Gerard Butler Stars As Job Recruiter With A Family Crisis In ‘The Headhunter’s Calling’
Gerard Butler is trading his action-hero stripes for a dramatic turn in The Headhunter’s Calling, from first-time director Mark Williams. The Olympus Has Fallen and 300 series star will play Dane Jensen, a corporate headhunter who works at Blackrock Recruiting arranging jobs for engineers. He is well on his way to achieving his longtime work goal of taking over the company when his 10-year-old son falls ill and his personal and professional priorities clash. The Judge scribe Bill Dubuque wrote the script.
Production begins October 26 in Toronto on the pic, which Butler and Williams will produce with Alan Siegel. Dubuque, Danielle Robinson and Dan Bekerman are exec producing. Voltage Pictures has taken international rights to the pic and will be selling it at the Toronto International Film Festival this month. CAA brokered the deal and also will handle the domestic sale.
The Scotland-born Butler voiced Stoick in the How To Train Your Dragon films and most recently starred in Playing For Keeps and Olympus Has Fallen. He recently wrapped roles in the latter’s London Has Fallen, Dean Devlin’s Geostorm and Alex Proya’s Gods Of Egypt. He next stars in Hunter Keeper opposite Willem Dafoe, Billy Bob Thornton and Common. He is repped by CAA and Alan Siegel Entertainment.
Dubuque, who also wrote the upcoming Ben Affleck film The Accountant, is with CAA, Zero Gravity Management and Bloom Hergott.

My heart is so happy about this movie coming to fruition. Sooner than I expected. Just had to write and say a big thank you for posting. I hope that production and distribution especially goes well this time for Gerry's sake and ours to of course. I think this is a movie dear to him and just can't be any happier. GO GERRY!

I'm encouraged that Bill Dubuque has written the screenplay. I enjoyed The Judge very much. variety.com/2012/film/news/dubuque-corporate-headhunter-followed-calling-1118062630/After 12 years of working as a corporate headhunter, Dubuque was ready for a change. “It gets to the point where you just want to do something different,” says Dubuque, who switched to screenwriting. “I was confident that I could do this. I went to the library, got as many books as I could find about how to write a screenplay and went at it.” And yet, Dubuque’s unlikely background has proved a unique benefit to his approach. His first script, “The Headhunter’s Calling,” drew from life experience, while his writing style was an extension of that job. “More than anything else, my inspiration for the dialogue and the scenery come from headhunting,” he says. “When you’re on the phone and you don’t see these people, you’ve got to fill in the blanks. It’s just like writing a scene.” After “The Headhunter’s Calling” captured the attention of Robert Downey Jr. and his associates, they deemed Dubuque the perfect guy to revise a screenplay the producer-star wanted to make. That project, “The Judge,” tells the story of a bigshot Chicago lawyer who returns to his tiny hometown to defend his estranged father. “It’s not so much a legal drama as it is a relationship drama,” Dubuque says. “It’s a father-and-son story.” With two scripts in the can for Warners, another that he’s working on and an upcoming two-film blind deal to work on projects for Team Downey, Dubuque is definitely in demand. But the self-effacing screenwriter seems content to lie back and let things take their course. “That’s one of the reasons I get along so well with my agent and my manager,” he jokes. “I’m not calling every day and saying ‘What do you hear?’ Fingers crossed!

Great news I was so down that Relativity went into bankruptcy just when Gerry got ready to start filming Hunter Killer which had very good cast so it is good to see he has a new film and one that is already in production. Hope they sell the film at TIFF and we hear of some great cast members. I would love to see Gerry work with Emily Mortimer again.
