have made it if he didn’t work hard.
He explained: “The universe conspires. Once you decide to do something, the universe starts to help you. “There are a lot of people who are really talented, and I can see they’re not going to make it because they don’t work hard enough.”
Our poor boy gets really lost though when he is not filming. He has no idea how to do menial, everyday things. But if he needs some help, I’m willing to volunteer!
He said: “I get a bit lost for about a week. I think, ‘No one is bringing me lunch anymore – I’ve got to go do that myself?

"Gerard Butler's Apprehension Over Thriller Role
GERARD BUTLER was worried about taking on a role in LAW ABIDING CITIZEN - because he feared comparisons to SIR ANTHONY HOPKINS and KEVIN SPACEY.
The actor, who shot to fame after starring in a string of romantic comedies, plays a man intent on avenging the deaths of his family in the new thriller movie.
But the Scottish star was wary of accepting the psychotic role, because of inevitable comparisons to the acting legends.
He tells Britain's Empire magazine, 'I was talked out of it a couple of times. But the fact that people were saying 'no' was all the more reason for me to do it. Can you do a romantic comedy, or a musical, and then go into a thriller and really scare the c**p out of people?
'What worries me when you take on a role like this, people will go, ' Well, he's no Kevin Spacey!' or, 'Tony Hopkins was much better!'
'But I can't be affected by projected fear.'

here's a copy of the online article written :
"Deadline press&picture agency By Cara Sulieman
SCOTTISH hunk Gerard Butler is returning to his roots for the European premiere of his new film, Law Abiding Citizen.
He has said it will be a “thank you” to his hometown for the support he has received during his career.
But it has also been revealed that the heart-throb has turned away from a film about Rabbie Burns, sparking fears that the movie will be axed completely.
Butler revealed the Glasgow premiere in a recent online chat with fans.
“Get merry”
He wrote: “Maybe I will see some of you at the premiere of Law Abiding Citizen because we are having out European premiere in Glasgow.
“Get merry and drink. I wish I could but I don’t. I hope to see you all soon. Have a good time.”
And a spokesman for Momentum Pictures confirmed the plans.
He said: “It hasn’t been announced officially yet but the premiere will be on November 15 at Cineworld, Renfrew Street.
“It will be something different having him in his home town.”
But the news comes in the same week that it is revealed the Hollywood star has snubbed a film about Robert Burns that was due to be made this year.
“Huge blow”
And there are now worries that it won’t go ahead at all due to the big name lead dropping out.
A source close to the movie said: “Gerry was up for playing the part a couple of years back – but it’s not on his radar now.
“He has much bigger projects in the pipeline and has pulled out. It’s a huge blow. To be honest, there’s little chance of it being made at all without Butler involved. He was the key.”
A spokesman from Scottish Screen confirmed that the film, which was due to be co-produced by London-based Mob Films, had been postponed.
They added: “Burns will not be made this year. We haven’t heard from the production company for a while and there is no chance of Gerard Butler now becoming involved.”
It’s a blow for the Scottish film industry, which has had a number of high-profile films cancelled thanks to the credit crunch.
“Warmth”
Mary Queen of Scots – due to star Scarlett Johansson – was also given the chop earlier this year due to financial restrictions.
Butler is returning to his roots with the premiere and reminisced about his childhood days when he was chatting with fans.
He said: “I came from a family of larger-than-life characters who were a joy to be around.
“They were a lot of jokers and storytellers, a lot on warmth. But it was tough as well. There could be a serious amount of confrontation.
“My father was probably the craziest and most fun and outlandish of the lot.”
The heartthrob grew up in Paisley and was raised by his mum Margaret – not seeing his dad between the ages of two and 16.

and, here's another article from online article:
"Deadline - Press & Picture agency By Rory Reynolds
HEARTTHROB Gerard Butler has spoken out about the acting guru who transformed his career.
Famed acting coach Larry Moss, who has worked with some of the biggest names in Hollywood including Leonardo DiCaprio, left Butler “sobbing his guts out” after one intense session.
But 39-year-old Butler has criticised his $1,000-an-hour fees, labelling the price tag “an absolute fortune.”
Butler, who is originally from Paisley, enlisted the services of the famed acting coach to prepare him for a role in the mini-series Attila the Hun.
He said: “He was so expensive, but I had two lessons with him when I landed Attila the Hun and I wanted to run over the script with him – he cost an absolute fortune.”But Gerard added that experience was unforgettable.
Passion
He said: “While we talked about the script he made me delve into myself so much – my passion, my pride and my patriotism.
“And I thought: why shouldn’t that be me up there?”
After his role in the mini-series he played King Leonidas in violent war movie 300, which launch him onto the red carpet of Hollywood A-list stars.
However former coach Moss hit back at Butlers’ “expensive” claim, saying that it was “hilarious” that rich stars were complaining that they had to pay so much for lessons, also adding that they were under $1,000.
He said: “I find it humorous but also irritating – I think it does have to do with his upbringing and how people view money in different countries.
“It’s hilarious that people who make millions in a film don’t think that they should pay a good amount for a person that actually makes the difference in their performance or in their career.
Recalling his coaching sessions with Butler, he said: “He struck me as having a profound sadness and a kind of anger at the state of the world.
“I felt very deeply from him that he had experiences in his life, things that weren’t fair, and that he was angry about those things.
“He got very emotional – he was sobbing his guts out.”

Well it does have a lot to do with your up bringing Both the irish and the scots have a stereotype of being tight with money. Of course Gerry being both would cringe at paying 1k an hour. Gosh that was before Attilla I don't think he would have been classified as rich by anyones standards then. Thousand dollars an hour was likely a painful investment in his future.

Oh, i absolute agree, Joy ! And it's not about origin and stereotypes.... Gerard before doing "Attila" he was more or less an actor like thousands others, stuggling to get known....Attila was his first role that he probably get paid slightly decent, yet i guess that before filming he really had to count every and each cent.

femalefirst.com.uk online magazine wrote today:
"Gerard Butler Talks Law Abiding Citizen Today 13:48
After a busy year so far for popular actor Gerard Butler he's about to return to the big screen with action movie Law Abiding Citizen.
So far he has already starred in The Ugly Truth and Gamer and temas up with Jamie Foxx for his latest movie.
- You’re also a producer on Law Abiding Citizen, so the script really must have had an impact on you.
I was originally pretty engrossed by the script’s punchiness. It hits you in a way that most thrillers don’t - it’s completely unexpected. You’re engaged from the beginning, right from the start when there’s this kind of horrific event happens and you’re with this character, you think this is your guy, but suddenly you swap over and you’re siding with someone else.
Your hero comes from another place. It’s a very engaging, intense scary story but yet at the same time something that fills you with a lot of empathy and emotion for both characters.
- Tell us more about your character, ‘Clyde Shelton’?
This could be anybody. This could be me or you and how would we behave in that situation? He’s not a villain- he didn’t ask to be in this situation. If this hadn’t happened to him he wouldn’t be where he is and he wouldn’t be exacting the revenge or being as violent or as brutal as he is.
But unfortunately, like I say, the randomness of life has left him in that situation. So, for me it was interesting to create this character who in the end you’d be terrified of- but he’s not a stock bad character.
- Whose choice was it for Clyde to be naked when he is arrested?
Well it wasn’t mine, I think that was in there from the start, or shortly after so it was there for a couple of years and I couldn’t wangle out of it.
Comment on this Article - Did you want to? How did you feel about it?
I mean that’s the thing, that’s why to be honest I wouldn’t have got rid of it because it’s a really cool moment. Like so many moments in this movie, it takes you by surprise, but it makes complete sense as well.
He’s being arrested and he has a huge plan so he’s got to play safe and show that there’s nothing else going on. It also was a chance for me to get really cut and shredded!
I was inspired by De Niro in Taxi Driver, and often when you see psychos and you see all those muscles and they’re being all sinewy it’s quite menacing. It suggests how much extra work and effort has been put into this plan.
- Explain the progression from law-abiding citizen to criminal mastermind?
They messed with the wrong guy. There is a switch in Clyde and somebody turned it on. Unfortunately for everybody else, he has the talent, capacity and tenacity to basically ensure that he brings the person that was supposed to help him Nick Rice and the system, to its knees.
- Some people say ‘never play a crazy person crazy’ because crazy people don’t know they’re crazy. How did you approach this with Clyde, is he crazy is he not crazy?
Well I don’t think he’s crazy. I think with Clyde in some ways there’s a complete detachment. In order to get where he’s extremely sane about what he does. There’s so much planning and calculation that’s gone into this and he’s an absolute genius.
Gerard Butler Talks Law Abiding Citizen - page 2 Today 13:48
There’s a lot of reason behind this as well, he’s not barking mad. All the stuff that’s happened to him would explain why he’s doing this, so I think there’s a large element of revenge.
I think the only part where that would be slightly insane, perhaps, is where he’s cut off the morality of what he’s doing.
- In your research in this role did you find anything that surprised you about the justice system? Was there some truth to this movie?
Yes, there’s definitely some truth to this movie. Initially the way it was written was one of the killers gets off completely free and I always thought against that because I didn’t believe that just by grassing on the other person you would get off scot free.
In the end it didn’t but what I did realise was how often that happens, or even that there is a possibility for that to happen. Basically just by grassing on other people, you can hugely reduce your sentence.
So sometimes it feels like there is a huge lack of justice in this system and how much this plea bargaining goes on and how little say the victims have.
- Tell us about Jamie Foxx and his character ‘Nick Rice’?
I’ve learned a lot from Jamie, he’s a very, very smart guy and talented. He makes Nick smooth, charismatic, he’s intelligent, he’s witty. But at the end of the day he’s a good man as well He’s a good family man.
- The film’s pretty intense, did you have fun on set?
I think most of the fun I had with Jamie was in going out. We could always have a laugh together, but once we got inside this cage it was pretty serious but I mean when we went out on the town we had some fun stories.
- When I watched Law Abiding Citizen there was a lot of reaction to some scenes in this movie. Do you think that’s because some of theses scenes are just so shocking people are blown away?
It is going be a pretty memorable experience for the audience. There’s just something that’s a little tweaked which is unusual as well as the great cast, it’s been brilliantly directed and shot so cool, you just want to sit there and watch it.
But on top of that it has got this really unusual story that kind of turns everything on its head and then the way especially myself as a character, the things I do, it always cuts ahead of what you expect.
This movie has so many shocking and surprising moments, it’s gripping and you never really know what is going to happen. I’ve been into a couple of screenings and you can literally feel the audience grasping onto their seats and even applauding.
It all comes from a true yet entertaining place. I think that there’s a lot of mind-blowing stuff, it never fails to disappoint.
Law Abiding Citizen is released on 27 November"

Butler not only stars as a lead character in the film, but is also the producer with the movie being the first release of his production company, Evil Twins. There’s even a sly Glasgow reference in Butler’s character name – Clyde Shelton. Shelton is an engineer who goes on a trail of revenge after a man isn’t convicted for the murder of his wife and daughter. A big crowd lined the streets outside Glasgow’s Cineworld complex on Sunday night to try and catch a glimpse of the 40-year-old, who has shot to prominence in Hollywood in recent years. The Butler clan was also well represented inside for the screening with over 70 family and friends of the star turning up to support their man. He was also accompanied by his mum on the red carpet and the pair posed for pictures. Shunning the traditional UK premiere venue of London’s Leicester Square, Butler - dressed in full national costume - was overwhelmed with the support he received from the home crowd. “It’s been extra special here tonight,” Butler told STV. “It was a big wave that hit me as I got out of the car. There was a lot of noise.“To be able to come back to Glasgow and see that amount of people outside… you can’t ask for more than that.” Butler gave an exclusive red carpet interview to STV at the premiere, which you can view from 8am on Monday November 16.
