Great news!!! www.comingsoon.net/horror/news/781451-butler-and-mullan-to-headline-lighthouse-horror-flick-keepersButler and Mullan to Headline Lighthouse Horror Flick Keepers Award-winning Danish filmmaker Kristoffer Nyholm to direct new mystery thriller Keepers 300 star Gerard Butler will join Session 9’s Peter Mullan in Danish director Kristoffer Nyholm’s new thriller Keepers, a dark psycho-creeper about trio of lighthouse keepers pitted against each other on a remote island off the coast of Scotland. Joe Alwyn joins the pair as the third “keeper.” The film will be fully financed by Cross Creek Pictures (Hacksaw Ridge, Black Mass, Black Swan, Rush, Everest). Production Company Mad as Birds confirmed that the film is set for an early 2017 shoot in the UK. Protagonist Pictures will introduce the project to buyers during AFM this week. Nyholm, whose TV credits include the classic first series of The Killing from Denmark’s DR, hit UK miniseries The Enfield Haunting and upcoming period adventure Taboo starring Tom Hardy for FX and BBC, will direct Keepers from a script by BAFTA Cymru Nominated screenwriter Celyn Jones (co-writer and star of Set Fire to the Stars) and actor/writer Joe Bone (Castles in the Sky). Keepers will be produced by Andy Evans, Ade Shannon and Sean Marley for Mad as Birds, Butler and Alan Siegel for G-BASE and Brian Oliver for Cross Creek Pictures. The project was brought into Cross Creek by Jason Seagraves who will serve as Executive Producer. The film is cast and co-produced by Reg Poerscout-Edgerton. Here’s the synopsis: On an uninhabited island 20 miles from the rugged Scottish coast, three lighthouse keepers arrive for their six week shift. As Thomas (Mullan), James (Butler) and Donald (Alwyn) settle into their usual, solitary routines, something unexpected and potentially life-changing occurs- they stumble upon something that isn’t theirs to keep. Where did it come from? Who does it belong to? A boat appears in the distance that might hold the answer to these questions… What follows is a tense battle for survival as personal greed replaces loyalty – and fed by isolation and paranoia, three honest men are led down a path to destruction. Says director Kristoffer Nyholm of today’s casting: “I feel incredibly fortunate to have Gerard Butler, Peter Mullan and Joe Alwyn leading the cast of ‘Keepers’ – great actors who are deeply committed to this project, and who will go the distance. These men are the strong and unique characters at the heart of this story, which is a journey from innocence to animalistic survival. ‘Keepers’ was great to read, will be an adventure to make, and terrifying to watch!” We’re always looking for some sort of new kick when it comes to terror and we haven’t seen a decent lighthouse-centric horror movie since John Carpenter’s The Fog. Could Keepers be a keeper? We’ll update you on the production as it proceeds…

www.facebook.com/1joebone?hc_ref=SEARCH&fref=nfAbout ten years ago Georgia and I went and sat on the downs, just above St Catherine’s lighthouse at sundown. The revolving beam, seemingly on the edge of the world, and the eerie isolation got me thinking about what was going on inside there. I went home and looked up lighthouse tales. I discovered the true story of the Flannan Isle mystery, off Scotland’s west coast. Three keepers went missing, never to be seen again. What a yarn, I thought. That could make a great movie… Years later I met the wonderful Celyn Jones on the set of Castles in the Sky. One morning in Edinburgh, over bacon and eggs, I told him about the mystery. With boundless enthusiasm Cel said, "Wow! We should write the film!” “Sure," I thought, “but I’ve never written one” “Well I have, and you’ve written plays. Let’s do it!” “OK. Well, whilst we’re wallowing in fantasy why don’t we get the likes of Scotland’s finest, Peter Mullan and Gerard Butler to play the Keepers?!” “Why not!” “Alright you crazy fool. Let’s give it a shot”. Fuelled with energy and passion we embarked on a fascinating journey into the lives of the three keepers, using the mystery as a departure point to examine their relationship, settling on a dark thriller exploring human frailty and trust. For a year and a half we poured our hearts and minds onto the page, throwing everything we had into the pot. Eventually we presented a draft. Kristoffer Nyholm, director of The Killing, read it. He committed to the project, “Wow," we thought, “that’s pretty amazing.” Then Peter Mullan read it, he committed to the play one of the keepers, "You’re kidding!" Joe Alwyn agreed to play another, “No way!”. Then Gerard Butler read it… The film is being made next year. Here are the details guys. Dream big. Don’t stop.

The movie is based on the story of missing lighthouse keepers on Flannan Isles, Scotland 1900.
Video from The History Channel, but there are many other creepy theories on Youtube...

www.heraldscotland.com/news/14834962.New_lighthouse_movie_starring_Gerard_Butler_to_illuminate_one_of_Scotland__39_s_most_baffling_mysteries/?ref=twshr&shareimg=3993472#It is one of Scotland's enduring mysteries, a haunting incident at a remote lighthouse twenty miles west of Lewis that has inspired poets, composers and even rock bands. Now the mystery of the disappearance of three lighthouse keepers from the Flannan Isles Lighthouse, on Eilean Mor, is to reach the big screen, with a star cast featuring Hollywood actors Gerard Butler and Peter Mullan, and up and coming young talent Joe Alwyn. The movie casts a dramaitc new spin on the 1900 mystery, when keepers Thomas Marshall, James Ducat and Donald MacArthur vanished from the lighthouse in parlous weather. No sign of struggle was found in the lighthouse: only an overturned chair and one set of unusued oilskins was found, suggesting one of the keepers had left without them - but the beds were unmade, the clocks stropped, the lamps clean and refilled, with the island itself severely damaged by storms. The mystery, in which the bodies of the men were never found, inspired a Doctor Who episode Horror of Fang Rock, a Genesis song, Wilfrid Wilson Gibson's ballad Flannan Isle and The Lighthouse, an opera by the late Sir Peter Maxwell Davies. The mystery is now the basis for the movie, Keepers, which sees "a trio of lighthouse keepers pitted against one another" and could be shot in Scotland next year. It will be directed by the award winning Danish film maker Kristoffer Nyholm, who directed The Killing and The Enfield Haunting. It is being made by Mad as Birds, a production company based in Wales and Yorkshire, as well as Cross Creek Pictures, who worked on Black Mass, Rush, Everest and the forthcoming Hacksaw Ridge. A synopsis for the film suggests a more fanciful take on the fate of the keepers than perhaps what happened in reality - a lighthouse board investigation suggested the men had been swept away by a freak wave whilst working on the island's damaged landing. It says: "As Thomas (Mullan), James (Butler) and Donald (Alwyn) settle into their usual, solitary routines, something unexpected and potentially life-changing occurs- they stumble upon something that isn’t theirs to keep. Where did it come from? Who does it belong to? A boat appears in the distance that might hold the answer to these questions… What follows is a tense battle for survival as personal greed replaces loyalty - and fed by isolation and paranoia, three honest men are led down a path to destruction." The script has been written by screenwriter Celyn Jones and actor and writer Joe Bone. Nyholm said: “I feel incredibly fortunate to have Gerard Butler, Peter Mullan and Joe Alwyn leading the cast of Keepers- great actors who are deeply committed to this project, and who will go the distance. "These men are the strong and unique characters at the heart of this story, which is a journey from innocence to animalistic survival. Keepers was great to read, will be an adventure to make, and terrifying to watch." Mad as Birds are supported by Ffilm Cymru Wales and as yet Creative Scotland are not involved in the film. The producers hope to film in Scotland, they said, but locations will not be decided until before Christmas. Co-writers Jones and Bone said in a statement: “Our objective was to create a unique script that Kristoffer wanted to direct, great actors wanted to perform and a wide audience will want to see. "We also wanted to say something poignant about trust and the frailty of the human condition. "Keepers has all the shock and awe life can offer, wrapped up in a film that we hope will cling to its audience well after the last reel stops turning in the cinema." Protagonist Pictures are selling the international rights to the fillm, Its chief executive, Mike Goodridge, said: “This project has been close to our hearts for a couple of years now, so it’s exciting to see it come together with such a perfect cast. "We have been waiting for Kristoffer Nyholm to commit to his first feature film, so are thrilled to be presenting this heartstoppingly suspenseful package."
