Why does Hollywood Reporter article have to go out of the way to exaggerate the negative (or lie). They stated that Bounty Hunter (along with MGP) was box office disappointment. It made over three times budget if I understand Box Office Mojo. Production budget $40 mil. World gross over $136 mil. On a brighter note, don't you love the film industry connections here: Mark Gill was part of The Film Dept., co-producers of Law Abiding Citizen, which went out of business last year and he joined Millenium. Avi Lerner and Millenium also producers of Playing the Field. And best of all: Whoopee!!!! I was jumping up and down in my chair when I read the first article from Variety. Our man is just going to be great in this. I've been worried that The Bricklayer has not come out of development and this film seems like it will give us some of the same kind of excitement.

I agree about the Hollywood Reporter article, between that unflattering photo of Gerry the article was written to make Gerry sound like his career was in the trouble. No mention of PTF release or that Gerry can be seen in Coriolanus right now. Makes me feel that they are selling a narrative of Gerry.

www.indielondon.co.uk/Film-Review/gerard-butler-signs-up-for-olympus-has-fallenGERARD Butler is to play the leading role in Olympus Has Fallen, a new action thriller described as Die Hard in the White House. The actor, who is also helping to develop the project, will reportedly play a down-on-his-luck ex-Secret Service agent who becomes America’s only hope when the White House is taken over by terrorists. Aside from the Die Hard angle, the plot also sounds a lot like one of 24‘s storylines, which saw Jack Bauer intervene to foil a terrorist occupation of America’s most famous address. Production on the movie is due to to start in September. Butler has a busy year ahead of him with filming and pre-release commitments, having also completed Curtis Hanson’s surfing drama Of Men and Mavericks, Hunter Killer and Playing The Field. He’s also set to star in the diamond-heist thriller Brilliant, which starts shooting this spring in Boston and will be lending his voice to animated sequel How To Train Your Dragon 2. The actor was last seen alongside Ralph Fiennes in Coriolanus

www.ineedmyfix.com/2012/03/17/casting-tidbit-gerard-butler-to-the-rescue/According to Variety, just days after Millennium Films acquired Olympus Has Fallen from first-time scribes Creighton Rothenberger and Katrin Benedikt, Gerard Butler has signed on to star in the action pic. The plot sounds like it came from a David Baldacci novel, which is not necessarily a bad thing. (Personally I always thought Butler would make a great Sean King.) Described as Die Hard in the White House, the story follows a “down-on-his-luck ex-Secret Service agent” who becomes America's only hope when the White House is taken over by terrorists. What’s the Scottish equivalent of “Yippee Kayay M*therf**ker”? Butler and his shingle Evil Twins will produce with Millennium’s Mark Gill, Production is scheduled to start in September. Do not ask me how that’s supposed to work. How many movies can he film at once? Diamond-heist thriller Brilliant is due to start shooting this spring in Boston. Hunter Killer and Thunder Run are also supposed to film this year as well. There’s keeping busy and then there’s driving yourself into the ground. Oh well. He’s a big boy.

blogs.indiewire.com/theplaylist/pay-attention-gerard-butler-is-trying-to-let-you-know-that-olympus-has-fallenIt's taken awhile, but Gerard Butler is finally going to answer his calling as an action star. The genre-hopping tough guy found success with a couple of romantic comedies, but his Oscar bid for "Machine Gun Preacher" fell short, so he's redoubling his efforts to become an A-List head-smasher. Butler's attached to Naval thriller "Hunter Killer," war picture "Thunder Run" and a heist film, "Brilliant," and now he's going to follow in the footsteps of fellow tough guys Clint Eastwood, Michael Douglas and Wesley Snipes. You guessed it: he's going to steal the Declaration of Independence save the President Of The United States, in the jargon-y sounding "Olympus Has Fallen." Butler will play an ex-Secret Service agent in the actioner, in charge of stopping a terrorist attack on the White House. No other details have been released, but since he's ex-SS, we do hope he's a rogue and a renegade. Butler's developing the project (which sounds a little like the abandoned Ryan Reynolds project "Motorcade") with neophyte writers Creighton Rothenberger and Katrin Benedikt, and the material is currently out to directors. Expect this to be a down-and-dirty affair, as it's from producer Avi Lerner and his fly-by-night Millennium Films. Millennium -- where the shooting locations are obscure, the actors are paid in cash, and there is almost zero creative oversight. Butler's slate is more than full, and he's got three movies coming this year from different genres. He'll get jokey in "Movie 43" and saucy in sports rom-com "Playing The Field". His best showcase is likely coming in Curtis Hanson's biopic "Of Men And Mavericks," however, playing a mentor to surfer Jay Moriarity. We thought Butler was strong in the recent "Coriolanus," and in a perfect world, he'd be able to do all sorts of films in different genres. But this stockpiling of action roles suggests he realizes he'll be a bit old soon, and it's better to wield a gun now than in the inevitable "Expendables IV."

Deadline reported this a few days ago, but it's very interesting to read the comments below the article... www.deadline.com/2012/03/millennium-acquires-spec-olympus-has-fallen/EXCLUSIVE: Millennium has just closed a deal to acquire Olympus Has Fallen, a Creighton Rothenberger & Katrin Benedikt spec script for a big action movie that’s set in the White House. www.cinemablend.com/new/Gerard-Butler-Protect-White-House-Olympus-Has-Fallen-30028.htmlAfter ending what seems like the world's smoothest and least-publicized stint in rehab, Gerard Butler has wasted no time setting up a lot of work for his newly healthy self. At the end of February he signed on to reunite with his The Ugly Truth director Robert LUketic for the diamond heist thriller Brilliant, and now he's got an even more high-stakes job lined up. According to Variety Butler will star in Olympus Has Fallen, about an ex-Secret Service agent called back into duty when he's suddenly the only person who can defend America against the terrorists who have taken over the White House. That sounds…. insane. But also kind of fantastic, since as Variety themselves point out, it's basically Die Hard set in the White House-- an idea so obvious and brilliant I'm amazed John McClane himself didn't do it at some point. Butler has had big action star potential ever since his breakout role in 300, but he's never quite been able to capitalize on it, winding up in stuff as random as Nim's Island and P.S. I Love You, and only going for the action stuff in crap like Gamer and Law Abiding Citizen. He proved in last year's Shakespeare adaptation Coriolanus that he can really hold the screen with both a physical presence and acting chops, and if he brings even a fraction of that strength to Olympus Has Fallen, he might really have what it takes to be the new generation of John McClane. Millennium Films just acquired the Olympus Has Fallen spec from writers Creighton Rothenberger and Katrin Benedikt, so it will likely be a while before the project gets going in earnest.

Thanks Elenoire!!!! blogs.indiewire.com/theplaylist/roland-emmerich-looks-to-blow-up-the-white-house-again-with-action-pic-white-house-downRoland Emmerich Looks To Blow Up The White House Again With Action Pic 'White House Down' News by Kevin Jagernauth | April 2, 2012 10:32 PM | 4 Comments He already blew up the White House once in "Independence Day" so why not make it the setting for an action film? That's likely the answer Roland Emmerich is giving to the question no one asked, as Deadline reports that the director is in talks to direct the hottest script of the year (so far), "White House Down." Purchased by Sony last week for a staggering $3 million, the plot of the script by James Vanderbilt ("Zodiac," "The Amazing Spider-Man") is being kept under wraps, but is said to be an action flick about a paramilitary takeover of the White House (probably by terrorists is our guess), in the vein of "Die Hard" meets "Air Force One," which probably made a lot of execs cream their pants. And bearing more than a passing similarity to the other White House action movie "Olympus Has Fallen," recently announced, with Gerard Butler in the leading role, it's no surprise the studio wants this one knocked out fast. Remember Emmerich's sci-fi thingy "Singularity" that was recently moved to a November 1, 2013 release date? Well, he's still on that project set up at Sony's sister company Columbia Pictures, but the plan is that he'll knock this one out first. That should give more than enough time for author and futurist Ray Kurzweil to continue tinkering on the script, after being brought on board the project last fall. Now the big question is: who will be the hero who saves the day?

This is good news for Olympus but not good news for Hunter Killer which Antoine Fuqua was to direct being made anytime soon. Antoine Fuqua Circling 'Olympus' as White House Thriller Race Heats UpGerard Butler is set to star in one of two competing movies described as " 'Die Hard' in the White House." 3:49 PM PDT 4/10/2012 by Borys Kit share It’s the race to destroy the White House. our editor recommends Gerard Butler to Foil a White House Invasion in 'Olympus Has Fallen' Sony Plunking Down $3 Million for 'White House Down' by James Vanderbilt Antoine Fuqua has an offer and is in early talks to direct Olympus Has Fallen, an Nu Image/Millennium action thriller that has been described as “Die Hard in the White House." The project achieved new urgency last week after Columbia acquired White House Down, its own Die Hard-esque script set at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. The studio plunked down $3 million for the script by Jamie Vanderbilt and is in talks with Roland Emmerich, who memorably blew up the White House in 1996's Independence Day, to direct. Olympus has a leg up on Down because it already has an actor attached. THR previously reported that Gerard Butler is on board to star as an unlikely Secret Service agent trying to stop terrorists who have taken over the White House. The script, by first-time scribes Creighton Rothenberger and Katrin Benedikt, was picked up by Millennium in early March. The race to the screen is so intense, according to insiders, that Millennium is fast-tracking Olympus for a June production start. Butler is producing with Millennium president Mark Gill; the two worked together on Law-Abiding Citizen). Butler's manager Alan Siegel also is producing. Fuqua may be best known for directing Training Day, the crime thriller that won Denzel Washington an Oscar for best actor, and he most recently directed the 2009 crime drama Brooklyn’s Finest. He is repped by CAA and Ziffren Brittenham. www.hollywoodreporter.com/heat-vision/antoine-fuqua-olympus-gerard-butler-310176
