I just saw this over on GlobalFans, where a poster translated part of an interview Gerry did for a Spanish magazine:
To Butler, popularity brings to mind an incident with an obsessive fan: “It was telephone calls and they drove me crazy. It was in Canada, I was chased by a woman that was crazy and one day she left me a message saying that she was going to commit suicide for me. She called me during one night every half hour and my agent got a 22 page letter from her.”
I nabbed this gem from the other board.

Thanks Dianne, But dont believe everything you read. :DMy question is how did she get his phone number? How did the agent get that crazed fan's 22 page letter? What made it so special . I am sure hundreds of women write to him . He was even chased by that woman? stalker comes to mind. Somehow I doubt if all that is true? Its like reading all those crazy tabloids........: 'I saw Jesus in my pancake this morning.; Or I saw Elvis coming out of my local cleaners . (proabably went there to get his rhinestones shined , his suits dry cleaned.) If you believe that you'd believe anything. ;D ;D

Slept with a fan who thought way to much about it. (Must be really good...drool) That's probably why he doesn't like to date fans. That crazy lady might be the next chick he sleeps with. (looks at Dianne) Hmmm... ;D

I really don't know if that quote was true of not. I wouldn't doubt it. Everyone knew where he was filming in Vancouver. Everyone knew where he was staying. Also he had to change hotels there when he was filming BOAW because a couple of young fans were knocking on hotel doors trying to find his room. What I do know is that he did date a fan several years ago and she blabbed on a message board and after that he swore off dating fans.
There are a few instances where fans have really stepped over the line. I think it was at TIFF where a fan grabbed his butt. He was really mad. Told her if he had done that to her that she would have probably prosecuted him. Then he told then "why not just grab my c***. I have a really big ....." The last instance that I know of happened when he was at Comic Con. A fan questioned him from the audience. Asked him for a kiss. He ignored her. Afterward she approached him in an area where fans were not allowed. She asked him again for a kiss. He told her sorry. She reached out and touched his arm and he told her to get her f*ing hand off of him. Gerry is very approachable but on his terms. I see nothing wrong with him being that way as long as people are respectful. If they stray beyond the bounderies they deserve his wrath.

Tori, I know there are some doozies out there but for the most part the ladies just know a good thing when they see it and Gerry's a very good thing. The doll crap is embarrassing. If I were to ever see something like that I would chew them out. Stupid! Giving fans a bad light because of their craziness! I have never been to a convention. The closest I have come is to ride to Colorado Springs a couple of years ago with my best bud. She went to the convention and I rode along and spent time with my girlfriend who was my maid of honor who lived there. But I met about 5 ladies. We had lunch and they were so nice. Fun not idiots!
Yes, Gerry needs to be careful but I would hate for him to have to distance himself from fans. He doesn't owe us anything but it is sure nice. He has stepped way back as his popularity has increased.

Yes, i can see that happens ! Don't take it wrong, yet if even Colin Fith (married, restrained, low profile) have been stalked last year, then Gerard is definitely a target....and he shouldn't be. Noone's deserve this. I'm afraid he's paying his naivity of just behaving as his wonderful, extrovert, funny self in most of public appearences therefore creating the false impression he's easy to get in touch too - literally and metaphorically. Maybe that's why there is a certain change in his behavior lately - he seems both reserved and very introvert -almost unhappy. I know he's drop dead sexy and gorgeous but the sooner he will put away the "sexy idol" label, the best for him and his career...

It's all these bad apples spoiling it for the rest of us who would like to meet him, tell him how much we love his films, maybe ask for an autograph. He has to be really careful and it's sad that these gurls are taking advantage of his easy going, fun loving attitude that we all love about him. I like seeing him act silly, it's so cute.

Very true...Deb I love the stories, give us more on the crazy fans.
To tell you the truth I talk a good game but I am actually very happily married and this board is just a fun hobby and a fun place to make friends around the world with other nice ladies.
I would be very hesitant about approaching him in public. I actually would be more inclined to respect his space and privacy. I would never approach him while he was eating....NEVER!!!! If he was with a date or friends.... I doubt if I would approach him at all or if I did it would be very apologetically, and I would acknowledge his date politely. I would NEVER ask him for a hug. Who wants to be groped?

She asked for his autograph, which he gave, but then he went to kiss her, and she had to duck out of the way! Personal space is important!! I've asked a few people for autographs, but only in places they'd expect it, like the stage door, or the theatre bar. Even then, I'm pretty reticent. Except Michael Ball. I saw him in the street, all alone, so I had to ask. He was not famous then, so I think he was pleased. He was certainly very adorable about it!!

I saw him in the street, all alone, so I had to ask. He was not famous then, so I think he was pleased. He was certainly very adorable about it!! Awe that's cool about Michael Ball. The only famous person I ever saw was a former Detroit Tiger. He is a legend in Detroit and in the Hall of Fame. He announced the games on TV for a number of years as well, Al Kaline. I was at Tiger stadium and we had gotten there for the game early and I was with a date and lagging behind him. The elevator doors opened up and there was Al Kaline...I hesitated and smiled at him. and he smiled back and said hello. He probably would have been gracious and given me an autograph but I could see he was in a hurry. So I took my smile and my hello and went on my merry way. My husband was at a Walgreen's and Quiet Riot was in town. My hubby as going to the concert that night and we live near the venue. As he was walking into Walgreens the guy that they found dead of an overdose this year was walking out. He stopped for a moment and he and my hubby had a very pleasant conversation. This happened last summer.
