I am going to miss this topic now that Gerry has departed Australia. I want to say a big to all of our wonderful members and moderators from Australia and everywhere else in the world that did such a wonderful job keeping us up-dated on all of the news and photos of Gerry. Wonder where Gerry will take us next, I enjoyed learning about Sydney, hoping to make it there one day.

Ooops ... I did wonder when I saw that video if there would be any repercussions ... Australia loves larrikins but we also have high standards in aviation safety. Thanks for the link SD www.ntnews.com.au/entertainment/hollywood-actor-gerard-butler-could-be-at-the-centre-of-an-investigation-over-his-video-of-helicopter-flying-techniques-in-the-northern-territory/story-fnk0b1gl-1227001851711HOLLYWOOD actor Gerard Butler could be at the centre of an Australian aviation investigation after his video of helicopter flying techniques in the Northern Territory was aired on US TV. Butler was on a two-day tour in the Top End while filming his next movie in Australia. But he was also filming things which grabbed the attention of authorities. While fishing on a sandbar - an unidentified black Robinson helicopter can be seen flying toward Butler and others, then aiming its rotor toward the men unnecessarily - spinning above their heads for several seconds before landing meters away. And he showed the footage in an interview on Jimmy Kimmel Live, now online. “This stuff is evidence he’s insane,” Butler told the show. “This is how we were flying about.” Kimmel said: “This is not a guy you should be hanging around with in general”. And Butler has it all on tape. “I spent a lot of time (filming) on my phone,” he said. “We didn’t even upload the best bit of this where we were spinning around at 70 miles per hour and him in the chopper right above us.” The trip also included a fan boat ride with “Big Macca”. The Civil Aviation Safety Authority has been examining the interview - which can be seen on YouTube. Spokesman Peter Gibson said: “CASA is reviewing the video of the helicopter flying near the fishing party shown on the YouTube clip.” “CASA always takes any information or evidence about potential unsafe flying seriously and takes the appropriate actions.” The star of 300, How to Train Your Dragon, and Olympus has Fallen stressed an investigation had not been started, and no breaches had been officially identified. Butler praised Big Macca for cleaning his wounds when he cut his leg on coral. Kimmel asked with whom he went on this trip around the Territory. “This guy is quite a famous adventurer in Australia,” he said. “I don’t want to say his name. Because it was ... There was a lot of stuff I couldn’t put on this video. This is the tame stuff.”

I am still shocked that this story would garner so much attention. Is there a problem inn Australia with helicopter pilots? When on Jimmy Kimmel, I just thought Gerry did not want to mention the guide name in that interview because he didn't want to be personally endorsing and providing a marketing tool for the tour agency. Never thought it was because this guy was being reckless. I am probably wrong, but I think maybe this guy went a little far pushing the limits to see how Spartan King Gerry would react. Gerry loves adventure and I think he would be game for just about anything. Hope this blows over fast

Shellie,
Air safety is of paramount importance. This whole matter is about flying safely without any risk to others. The Australian authorities are quite rightly focused on that and have to ensure that those who are licensed to fly do so in a proper manner. This particular enquiry may take a little time to be resolved.
The mention of rotor blades spinning not far above the heads of those on the ground reminded me of the terrible accident that befell the actor Vic Morrow on a movie set. Vic was killed in a freak accident involving a helicopter, along with others who were working on the film. The unexpected can always happen, even though someone might think that they are in complete control.

I think that Gerry does a lot of crazy things because it is a form of excitement for him but he just doesn't think about what could happen. This goes back to him jumping around on tall buildings and swinging around on ships. I pray this never happens but I worry that one day his luck will run out. Please be careful there are a lot of people who care about you. If I was your mother I'ld live with one breath held when that phone would ring.
