I'm just wondering though if Gerry is the evil god Set...will he be killed off in this one? Then he wouldn't be around for a franchise. Gerry was always getting killed or died in his early movies.

According to Egyptian History, Set has an interesting history from being a good God to be turned into an evil God. And it seems he is defeated in battle, but not really killed and one account reports that Ra banishes him to the sky and his anger is heard in the thunder in the sky. Here is a link - I must say it will be interesting how the story is told and Gerry's character development. I am hoping he gets to have "good" moments. Also I hope he may have some loving moments with the women in his story. ancientegyptonline.co.uk/set.html

Thanks for sharing that info shellie! Very interesting, even though I love ancient Egypt the interaction of the gods is very confusing. I'm glad he doesn't get killed off and it seems as if there would be lots of rich material for the franchise.

Did you look at the guy's FB? He is in photos with Ashton Kutchner and Paul Walker. Hugh Jackman thanked him while promoting Real Steel. I wonder if Gerry learned those moves for OHF from him.
Connection to Aussie? That sounds intriguing. We should keep an eye on this guy's FB page.

This has probably been mentioned before but it has just sunk in ... this film has a budget of $150m ... that's big! CGI must be expensive

Blockbuster Gods of Egypt to shoot in Sydney - "Filming will take place at Sydney's Fox Studios and is expected to take five months." #gerardbutler australiansinfilm.org/latest_news?mode=PostView&bmi=1505203Blockbuster Gods of Egypt to shoot in Sydney 02/24/2014 5:57 PM New South Wales has beaten Victoria to secure Australian writer/ director Alex Proyas' $150 million fantasy adventure Gods of Egypt. The film stars Australians Geoffrey Rush, Brenton Thwaites and Courtney Eaton alongside Gerard Butler and Game of Thrones' Nikolaj Coster-Waldau. Set in mythical ancient Egypt, Gods of Egypt follows the story of a young thief (Thwaites) and his mission to bring his true love, Zaya (Eaton), back from the dead. Rush and Butler will play the mythical gods Ra and Set. According to NSW deputy premiere Andrew Stoner, Gods of Egypt will create around 400 jobs in the film sector, and will contribute around $75 million in direct production expenditure to the NSW economy. “The NSW Government has worked hard to put the state on the international film production map over the past three years. These productions have spent hundreds of millions of dollars in NSW, including substantial amounts in regional areas, creating hundreds of jobs,” Stoner said. Filming will take place at Sydney's Fox Studios and is expected to take five months. Proyas, one of Australia's internationally acclaimed filmmakers, is known for I Robot, The Crow and Dark City. The director, writer, producer called the film, "substantially an Australian production". Gods of Egypt has received the Australian federal government's 40 per cent tax rebate to counter the strong local dollar. Newcomer Courtney Eaton also stars in George Miller's Mad Max reboot Fury Road - in cinemas May 2015. Gods of Egypt will be in theatres in 2016.

www.news.com.au/entertainment/movies/gerard-butler-embraces-role-of-villain-in-150-million-action-fantasy-gods-of-egypt/story-fnk850z8-1226842112541#Gerard Butler embraces role of villain in $150 million action fantasy Gods of Egypt This story was published: 1 hour ago March 01, 2014 1:36PM GERARD Butler is so keen to start work on big-budget action fantasy Gods of Egypt, he will front up at Fox Studios on Monday — almost a month before filming begins. “We’re putting major prep into this,’’ the Scottish actor revealed in Los Angeles today during an interview to promote the animated sequel How To Train Your Dragon 2. Butler, 44, was to board a flight to Sydney immediately after the promotional tour had wrapped. “I am going to be down there three and a half weeks before we start just so I can be in among it for all the training and the dialect sessions and the rehearsals.” Best known for his role as Spartan King Leonidas in 300, Zack Snyder’s graphic re-enactment of the ancient battle of Thermopylae, Butler described the project as “massive.” “It’s the largest budget movie I have ever worked on. It’s huge in every dimension. It’s huge in its scope. And it’s story. And visually. (I, Robot’s) Alex Proyas is the man. Everything about the movie feels bang on.” Having played both Vikings and Spartans, Butler is clearly no stranger to mythical characters. But Set, the God of Chaos, is perhaps his first real villain. “Leonidas was also a dark character but it was ultimately for a higher good. With Set, it’s kinda the opposite,’’ the actor laughed. “It’s a delicious role to get your teeth into.” Deputy NSW Premier Andrew Stoner announced earlier this month that NSW had landed the $150 million blockbuster, also starring Geoffrey Rush and Game of Thrones’ Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, ahead of Victoria after fierce bidding war. Proyas has previously shot movies in both states — Dark City and Garage Days in Sydney and Knowing in Melbourne. The director’s big-budget adaptation of John Milton’s epic poem Paradise Lose, with Bradley Cooper in the role of Lucifer, was also planned for Sydney — until it was shut down in pre-production over budgetary concerns. For Butler, 2014 is shaping up to be a bumper year. After wrapping on Gods of Egypt, he begins work on a hotly-anticipated remake of Point Break with Australia’s Luke Bracey in the Keanu Reeves role. The production is scheduled to travel to Tahiti, Venezuela, Mexico, Italy, Switzerland, France and Germany during the course of an ambitious six-month shoot.
