OHMYGOD! just got this blurb while weeding out hotmail! geesh! have been gone (due to crazy, hectic nursing school, teenager, homesteading, work...et cetera)....WHAT? GERRY ALMOST DROWNED!! thank the almighty LORD of heaven and EARTH gerry's an athlete and he made it through! ((thankyouthankyouthankyouthankyouGod) do you REALIZE the tremendous pressure and load that bore down while he was pinned against that rocky bottom? Oh My God.....i'm literally shaken up over this! literally...had a dream about gerry a coupleof days ago, he's weighed onmy mind....NOW THIS!!! i hear you LTL..and of course, don't worry, your intent is well meaning....anyway, YES....i would love to take on the job of kicking gerrys sweet ass and then kissing his boo-boos!! YeoW! but, in all seriousness...of course he understood the magnitude and risk....he's no dummy BUT, willing to put life and limb at risk for the sake of his art! thats what it boils down to....so many leaps have been made in the film industry to protect the crew, talent and animals.....thank GOD almighty the right people were inplace that day to help him get out. i am SO very glad that gerry will arrive to celebrate lovely Christmas with family & friends. he is so very loved by so many in so many ways. That was so eloquent Dawne. That was so eloquent Dawne. ...."eloquence" is my middle NAME!..... ...NOT! i know, i know dianne...((smacks forehead)) geesh? but, in all seriousness, like mentioned, of course as with everybody, life just seems to be crashing foreward at high speeds especially around the holidays and end of the year business. when i finally popped onto the site WOGB and saw what had happened to gerry a couple of days beforehand...WHOOSH! what a visceral reaction....BOOM! (probably b/c of the weird dream i had right around that time...EEeeeks!>?i write as i think... as i feel....and, it quick and immediate....nothing barred & probably very sloppy.....and more than likely - unfortunate for the reader ) anyway, enough said....it seems 'G' is doing good now and all the girls on here are enjoying their holidays, which is a good thing. i am glad they've wrapped up the filming @ mavericks. yAy! they absolutely can plug in extra clips here and there as needed (tons of surfing archives...just ask stacey peralta ) ......saw promos of MGP on a new DVD release recently .....YaY, so glad some promotion is going on.....totally missed this film while at theatre and, speaking of theatres....a national company is having a psa indicating films should not be 'minimized' to fit a 19' tv screen....i'd have to agree. like said before, films are 'events' (the world used to get its news that way)...there is such monumental power and influence in film....it shouldn't be brought down to the common place of livingroom viewing....sort of like whats happening with camera phones....its ridiculous. BUT, this is another conversation............ Happy New Year to all!

I don't know who said it but they said something about not being too hard on the pros who took him out there. They should be fired! Well, the filming is over so too late. This is not professional that the 3 of them thought is was okay for Gerry to go out there. Don't you all understand he shouldn't have been out there?

I guess nobody sees it the way I do. I hope these pros are held accountable for their lame decisions. I hope Gerard is not happy with what they did. I hope he doesn't blow it off just to be a nice guy.

I hope so. It shouldn't happen again. They knew the dangers. Was it the new director who failed? It shouldn't be no harm, no foul. It's one thing taking risks on your own time but this was his job. Isn't this what stunt doubles are for?

Yeah I think we're glad Gerry's safe and sound and having fun with his loved ones. But still whatever twat who thought it was ok to let a beginner surfer like G go where pros have been killed, needs a good boot up his arse to kick start his brain. Thank god he's ok and safe.

Isn't this what stunt doubles are for? and y'know mymy....i absolutely agree your take that there should have been (PRE-PRODUCTION) much conversation concerning the risks of gerry voyaging out there as a newbie surfer (less than 3 years)...and YES, ab-so-f#@%ing-lutely....that is what 'body doubles' are for....not to put the 'talent' in any harms way.....because for the most part it is 'ACTING' for Gods sake. personally, my head went dizzy upon discovering the near doom our lovely gent almost faced.....i am affectionately toward gerard butler. i sincerely love this man. there's no going back at this point. i'm in 'this' for the long haul. ((as most of the fans on this board are )) and, when it dawned on me that the staff of this film actually didn't talk gerry out of going out there broiled my skin....THEN, it suddenly occurred to me that gerry is a very physical person. take note on most of his roles....albeit a few...each and every character is running and jumping and rolling and blasting and climbing....et cetera. gerry is an athlete. he has control over what he does. its his body. acting is also a way for him to fully live and feel human. to explore fully all aspects of his physicality. he takes calculated risks. this idea is just a hunch...i could be totally off the mark.?? at this point, there is must be an absolute amount of trust in his good judgement and an even bigger amount of faith that His plans for gerry are well laid out. personally, i can't stand the idea of not having gerry in this world altogether...and, perhaps when gerry does settledown and find that special one to marry....he'll think more in terms of 'we' .....just sayin'...........

I guess he's just a very trusting guy. I'm just glad he's alright and having fun. I guess there's someone watching over him with him getting shot at and hurting his forehead only minorly. And with him being there to save those young lads too. I guess it's good karma for him being a good, jolly and funny soul.

Gerry has an executive producer credit on this film and it was him, and him alone, that decided he wanted to surf Mavericks. He surfed it for the film the weekend before with no trouble, and many Half Moon Bay locals saw him do a great job. He cares about his craft and we shouldn't be surprised that he wants to make the film as real as possible for us all to enjoy. What was his training for if he doesn't get to use it? He's not a child and if he wants to surf Mavericks, let him! We love him for it!!!

I get what you're saying sweetie. We all Know Gerry's a big boy and can take care of himself but still it was a very dangerous thing to do can you blame Gerry's fan for being angry? He could have died. And what about his sweet mother? No one should ever lose a child. I bet she's over the moon to have her son safe and sound.

Even though I agree that Gerry shouldn't have been out there I still think we shouldn't judge the pros too harshly. At the end it was their training that saved Gerry's life. He knew what to do in this situation and combined with his being strong and athletic was able to save his life.
