Thanks to fuxake, we discover a previously unknown film. Gerry is a narrator in this documentary about dolphins...The film isn't listed on imdb, so it doesn't appear on Gerry's page...It premiered at Cannes film festival last year ...The cast is well known (Kate Winslett, Ellen Page, James Franco, Isabella Rossellini, Julian Lennon etc), so it is a mystery why nothing about this film surfaced before... www.dolphinmovie.com/"Gerard Butler was the last actor to participate in the story telling of NA NAI'A Legend of The Dolphins. I had always envisioned a Scottish actor to tell the actual legends of the dolphins, how they started off 50 million years ago and how they evolved. In searching the world for the finest Scottish voice, I listened to Gerard Butler’s voice and was immediately mesmerized. I was determined to have Gerard Butler be the storyteller of the legend of the dolphins. I asked him to participate and within days I got a positive “Yes! I would love to do this.” He told me about his wonderful encounters with dolphins in California on Catalina Island, which inspired him to participate on this film. The dolphins enchanted him and really touched his soul, so he really wanted to participate on this project. His voice is brilliant." www.dolphinmovie.com/press.htmlDirector Jonathon Kay at Cannes last year... www.zimbio.com/pictures/36ILJZaYYvV/Na+Nai+Legend+Dolphins+Photocall+63rd+Cannes

Screening of this documentary is going to be at the Maui Film Festival - The Maui Film Festival, returning to Wailea and the MACC June 15 to 19, has announced its latest va-va-voom luminary: Megan Fox will receive its new Iris Award. Probably best known for her “Transformers” rolls, the young actress will accept the honor at a gala opening-night ceremony at the festival’s majestic outdoor Celestial Cinema, followed by a screening of “Na Nai‘a: Legend of the Dolphins,” in which she shares the narrating duties with a host of other stars. www.mauinews.com/page/blogs.detail/display/3113/Pirates--plunder.htmlThis sounds like a wonderful documentary maybe it doesn't have a distributor yet and will make more rounds at film festivals before coming out on DVD.

I emailed the producer/director of this movie about how to go about obtaining a DVD of it, and this is what I got back from him:

Aloha Tense!
Thanks for your message.
We are almost finished the movie NA NAI'A LEGEND OF THE DOLPHINS but are needing to raise funding for final edits, final music, and final changes to the film to prepare it for distribution and funding for conversion of the movie to 3-D so that it can be projected in theaters in 3-D across the US and internationally!
We have created a webpage at the site below at which you can make a pledge now and get a DVD of the film when the film is completed and released on DVD. Your support of this important film about the dolphins, their message to humanity, and the importance of their survival, by making a pledge at this time on the site below can really make a difference in the completion of NA NAI'A LEGEND OF THE DOLPHINS and in getting the film into distribution in theaters so that everyone can see the film and take part in supporting the dolphins and the global conservation of the oceans of the Earth!
Please share the following webpage link with your friends so that they can participate too and pre-order DVD's of the movie NA NAI'A LEGEND OF THE DOLPHINS!

I just saw this...awesome. Love Dolphins. I have the homepage with the dolphin/ocean sound as my background music right now. It's very relaxing but strangely I have the urge to pee.

You truly are, MG. I took your lead and wrote to the director as well, explaining that I'm a teacher and how awesome it would be to take my students to see this film in the IMAX theater. He liked that idea! He sent me the same link you did and I posted it on my FB. Hopefully between all of us we can help get this movie into 3D!!!!!

The last I looked there had been five pledges, seemed to be all of them the $40.00 pledge, which is what I did yesterday. I hope that this makes it's goal and is able to go forward. It really does look like a beautiful, National Geographicesque type of movie and will appeal to a wide range of people. I would really love to see this happen, not just because Gerry is part of it, but because of the dolphins and their plight. I'm also a member of and support the Cousteau Society, for preservation of our seas and sealife. So I naturally jumped on this when I found out about it.
Peace out... Mareksgirl

Another article.... wow, Whoopi Goldberg is lending her voice as well? She's one of my all-time favorite actresses.... This movie is getting better and better! mauinow.com/2011/06/13/all-star-cast-joins-hawaii-filmmaker-in-bringing-dolphin-magic-to-the-big-screen/Celebrities Join Hawaii Filmmaker on Na Nai’a: Legend of the Dolphins June 13th, 2011 By Katie McMillan What do Kate Winslet, Gerard Butler, Megan Fox James Franco, Whoopi Goldberg, Daryl Hannah, Julian Lennon, Cheech Marin, and Isabella Rossellini have in common? They all lend their voices in Hawaii filmmaker Jonathon Kay’s stunning feature film, Na Nai’a: Legend of the Dolphins, which is making its world premier at the opening night of The Maui Film Festival. The screening takes place on Wednesday, June 15th at 10 p.m. under the stars of the Celestial Cinema in Wailea. Kay, who will be joined at the premier by cast member Megan Fox, is thrilled to launch his film on Maui since it was a dolphin encounter at La Perouse Bay that first sparked his quest to illuminate the power and elegance of one of the world’s most intelligent creatures. “I was driving down a highway in Maui. I picked up a hitchhiker named Rafael and his three- year-old daughter. I asked what he did for a living, and he said he takes people out kayaking with wild dolphins. Upon his invitation, I joined them and went out to sea off the coast of Maui. There were hundreds of dolphins frolicking and playing in the sea and appeared to be trying to communicate with the humans that interacted with them. It was a fantastic experience. I felt their sonar permeate every part of my mind and body. The spirits of the dolphins touched my soul. It was at this point that I was inspired to make the film,” states Kay. Na Nai’a: Legend of the Dolphins not only takes the viewer on a journey into the world of the Hawaiian spinner dolphin; it also explores rare and remote dolphin communities of Brazil, Mozambique, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, and Bimini. Megan Fox lends her voice to Na Nai'a: Legend of the Dolphins “My goal with Na Nai’a: Legend of the Dolphins was to get to the heart of what the dolphins are trying to tell us. They have been a part of human culture for centuries and have been illustrated in ancient Aboriginal and Hawaiian culture. I wanted to see and understand what they are trying to communicate with humanity,” states Kay. The film highlights some remarkable dolphin encounters, including one of a severely autistic child who spoke for the first time in years after swimming with a group of dolphins. It also explores their survival as a species and what may be a threat to their existence. After the Hawaii launch, Kay is looking for investors to help him take the film worldwide. He is hosting an event on Maui for anyone interested in financially supporting this project. For more details, contact him at jk@dolphinmovie.com or 808-756- 5540. To attend the world premier of Na Nai’a: Legend of the Dolphins, contact the Maui Film Festival Box Office at 808-579-9244. Tickets, which include all films screening that night, are $22. Kids 12 and under are free on Wednesday. For more information go to www.mauifilmfestival.com.
