Ewww, Port Huron... (Sarnia) I didn't know a train station was there... Actually that makes more sense. If we leave out of Windsor that is an hour longer train ride. Sarnia makes more sense. That gives me a good excuse to bring home a case or two of Canadian Beer. Don't call me Unamerican but Canadian beer is so much better!!!! I'm sure Canadia will agree. You both can leave your cars at my house. We'll car pool to Canada. You need to try German beer, supposedly the best! That's what I've heard but I don't know because I'm very Ungerman in the matter that I hate beer

I did a bit of research on the trains and I'm not sure that the train is still running from Sarnia to Toronto, I had a hard time finding something on that. There definitely are several trains a day from Windsor to Toronto. But it's something to investigate a bit more once we get closer.

There definitely are several trains a day from Windsor to Toronto. But it's something to investigate a bit more once we get closer. The train no longer is Amtrak out of Port Huron but Via Rail out of Sarnia. So we would have to cross the Blue Water Bridge to clear customs before boarding the train. Via Rail train Departs every day at 6:40am to Toronto arrives 11:40am also a later train that departs Sarnia at 7:05pm arrives Toronto at 11:25pm. The cost might be a little steep though with the $$$ exchange. Right now it's listed as $117.98 RT. More food for thought

Hm, you have more options with the train from Windsor, it's going 4 times a day with more convenient times than the Sarnia train. I have a 4 hour+ drive to Detroit so I couldn't take a 6.40 am train since I don't want to drive at night nor pay for a hotel in Detroit. www.viarail.ca/en/trains/ontario-and-quebec/toronto-windsor/schedulesBut it's just as expensive... maybe even more so Maybe they have specials and group rates....

I agree Windsor does sound like the better option, especially if the cost is close to the same as Sarnia -> Toronto. I also have a 3+ hour drive I'm on the west coast (of Michigan)

Can't believe how expensive the train is. Amtrak is much cheaper (but probably much slower as well....) We probably travel much cheaper if we drive but it may be more stressful. Maybe once we get closer we can see if we can get any discounts, specials for the train. We still have a long time... I don't even know yet if I will be able to go at all.

That's pretty expensive, Dawne, have you looked into trains? The Canadian trains are pretty expensive but I know that Amtrak is very affordable (but slow). I'm not sure if there is a train going to Toronto from the east coast though, but would be worth looking into.

I would love to go to TIFF, do you know how expensive the hotel is and the tickets for the festival. Can I get an estimate of how much I should save up money wise? I want to make this birthday memorable, how do I get details, and how long is the festival and how long is everyone staying? Can we dress nice, or were just going to be outside waiting?? I know questions but I want a trip of a lifetime!!!
