IMO ...Somebody had said something about middle age stories...like Ivanhoe, I think it would be interesting. It's not my kind but I'll see if Mr Butler were in it. When I 1st read about a project with Ms Aniston, it was like a musical western do you remember? I imediately remember a movie with Howaed Keel and Doris Day called "Calamity Jane" . I would like to see Mr Butler singing again even if it was a comedy but about Lawrence of Arabia...huh! I don"t know. I don't like the combination Gerard Butler + camels... hey dena...yeah...a musical, nice! he sang in phantom and psiloveyou. any other films? yeah, a musical....... ......kings of leon...sex on fire ... lets hum a few bars......

....haahhahahh dianne....those bicyclist...(snuff) in white...you think of every detail i belted out such a loud 'cackle' everyone came running over to see if mom's having another coronary 'oh...those ladiies again' they're getting used to the outbursts... back to the movies...i like the (oh gawd, now i forgot). . . .middle age...no, medieval...yeah i agree with dena (?) gerard has this 'ancient heroic look' very mediterranean, greek-ish, roman-ish, scott-ish ...like a carved piece of marble...doesn't he? forgive my blasphemy...BUTT...last night we watched the 'last samurai' love, love, love tom cruise(can't help it) and ken takamata...ooohhh yeah, very classic too! .....don't mean to sound like a broken record BUTT... i think gerard butler and tom cruise should do that eastern indian love epic 'one eyed idol' by poet john milton hayes ! honestly though, whether its a old doris day western musical or emma / pigmalian love story....it's all good 'cause he's THAT good.

This is such a great topic!
OK, here are my choices in no particular order:
- A sappy, dramatic, intense love story! A period piece like Sense and Sensibility where he can wear ruffled shirts like Erik and high waisted pants. MFL, those freakin pants in POTO!!!!! I want to see him love sick in a movie where he has this insane mad love for a woman that he is forbidden to love. [think The Thorn Birds without him being a priest]- Both he and she are madly in love with each other, but it's forbidden. He has to have her so he takes her, screws her brains out, she gets pregnant and claims it to be her other lovers (a man she was forced to marry)! His character tries to kill her lover and goes insane in the process losing himself in his madness and subsequently the love of his life!
- Willie Wonka! I know, it's been done to perfection by Gene Wilder and to a much lesser extent Johnny Depp, but I think Gerry would be amazing in that humorous/dramatic role of the very intense Mr. Wonka. I can so picture him with that top hat.
- James Bond! I love Daniel Craig as Bond, but I think Gerry would step it up to another level. He would be amazing doing the action and of course the romancing. He is so manly and would have been the perfect choice in this role. Too bad it didn't happen. The accent, would have rocked in this role!
- The destroyed man! I think we will see this in LAC from what I have read. I always wanted to see him as a man that has to work his way back up from a tragedy. Losing his wife and daughter to murder in LAC will be a great, intense and amazing role for Gerry and I think he is going to pull it off beyond our expectations! My take was more about him being a drunk who kills a family in a car accident when falling asleep at the wheel on his way home from a bar. He is found guilty and does one year in jail. Loses his license for life, but more importantly he lost everything else his wife and children leave him, his career is ruined and his drinking becomes even more destructive and he tries to drink himself to death. The guilt he lives with becomes too much for him to cope with so intense and blinding!- he is destroyed, but he has a spiritual moment in where he finds his way back and spends the movie proving he has changed and fights to get back his family or at least the love of his kids.
- Challenged disability. I know, this is strange, but I think Gerry has the range to pull this off. Think Russell Crowe as John Nash, but also a little Sean Penn in I Am Sam. He is a man that has been tossed aside by society because he is different and slow. Lives alone, works a menial job, has no family to care for him, few friends other than his dog and some cats. One day he starts to befriend a young girl in his beaten down apartment bldg. He saves her one night on her way home from school from a gang on the street harrassing her. She learns to trust him and they become very close. Soon her grandmother learns of their relationship/friendship and accuses him of having sexually assulted her granddaughter and tells the police....
I have a million more! I am a huge movie buff and love dramas. I really think Gerry is an untapped talent. I know that may sound strange, but I still think he has not reached near what his abilities are. The movies, scripts he has done to date have been middle of the ground. He has the talent to really do some amazing things on film. I hope he finds the right material (I think LAC is the start) and the execs see him more than the Hunk or the Action Hero.

Princetongal dearest, thank you for bringing this thread back to its senses !!! LOL
I agree with you 100% - with the possible exception of Willy Wanka, but i'm prejudiced, he's not my fav hero. Your post was so very intense and full with great ideas and best arguments for each role. I believe also that Gerard deserves better than the Hunk or the Action hero....I'm sure he is understanding it himself.....let's hope his agent will, too !!!

Princeton & Sass, I totally agree. In one of my very first posts I warn everyone that his megastardom is coming. Right now he's showing RANGE with the variety of movies he's got going. Hopefully, he will be allowed to show his DEPTH soon. I think LAC will hint at this. The movie of unrequited love would KILL me. I'd be jumping up and down in the theater screaming, "Forget her! You can have ME! You can have ME!"

Give this man a sword and and cod piece and I am there. I love period pieces, or a sword and a kilt. I actually wouldn't mind seeing him do a horror piece like Van Helsig -- something of that nature. He made a great vampire, I wouldn't mind seeing him revisit that but with a better script. I wouldn't mind seeing him take on a real challenge like something on the lines of One Flew over the Cuckoos Nest. I think Gerry could do insane. Or a real life cop or fireman drama. Gerry in uniform! I would love to see him do Total Recall....That would be awesome!

Gerry is too connected with his emotions and they are written all over his face. The way his face portrays the emotions is one of my favorite things about him. Now Pusuit of Happyness or something like that oy. I love seening him work with kids. Kidergarten Cop Type movie. I know evil twins has Teacher Man as a project but those are teen agers High School Kids
