I would like to tell my version of the LAC UrbanWorld screening. I too was there and it was a fantastic night. The movie was everything Shadow said and MORE! It was suspenseful, thrilling, and full of twists and turns. Gerry plays a bad guy SO well!
My friends and I got there early, like 3:00. There really was no need to get there so early but we were told by someone who attends LA premieres to get there at noon! We thought "no way" LOL. So we had to wait until 6:15 until we were let into the theater lobby. The red carpet was on the 4th floor and we were behind a rope and watched some of the stars get interviewed. I saw Bruce McGill and got a pic with him.
The the elevator doors open and out steps the man himself, looking so gorgeous in Dolce & Gabbana. We were standing right by the door when he came out and he came over and said hello, signed pics, etc. He was surrounded by his "people" who made sure he went down the press line quickly.
Then it was time to go into the theater. I was fortunate enough to be in the theater where he was also. First he presented FGG with a lifetime achievement award. He was funny and said how he was the only actor in FGG's movies who hasn't been nominated for or won an Oscar. I yelled out "Yet!" and he seemed flattered by it but of course made a self-deprecating joke along the lines of "Marlon Brando look out." He was so cute and silly.
The movie was great and he was amazing. You will all be thrilled with it and his performance. Then it was time to exit. I could see where he was sitting during the screening and waited for him to leave first. As Shadow said, he was indeed mobbed as soon as he left the theater. It must have taken a half hour to get to the elevator, a mere 50 feet away. He spoke with us for a few minutes, commenting on how much more fun it was to play the bad guy. He took pictures and greeted fans and friends. Several burly men were in charge of getting him onto the elevator. Once he got in my daughter and I fled to the lobby hoping to see him once the elevator came down.
We got to the lobby before the elevator arrived. It took a long time to get downstairs but we were one of only a handful of people in the lobby so we thought we'd have a pretty good chance of getting to say hello to him. Then finally the doors open and a few people get out and then there he is! He went over to the LAC poster in the lobby and posed with it. Then he came towards us and I asked if he'd please take a picture with my daughter and he said "Sure" I took the pic, thanked him, asked for a hug (which I got - damn that man gives good hugs!) and said goodbye.
As he was leaving he said "Did you like the movie?" I said "Yes!" and he said "I fucking scared myself!" He's so adorable and funny. I hope you all get your own "Gerry moment."

That was so awesome for you and your daughter... I now want my Gerry moment and, if I am able to string two words together, I am asking for a pic with him AND a hug... I want a Gerry hug so bad, I hear he's a good hugger (I also heard he's a good kisser, but I'm not THAT brave to ask him for one of those).

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hi everyone! Not sure if i'm posting this in the right place but think i should share my encounter with peeps who will appreciate it. I've been a huge fan since Timeline and have been smitten ever since. So when i heard he was going back to Glasgow for the LAC premiere i knew i had to go. The only problem was that Nov 15th was my son Adam's 12th b/day so after giving my better half the news i was off in persuit of 'The Butler' i had to clear it with Adam. He said he didnt mind at all as he had things olanned with his friends anyway. So my best friend Mairead and i booked the ferry from Belfast to Scotland and off we went. When he finally got there he was so lovely to the fans, greeting as many as physically possible which is very important. I found him to be shorter than i expected. He smelt unbelievable and his stubble rubbemy right cheek (face lol) which is something i shall never forget. Here it is www.youtube.com/watch?v=x0s8J0CxoXMIt was worth all the effort for those few seconds of Gerry madness. If you ever get the chance to do the same, do it! Cathy x

I've never met the Butler myself, but what an awesome experience, and you got him on film too. Very cool. Shorter than you imagined? I'm only 5'4, so everyone is taller than me. You are a very lucky woman.

Gammagirl that was amazing! I was so sick the day you posted, I just now saw it. If he ever hugged me like that, I might have to try to throw him over my shoulder and run away with him!

I've yet to meet him myself Queenie, but I have had the chance to talk to his mum online through my membership at the Comrie Foundation, Scotland. I donate a % of sales from my art company each month to the above foundation, making me an associate. I met Margaret through 1 other lady in the village, and the first thing she said was her son was an actor, GB, and I was pretty surprised. Happy too. I did mention I knew of her son's movies, etc. At the time I spoke to her online, she asked what I did, and I mentioned novelist, chef, playwright, artist. We exchanged recipes, a chocolate torte for one, which led on to my current play, Little Scotland Memoirs. She asked if I shared my stories and would I send her a chapter. I do share my ideas, stories, plays and never turn down a request, or how else will I know if people would like it, right? So, It was on a friday, sent the recipe and 4 chapters of Little Scotland Memoirs, we chatted briefly, and then I heard from her the next afternoon. She mentioned she made the torte and that it lasted all of 5 minutes because her family was in visiting with her. I was pleased, and was actually baking up 1 of her sponge cake recipes that day for a church bake sale on Sunday. In her comments to me, she asked if I could send her the whole play. She had printed it out, left it on the kitchen table at breakfast, and one of her sons had picked it up and was reading it. Asked her where she got it from, and she told them a friend online sent it to her in exchange for a recipe. The son? GB. He was also responsible for eating 1/2 of the torte, laughing, and didn't put it down once he began to read it, and then asked for the rest of it. Margaret told me it was a hit with him, otherwise, he doesnt read much material when he visits her. I was pretty stunned. I sent her the rest of the play, which is completely done now and enroute to a contest in Arizona for a local play festival. The story is fun, tender and Scottish..About 5 scottish actors who are trying to make it in the Big Apple/ New York City, but find themselves typecasted, and always in kilts. When one of their fellow actors is taken down with Lymes disease, and he can't afford his rent and medical insurance, they combine their resources and move in with a full figured lingerie model, Vienna McBride, who helps them out and falls in love with one of the actors. Anyways, there is lots of fun, humor, drinking, American bashing, kilt info, Scottish towns mentioned and deep talk about leaving home for big dreams. And I wrote GB into it. Later, had to take his name out, but left his physical personage in it. So, thats what he read, and then wrote to me personally to ask if anyone had dibs on it? Ah, nope. Our conversation was thorough and brief, but thats my current connection to GB, as of 2009. I think he was in Comrie at the time visiting his mum, and had attended a movie at the local video house there. So, thats my only connection or meeting. I still talk to his mum at least 2x a week, mostly about cooking, the foundation, and my trip to Comrie later this year to write my 2nd novel of my book series, Love and Kilts. My 2nd book is titled, The Spiritbadge. My research takes me to the village of Comrie to check out info on the White Church, and blend in ideas for the story. I post info in my books and plays on real Scottish towns and historical sites, because publications can be advertised in the gift stores and museums. If you write a book, fiction or non, and have info that is true inside the book, the National Historical Society of Scotland will sell that product in their gift stores. Anyways, thats my big connection. Heather

Heather that is a terrific way to encounter Gerry! His Mother sounds like a delightful woman. I loved that Gerry ate the torte while reading your play. Thank you so much for sharing your Gerry story with us. Good luck with your play!

That is an amazing story, Heather. I could totally see Gerry eating half a torte, he has a sweet tooth and has had to sneak cupcakes when he's on set. I also heard his mum is a really sweet woman, verra bonny and I can see where Gerry gets his looks.
