This came out of the blue and the production starts this fall...very busy year for Gerry www.hollywoodreporter.com/heat-vision/gerard-butler-star-dean-devlins-690770Gerard Butler to Star in Dean Devlin's 'Geostorm' (Exclusive) Warner Bros. just picked up the Skydance-produced project from Paramount Gerard Butler is attached to star in Geostorm, a sci-fi adventure feature written and to be directed by Dean Devlin. Warner Bros. has picked up the project out of turnaround from Paramount, where it was being produced by David Ellison’s Skydance Productions. Skydance remains involved and is producing with Devlin’s Electric Entertainment. The story sees Butler playing a stubborn but charming satellite designer who, when the world’s climate-controlling satellites malfunction, has to work together with his estranged brother to save the world from a man-made storm of epic proportions. A trip into space follows, while on Earth a plot to assassinate the president begins to unfold. The material is in Devlin's wheelhouse. He co-wrote such destruction-laden pics as Independence Day and Godzilla. Geostorm would be Devlin's feature debut. Devlin previously helmed episodes of TV's Leverage. Ellison is producing with Skydance’s Dana Goldberg along with Electric’s Marc Roskin along with Rachel Olschan. Jon Berg is overseeing for the studio. Butler is shooting Gods of Egypt for Summit and is due to star in Alcon’s remake of Point Break, which will film this spring and summer. Geostorm would begin production this fall.
He is repped by CAA and Alan Siegel Entertainment

www.tracking-board.com/tb-exclusive-gerard-butler-lands-lead-in-million-dollar-spec-script-geostorm/Gerard Butler has been tapped to star in one of 2013′s biggest spec sales GEOSTORM from writers Dean Devlin and Paul Guyot. The project, which capped off the first 7-figure sale of last year, was picked up by David Ellison’s Skydance Productions, to be produced alongside Devlin’s own Electric Entertainment. Originally set up at Paramount, the project has moved to Warner Bros. with the addition of Butler. The story centers on a man-made superstorm that is circling the globe, destroying everything in it’s wake, and a satellite designer, and his engineer brother, who are tasked with stopping the storm and saving the world in the process. Butler is set to play the satellite designer, while offers are now out for the role of his brother. Butler, who just last week picked up rights to the Jim Thompson novel “Pop. 1280″, has been busy thus far in 2014, with plans to star in the upcoming “Point Break” remake and, should it ever find it’s way out of development hell, the planned adaptation of the video game series “Kane & Lynch”. Devlin, who once upon a time served in a 2nd unit role on his “Independence Day”, would be making his feature debut with Geostorm, one of the two features he attached himself to in 2013. Previously he’d directed over a dozen episodes of his television series “Leverage” for TNT. Ellison will produce the film alongside Dana Goldberg, Marc Roskin, Rachel Olschan and Devlin himself. Matthew Milam will oversee for Skydance, while Jon Berg will oversee for Warners. Wonder who will play his brother?

I'm just wondering where this news puts OHF? It was supposed to start filming this fall. Honestly, I don't always believe all this hype. Remember when Gerry was going to make The Bricklayer? We all ran out to buy the book and then nothing. Look at MC and other movies that have been on his plate in the past. How many of them have actually come to fruition? When he actually starts filming it then I will believe it...I really don't get excited about new roles for Gerry anymore.

I remember Gerry was asked in an interview where he would like to go next with his movies - his answer was that he had done the past, and the present, so something in the future would be good. Hope this works out for him ... after a difficult few years he deserves an easier run for a while. I really enjoyed reading The Bricklayer - it was my kind of book, so I hope it makes it onto the screen in some form in the future. That's one of the great things about following Gerry's career - I get to learn about new places and situations, meet new friends and the view ain't bad either!

And don't forget reading the books that the movies are based on. I remember reading the play Therese Raquin and I hated it! He would have played a sick wife beater in that one. I'm so happy he didn't! I have learned so much about geography just following Gerry to all corners of the world!

Paramount announced Friday afternoon that the fourth “Beverly Hills Cop” would open on March 25, 2016. Within a few minutes, Warner Bros. said that 3D sci-fier “Geostorm,” starring Butler, would go on the same date. In “Cop,” Murphy will return to play his popular Axel Foley character. This time, he leaves his gig as a Beverly Hills detective for the mean streets of Detroit during the coldest winter on record. Jerry Bruckheimer, who moved his first-look deal from Disney to Paramount last year, is producing, with Brett Ratner directing from a script by Josh Appelbaum and Andre Nemec. Lorenzo di Bonaventura exec produces. The original “Beverly Hills Cop” was a smash success in 1984 with $300 million in worldwide grosses. The second film opened in 1987 and the third came in 1994 with the three films grossing a total of $735 million worldwide. Warner Bros. tapped Butler three weeks ago to star in “Geostorm,” the feature directorial debut of Dean Devlin, who teamed with Roland Emmerich to produce 1996′s “Independence Day.” Devlin’s Electric Entertainment is producing “Geostorm” with Skydance Productions. Producers are Devlin, Skydance’s David Ellison and Dana Goldberg and Electric Entertainment’s Marc Roskin and Rachel Olschan. This is interesting, since Geostrom was announced for the director Dean Deviln two new HIGHER profile films have been announced with his name being attached as producer - First Independence Day 2 and now the Stargate reboot to be a Triology. What is even more interesting Independence Day 2 is to have a July 4, 2016 release that is right after March 26th release date for his own film - Geostorm. When is this guy going to find time to do all of these projects. LOL Info on the reboot for Stargate- www.deadline.com/2014/05/mgm-warner-bros-reboot-stargate/shellie P.S. I find it kinda ironic that I just posted the trailer for the original 1994 Stargate movie to illustrate the special effects they could use for GOE just the day before this announcement LOL

Thanks for all your news Shellie--very much appreciated. This one's rather disconcerting, isn't it. At lease there wasn't time to become really invested in it so if Geostorm doesn't happen it won't have the impact that the loss of Motor City did. That was a killer and I'll probably not get over it.

Production Start Date for Geostorm update-
If this is correct it looks like LHF needs to start filming ASAP if they want to finish it by October and since they still have not announced a director I am wondering about the viability of LHF at this point.
There is a director for Geostorm so I think it may be a safe bet that Geostorm could see a start date before LHF.
Good news that this project is moving ahead I think this could be a lots of fun.
