About the film «OLYMPUS HAS FALLEN»
1. What scenes were the most and least realistic in the film OHF?
Ricky Reply: In my opinion, the most realistic in this film is the character of Gerard Butler. He played well this character, showing him in courage and heart qualities of each agent of the Secret Service, and his acting ability, he praised our department.
2. Have you consulted with the real experts the U.S. Secret Service for what protections are in fact exist?
Ricky Reply: No, I know that already exists. In Mr. Fuqua ( approx. ed. - film director Antoine Fuqua OHF ) was a Secret Service agent, and I think Jerry has also worked with him. He worked with those guys who are still serving.
3. Have you changed the film in order to ensure real security?
Jerry Reply: Ricky was with us on the set every second of every day, advised and supported. We used the bulk of his ideas to make the trip Banning the White House more interesting, exciting. He tossed the idea of psychological counter-terrorism, the game of cat and mouse with the wicked, that's what we always want to script. He helped us to enter into the film different technical tools, strategy and tactics of the Secret Service - to provide for themselves as weapons, how to figure out what are the enemy's capabilities and goals, how to establish communications with the crisis staff and begin to neutralize the threat.
But what Ricky said before, got me thinking - when he started talking about the fact that I gave Banning heart, because that's what I first took over from Ricky himself. Because you can explore all the information and expert data. But at the end of the day, when you start talking to someone who has experienced it myself, who met with a real threat, and even the wounded enemy, and you see in their eyes and in their hearts something when they talk about the performance of their duty ... This is what I gave the character Banning, this incredible bravery and devotion and that protection of the President and the people of this country, these ideas in their blood. The way they talk about the enemy - those who can hurt them, the innocent people that gleam in their eyes, the danger in their eyes. For me, this is the whole point of the film.
Because when that happens, such an attack, it is such a terrible and shocking that we need - the audience needs it - that was satisfying and the price paid for the statement. And, of course, as far as I can afford to say this, in situations where this happens, we feel relieved when the villains kicking ass. Because it is a real confrontation between good and evil.
4. Have the writers to come up with something for the Protection of the President of the United States?
Jerry Reply: We can talk about everything. This White House is the place where the President lives, so we can not talk about, on what is classified as secret, that the "top secret", or may endanger the White House.
Ricky Reply: Rothenberg and Benedict ( approx. ed. - it is obviously a screenwriter Creighton Rothenberger and Catherine Benedict ) - they are historians, they have done a lot of research when writing the script. They studied a lot of material available the Secret Service. There have been a particular photo. But then they swore on the Constitution, and in the scenario all wrong.
Reply Jerry: But there were specific things that people do, for example, how they look, how they move - all this can be prescribed in the script. Ricky showed me how I should go out because of the angle I had to deal with my people, what I should have a behavior which pose and posture, even camaraderie - all of this does not have to be in the script - but this can be ask, ask questions about some of the intricacies that hung meat on the skeleton of the script. And this audience needs to associate with Ricky, understand that it is to his credit. It is very important to have such an expert on the court. So he said what are you doing, going to work. We must have the support to play a Secret Service agent and still be convincing in the role, because it is a big responsibility.
5. Have there ever event that inspired the filmmakers or intelligence for the development of such tactics?
Ricky Reply: No, it's completely made-up story. Once upon a time with some things that we have recreated the scenes attack the White House, I had a case, but in other countries.
Reply Jerry brilliant simplicity plan in this picture. September 11, 2001, they used knives, stationery and changed the world.
The addition of Ricky: They used our own aircraft as missiles.
6. Hi, Gerard! Olympus Has Fallen was fantastic! You met with my son and took pictures with him. Thank you very much for coming to a military base! Dreams come true a little boy, he met the Phantom! Found your more or less a good photo that my little Jacob is, of course, printed and put in a frame.
Reply Jerry: I remember him well! He's so cute. And it was so nice to see his broad smile when I picked it up, he was very happy, it was a beautiful moment.
Everyone who came, including Ricky had a great day on the base. It is an honor for me that I was accepted as his own. Our entire team has arrived - the director, the actors, the promoters of the picture - were all those who participated in making the film. And all of it was interesting to see those who are on a knife edge, those who stand on the front line of those who allow us to work by lawyers, whether we like it or not, every day just to pick up our children from school and drinking coffee.
For me it was an emotional ordeal when I greeted the two wounded soldiers. It should be noted that I was nervous, because the film shows the attack, which the Marines could face, but I overcame my fears and decided that if something goes wrong, I will try near the end of the show to escape and avoid parsing flights.
And I could not believe they were so took a picture and fell in love with her, they clapped, cheered, and laughed at all the jokes. In the film, by the way, a lot of laughs (as far as possible in such a scenario).
And they took it exactly as we had hoped. I stayed until the end and then another shot on my camera phone. I then also for journalists lost with my little camera on the phone. I'm so glad I stayed because it was a memorable experience to see that our real heroes are taking our movie.
7. Tell us about your experience at the site of the movie with Morgan Freeman.
Jerry Reply: My Experience? The day when Morgan took this role was a great day for all of us. On a day when he appeared on the set, it was as if electrified, everyone was so excited that God himself was with us. He was so charming and easy to communicate, never asked for anything, always happy and courteous to people. And then just "plug" your character and gave the people of this fantastic, humane, strong and with a vulnerable person. I think people will like it.
8. Question for Ricky, who received the response from the guys from the Secret Service: 12 years have passed since the terrorist attack September 11, 2001, before he was caught bin Laden. The film reflects the willingness to fight back immediately. And it evokes patriotic feelings of the people ...
Reply Jerry: I want to talk about it, because it's really important. I will repeat what I said to Ricky, 11 September, all those who participated in the attack, died in an instant. And all the people in the free world feel that they must do something, but can not do anything. In this film, because the terrorists are still working, and the situation of confrontation continues, there is a hostage in the White House - there is something else that we can do.
And the attack is shown in the film, such shocking, arrogant and rude, and the real, and so inevitable - which it could show only Antoine Fuqua - she makes you feel the need for revenge. As in "Macbeth" by Shakespeare (quoted remark from a work whose meaning is ripping belly enemy from the navel to the lower jaw).
And here is where the stage is the Secret Service. And what is the result? The result of such an exciting and terrifying, but at the same time emotional and patriotic. I believe that we are big lucky that we managed to cram so much into this film. He likes both men and women, because it affects the values that are so deep in us, because both men and women for the White House, the President's life, global security, good men and women who work in the Service, are of the same value. Suddenly, this movie has moved beyond the action-thriller and became something more, something deeper.
9. Question for Ricky: Not much talk about the cases of terrorist attacks that have been stopped or prevented in time. How much do something like that happened, what did not tell us anything? Or, in the last 12 years simply no attempt has not been done?
Ricky Reply: There have been several attempts to attack U.S. institutions in a foreign land. Within the U.S. intelligence services were also prevented several operations militants. For obvious reasons, you do not know about them, first of all, it will be unnecessary for the glory of the bad guys, and secondly, people will be more difficult to sleep at night. As you know, the less you know - sleep tight. But that does not mean that nothing is happening, there are people who 24 hours a day, 7 days a week taking care of our safety.
Adding to Jerry: That's what I got from Ricky when we were talking, the kind of work being done by security forces, but about which we know nothing. While working on this film - it was one of the most interesting things. In the picture, we focused on the day when everything went wrong that could be regarded as a failure. But every day, when all is well, you should remember that this is thanks to the men and women who do so, so that nothing is happening. All of their investigation, exploration, inquiry, warning of danger - thousands of people have to deal with it every day. Intelligence agencies are doing everything so that nothing is happening.
10. Gerard, what attracted you to the film OHF? By the way, welcome to the social media.
Jerry Reply: Thank you, I get even more fun than I expected.
When I read the initial part of the script, I was fascinated by this character - those who have lost everything, lost the ability to do the only favorite thing, do your duty, doing what he learned to do all my life. Then when I got to the scene of attack, I felt it as a bold and courageous. If we get through this, we can make this a reality - it will be a most memorable experience because it will affect the soul.
In addition, we get a terrific opportunity to find out what's going on here and there in a terrorist attack - from the crisis center to the bunker. I thought it would be so exciting, it will be a potentially great drama, suspense is, the audience will sit on the edge of a chair.
Part 2. Questions on other topics.
1. Which is your favorite movie? Do you have any actors, looking at where you get your inspiration in the movie?
My favorite movie (although it is very hard to choose) is also a favorite film by Antoine Fuqua's "Apocalypse Now" - the mythical hero who travels on the river in the dark recesses of your mind.
I'm inspired by a lot of actors for different reasons - my favorite actors would be those in which I grew up - from Richard Burton, Paul Newman and Steve McQueen. But then, how can you not be brought up on movies De Niro and Pacino, or Philip Seymour Hoffman and Daniel Day-Lewis - or even Steve Carell? Because they all have their own form of magic.
2. What was your favorite scene / line in the filming of "300"?
My favorite scene was the scene of a dying me when I had to get up and suddenly remember that moment his wife and everything that I was, and I say: "My queen, my wife, my love." And I think this is the most powerful moment of all my films that I've ever had. Preparations for each episode, I was screaming on the ground, clenched his fists, and scratching the ground and cut off all my joints and scraped her nails ... I wanted to scream, and they were filming.
And it was so visceral, so powerful, and the next day (it was my last day of shooting), the next day I left Montreal, and I passed through the checkpoint in the United States and the officer asked, "What happened to your hands", and I said, "I'm just scratching the earth," and she took me to a secondary examination, and I missed my flight and had to stay another day. So the next day I was wearing gloves.
3. How often do people scream the words of "300" at the sight of you?
Probably once a day. I actually do not mind that - I do not like it when I'm in a place with lots of people around, such as the airport - then they cry, and you're stuck there, and somewhere with a thousand people look at you. But to be honest, I love that people feel so passionately in it. This is for me - the best thing for an actor to play the role that people do not forget, and they will be happy and they want to scream with excitement when they see you.
4. If you have taken in the new "Star Wars", what type of character you like to play?
Well, the originals were one of my favorite movies, and some sort of Harrison Ford played the hero with a better attitude, as much as possible to play. Thus, it would have to be the role of Han Solo-type, because it is a badass, funny guy and in the end he gets the girl a kiss.
5. It seems that you have not been too positive attitude about your career as a lawyer ... What made you change your career?
I've always enjoyed the idea of learning as a lawyer and had a romantic notion of what it would be like to practice as a lawyer - but when reality hits you, and suddenly you're in the office, and trying to act as a lawyer - I realized that it was not what I wanted to do with my life. I did not want to see myself retiring and never who found enough courage to follow his dream.
6. When you are not working, what do you do to relax?
Sometimes I find it hard to relax, so I have to force myself to go to other places, and that's why I love to travel. So this year, at the beginning of the year, I knew I had a lot of things came up. So I went to the mountains of Scotland, and in Thailand, and Colombia, and Switzerland, and I skied the Mont Blanc.
I love to take trips that involve participation of the soul, where the people and the things you are involved in contact - for example, camping on top of a glacier in Iceland, creating a tent at 1:00 in the morning, listening to Sigur Ros at the time, as the northern Lights dancing over the head - that beats anything I could do as an artist. these moments that you take to the grave and beyond.
7. Have you ever thought to do another musical?
I just asked about this before, and it got me thinking. I would like to do another musical at some point, but I do not see that happening in the next year or so. However, when they came out of "300" I vowed that I would not make another epic film "Sword and Sandals", but you never know - you never know! One of the things I like what acting is - you never know what is around the corner.
8. What song do you sing in the shower?
«Lovely Day» Bill Withers.
9. How many of your own stunts are you doing in a film like "300" or Olympus, or Gamer? Were there moments when the studio said, "Wow, no way," when you were willing to jump through a window or something like that?
Yes - I always do my own stunts, if I'm not physically stop the insurance company. This film ("The Fall of Olympus"), I did all my own stunts, but one (and I got a lot of injuries along the way: I got a bullet in the eye shell - I felt a blow in the face, I was hit by flying debris from the explosion, my hand was black from the wrist to the elbow and swollen, I lost the nail, I had a bruise the size of a melon on the back of the thigh, the fights in this movie are very dynamic, violent, I wanted to do. We used a variety of martial arts, and sometimes cruel - constantly improvising ways to eliminate / eliminate terrorists) - I was on the Mavericks, and one week where I almost drowned.
We wanted to avoid a lot of shooting on the outputs of the White House. When you are one against 40 terrorists - even in my fight sequences, I'm trying to deal with well-trained commandos as quiet as possible - which only heightens the excitement.
10. Were the roles from which you refused, and now you regret?
Yes, there were a couple, but I'm not going to say what, because you just ohreneete.
To be continued ...
