We reveal the trendsetters of the future on
the shortlist of the Scottish Style Awards
THEY are Scotland's own style awards and showcase the best the country has to offer from the individuals and businesses setting the trends. Scotland on Sunday, the event's media sponsor, today reveals exclusively the nominations for ten of the officiADVERTISEMENTal categories. The winners will be announced at a glittering ceremony, hosted by pop star Sophie Ellis Bextor, at the Old Fruitmarket in Glasgow on 31 October.
Among the contenders for the most stylish Scotswoman are two young actresses, Karen Gillan and Louise Linton, as well as influential fashion writer Stacey Duguid and sculptor Tessa Campbell Fraser.
In the most stylish male category, actors are also to the fore, with Alan Cumming competing against 300 star Gerard Butler and up-and-coming Richard Madden. Dancer Michael Clark is also in the hunt.
The Most Stylish Boutique category will be keenly fought with lingerie companies Agent Provocateur and Boudiche among the nominees. Tough competition comes from Che Camille, Jane Davidson, Mulberry and Vivienne Westwood.
The Most Stylish Hotel category pitches several strong newcomers against each other including Paul Kitching's 21212, on Edinburgh's Royal Terrace, against Hotel Missoni, overlooking the Royal Mile.
For Outstanding Contribution to Style, it is a return to traditional values, however, and a nomination for Harris Tweed Hebrides and the island workforce that produces the world-famous material. "Harris Tweed is truly one of the last great surviving craft industries," says the citation.
Most Stylish Female
Louise Linton Actress
With a blossoming presence in Hollywood supported with a fast growing clutch of lauded acting roles – notably a guest appearance on CSI:NY, an appearance in Lions for Lambs starring Tom Cruise and Meryl Streep, various flirtations with comedy and her biggest, just-announced role to date in the global US detective smash Cold Case – Edinburgh born Louise Linton is fast mastering the art of red carpet glamour with an assured composure and natural charisma that signals a Scottish star very much on the ascent.
