www.people.com/people/article/0,,20763142,00.html Gerard Butler: Paul Walker's Death 'Just Broke My Heart'Like so many others who knew Paul Walker personally, Gerard Butler is mourning the untimely loss of the actor. The two costarred together in 2003's Timeline, and Butler says that news of this weekend's fatal car crash "just broke my heart." He calls Walker "one of the nicest people I've met." Butler was in Miami during Art Basel for a private dinner celebrating luxury watchmaker Roger Dubuis in partnership with Dom Perignon on Wednesday. And he not only discussed his upcoming London is Rising role as secret service agent Mike Banning, but as a real-life hero in an incident that took place 20 years ago. "This kid I saved when he was 13, basically he was drowning," said Butler, 44. Now grown up, this same fellow "just got married in England, and he wrote me the most beautiful email, so I recorded a message for his wedding basically saying I feel like I've been here for all the most important times in your life." Speaking earlier this year to Scotland's Daily Record, Butler recalled of the incident: "I was with my mother and we suddenly heard this screaming. ... I looked around and nobody else had paid any attention, so I thought, 'Am I imagining this?' "So ... I look into the water and this kid is just disappearing, moving down the river. I went in and I pulled him out, and there was a scary moment because I've never had to save anyone's life before. I didn't really know what I was doing. But we got him out and he wrote me a letter afterwards." Said Butler, "It was a really beautiful note just saying thank you for taking the time." didn't know that. the boy gerry rescued from drowning has kept in touch with him? that is awesome and sweet. it is special. gerry mentions 'i've been here for all the most important times in your life'. oh wow. you could say then gerry is a father, after all. you see, regardless of whether or not a person 'sires' an offspring, we have this inborn, a quality given to filling a void, whether in ourself or for another, better yet...completing a cycle is the best way to respond to life. once we cross that threshold of 'saving' anothers life...we become... changed. reality speaks, we listen, we become.... free....freed from fear, apathy, the unknown, the self......we become... bottom line, secondary, straight forward, focused, matter of fact....we are connected..... xxoo gerry

Yes I would love to have been there! Gerry and the other guys are sweating up a storm! I think he needs a fresh set of clothes or perhaps a wetsuit!
It does say 4th of July so I wonder which year. 2009 in NY? Perhaps 4th of July is a joke and it's more recent?
Nice to see he's out there running around with the younger guys! I think we may need to be present next time in case he needs some oxygen or a leg rub or something!

I adore him in that show. I have it but don't watch it often enough. I agree he was at the peak of his beautydom in that one. I love how he looks in some other movies but Attila....he's unreal in it.

So Matthew McConaughey won an Oscar How is that possible RomCom guy.... I don't want to be a 'party pooper' but since this is a Gerry Butler fan-site I will.... ( sorry..any MM fans on this site) Happy for MM .....But....... I know that Gerry was not nominated for anything but in general - Gerry is a million times more talented and has done much more diverse work- yes Gerry has done some RomComs- but overall compared to MM- his work has much more depth. Really MM winning an Oscar gives me hope that anything is possible in life. ..and yes , I get that MM has made some smarter choices over the past few years but still... ..and he has worked on his brand over the last few years- PR PR PR...Congrat's MM One day Gerry will be up on that stage accepting an award. ( & no I have not seem the movie MM won an Oscar for... ) #AnyThingIsPossibleInHollywood ( P.S. I go through this every year when the Best Actor is annouced- I always think it should be Gerry who wins )

Yeah , i still can't belive that either Coriolanus or the Machine Gun Preacher did't even get a nominie before in the past. Arrrgh. But i take comfort that not even great actors like Liam Neeson and Johnny Deep , Robert Downy Jr. , Edward Norton , Will Smith and now Leonardo Dicaprio has't won. I guess Gerry is in god company.

He just refused to play their game. Maybe one day soon he'll catch a break and get an awesome part. He was awesome in Machine Gun Preacher but it's all politics in Hollywood and a movie where a white guy goes to Africa and saves the day is not going to win and award no matter how well the acting is done. It rubs against the grain for to many people.

Agree, Dianne. I kinda love that Gerry refuses to play the game Although, I think sometimes in life , we all have to play the game at work- which is annoying.....BUT..... What I find confusing, Is that sometimes it seems that Gerry does play the game ........HE SEEMS VERY GOOD AT IT AS WELL ..BUT ..maybe with somethings..its no deal and no game #Interesting #HollywoodPolitics #LifeISAGame
