ProfMac1971 @drwaynewdyer In all candor, you get a 9.5 for the seminar - the gal with Gerard Butler in the Food Court at intermission gets a 10!
This of course might have been a friend rather then a date, but taking a female companion to a Wayne Dyer seminar which are usually attended by your average PBS/aging baby boomer sort of crowd is a clever way to slide under the radar. Paparazzi don’t usually show up at those sorts of events at all.

Wayne Dyer is a big deal with many of my fellow baby boomers, I read a couple of his books back in the early 80’s. He’s very much a new age-y sort of positive energy and thinking influenced by eastern philosophy. He is now on Public Television all of the time doing his seminars. Gerry is very much a seeker and always working on himself in various ways. He really should move to Marin County which is sort of the center of all this sort of stuff. Lots of nature and hiking. Then he could come into SF and meet me for coffee at Caffe Trieste in North Beach. We could look at books at City Lights book store. Grab a bite to eat in Chinatown and for a little bit of old home week for Gerry head over to Edinburgh Castle Pub on Geary Street. It’s Irvine Welch’s (Trainspotting) hang out when ever he’s in SF and is now managed by a fellow from Glasgow who writes novels. I used to go there back in th 80’s because it was a great place to meet guys. So Gerry, get your arse up here! No one is going to give a flying you know what about who you’re dating. There are no paps or tabloids to follow your every move. You’ll like it!

Ha! sophie...agree! dr. wayne dyer HAS indeed morphed into a amalgamation of social-relativism and eastern mysticism. yeah, very new 'agey'. BUT, i remember when his book 'your errogenous zone' came out in 1976 and i gobbled it up. at the time, dr. dyer was so refreshingly candid and honest by offering up very 'easy' answers for those self-improvement conversions during a time of stale 'self-help' fodder.
what i find compelling today...and, without getting too thickly deep....gerry seems attracted to the journey into manhood, the journey of the 'hero'....by exploring fully what modern man has missed...the ushering into manhood by close mentors (namely, father) and culture celebrating that threshold and it was THE very same 'thing' that had catapulted dr. dyer toward his 'quest' for connection and knowledge into 'manhood'. where he had tapped into a larger social/global conscious need of something. something that perhaps 'lacked' adding to the strong desire to 'fill in' and complete. 'seeking'. seeking what? fulfillment? ooooh, i could go on and on and on and....LOL....enough....sorry ladies....just shut me up...nicely....no bitch please...just, shut me up...who's this site about anyhoo...not me...right LOL...it's about gerry....right....oh well....can't help getting on a soap box...all the time, eh?

Dawn, I bet Gerry has read Joseph Campbell's work as well, I could see Gerry being very drawn to his writing and ideas. yep, the late joseph campbell was not only an awesome ny college professor (so's told) but, was a great historian and writer as well. his work was such an eye opener showing how the vaious myths & legends worldwide relate to each other by sharing a few stories so similiar yet springing out of completely different eras and geography. fun stuff. 'a legacy passed down to earthy peoples by earthy peoples for earthy peoples'... fantasy number #182 - sitting in a small cafe sipping earl grey tea conversing over 'j.campbells 'myth makers' with gerry across a linen table...just chatting away.....(hand over cheek resting on elbow) **(sigh)**ker-plunk
